jazmine was only planning on being in lima for a couple hours. get to her house, pick up her new gaming keyboard, take her parents out for dinner, and then drive right on back to OSU. jazmine made the mistake of stopping by WMHS on her way out of town. something drew her to the soccer field. next thing she knew she was sitting in the center of the field looking at the stars. shit was easier in high school. she wanted to live in that fantasy for a moment. she turned slightly and spotted someone standing beside her. the shock of it all made her yelp. she immediately jumped to her feet and punched the culprit in the arm. bentley lynn in the flesh. “what the heck! i thought you were a murderer or something! i almost whipped out my pepper spray!” jaz shouted, shoving him once more.
“Oh look who is trying to party party.” He laughed and looked at her with a bright smile on his face and shook his head. “There are a ton in the fridge. Blue berry, raspberry, yellow, strawberry, cherry, and orange. Some other colors.” He motioned for her to follow him towards the kitchen. He laughed as Kent shot her a lame flirty smile and kept walking. “You ain’t trying to make that man some pies, cakes, and a pot roast on Sundays after yall go to a Baptist Church?” He chuckled and looked at her with a teasing glance. Knowing she was probably about to curse him out. “I’m kind of feeling in the mood for some cake too.” He said as he got to the fridge and grabbed some of the jello shots. “Any preference on flavor?” He looked at the guy she was talking about. “He has a sex tape out… or like an only fans or something.” Sammy looked at the guy, but it wasn’t a definite ‘no’. “Plus I heard he cries after.”
-
jaz winked back at sam. it wasn’t a real party until jazmine evans arrived and that was a fendi fact. she walked with him to the kitchen, brimming with excitement about the prospect of getting drunk quickly. She jabbed him in the arm after his joke. “I refuse to ever be a Sunday brunch wife! I deserve a man who can cook for me.” she snapped. the anger was mostly fueled by the fact that jazmine in fact could not cook...at least not well enough to serve someone else. jazmine pointed to the strawberry flavored shots and smiles as they were handed to her by sam. “i think you deserve an emotionally vulnerable guy, samster. crying just means he was really into it, right?” jazmine said with a shrug. her ignorance in regards to sex shining through. “he’s cute! pinchable abs AND pinchable cheeks!”
When classes resumed on Monday after spring break, Dylan was in a very good and chipper mood. She was sun kissed from her time in Florida with Maya, her and LJ were back in the same state, and simply put? Life was good. Dylan had been zoning out in her Introduction to Comparative Religion class eyeing the clock when finally, her professor dismissed everyone from the lecture. With a sigh, she gathered her things and sped out of the room, eager to grab some food and socialize until her next class. College Dylan was a lot like high school Dylan, but there were some glaring differences. The main one being that generally speaking? Dylan no longer surrounded herself with people who made her feel bad. She was still sensitive and tenderhearted, but she spent a lot less time crying and feeling insecure, thanks to friends like Maya and surprisingly, Jaz. The two had gotten closer in their final year of high school and joining the same sorority had only strengthened that. When Dylan made her way into the caf with a wide, toothy grin and eyes searching for a familiar face, she was happy to see her high school friend. “Hey you,” she greeted as she approached Jaz at a booth and slid in across from her, “don’t tell me you’re doing school work.” One glance at Jaz’s text books and notes indicated that she was. “Don’t you ever take breaks? It’s your lunch time,” Dyl pointed to the food at the end of the table, “take a break.”
being in a sorority, a starting player on a college soccer team, and still wanting to have a social life apart from those two things meant that jazmine didn’t really have time for breaks. the once lackadaisical teenager was now a very organized woman. in her eyes she couldn’t be the best at every aspect of her life, but she damn sure would be as adequate as she could. this meant following her planner to a t, and today she only really had time to do her Quantitative Reasoning homework while eating lunch. it was ultimately a positive surprise when dylan appeared and slid into a seat across from her. "Hey!” she said, still punching away at her calculator. “I don’t have time for breaks today,” she said before scribbling an equation out in her notebook. “I’m sure you know how it is. College is super busy. I have another class after lunch and right when I get out I have to book it to the fields for conditioning for the rest of the night.” she said, motioning to her soccer warm-ups she had on. “plus...seeing your sweet face is all the break i need.” jazmine teased with a smile. “what are you up to after lunch?”

Okay, so he was feeling himself that night with his outfit and his hairstyle. Plus he had wrote hell of a bop and recorded it - so he was thriving that day. So needless to say it didn’t take much when Jaz asked if he was going to the party that he said yes. Usually he would have groaned and moaned, because dealing with frat boys was tough already, but drunk frat boys trying to hump you like a chihuahua was a big no no and then the endless flirting was not the vibe. He was talking to a few friends with bright smiles and laughs. He looked over and saw Jaz and walked over towards his friend.
“You missed Cynthia taking jello shots.” He laughed and looked at her with a bright smile on his face. “You enjoying the party so far?” He asked her with a curious glance, handing her a drink he saved for her - he believed in being party buddies because he had trust issues at these frat/sorority parties after hearing stories of people messing with drinks and stuff, so he made sure to watch Jaz and his drinks like a hawk. “Ooh ten oclock. Here comes that cute blond guy that flirted with you last time… Kent…” He recalled.
After a full day of exploring her favorite parts of OSU with her parents, Jazmine was right back to her bullshit. Perusing the party scene and procrastinating on her responsibilities. Jazmine knew there was no better person to ease back into the party scene with than Sam. They were of the same mind when it came to these kind of things. Having fun and also being safe. Once she spotted him she made her way towards the boy. “Are there still jello shots left? That would make this party a lot more fun.” she admitted. She was starting to realize that a lot of these parties started and ended the same way. The whole thing was getting a bit predictable. She tilted her head as Kent walked by. She elbowed Sammy. “Oh my god, heck no. He’s in one of my WGS classes and he totally believes that women belong in the kitchen like he’s from the 1800s or something.” Jaz groaned. She looked around the party. “I’ve kinda come to terms with the fact that I’m not gonna find love at a frat party. I think there still might be some hope for you though.” She teased, looking around for a victim. “What about that guy in the polo crop top? Nice abs, methinks.”
jazmine was sitting in the quad having a picnic with her parents. it felt really good to have them come and visit the campus for once, instead of the other way around. jaz spent way too much time in lima, and typically her parents only came to osu for home games. since it wasn’t soccer season, they had to make a new arrangement to spend time together. as jazmine was obsessed with picnics, this worked as her spring break sendoff before she returned to classes. jaz had been watching some frat guys kick a ball around when she turned to her mom to make a joke, only to find both of her parents passed out on their giant picnic blanket. she groaned. “old people....” she mumbled, before standing up and walking toward the crowd of frat boys. she spotted logan and flagged him down. “loogie! yoohoo!” she shouted in a teasing tone, opening her arms for a hug. “I have to be upfront and say that I did see you eat shit a couple of minutes ago, and I did laugh about it. Like...not a polite laugh either, it was a full wicked witch of the west moment.”
TYPICALLY, ivy gave in to the anger that would bubble into her stomach any time anyone dared come at her, or express aggression. but she didn’t this time. with jaz’s eyes full of tears, and their heated duet feeling like a distant memory, suddenly every unkind word tossed between them was shed and they were just two former friends trying to have a conversation. “i know you didn’t do it for me.” ivy commented in a whisper, with a small understanding nod. “but thanks anyhow.” she remarked, scanning jazmine’s face for any sign that her words had meant something. “and i’m not like, coming here to be a vulture for my spot back. just to say thanks or whatever.” then a hesitant pause, “and to check on you, i know when an angry storm out is like actually a hurt storm out when i see it.”
-
jaz listened to ivy. she was waiting for her to say something selfish or manipulative...something to justify that way that she was feeling. but no dice. this was the most understanding tone she’d heard from ivy in the nearly three years that they had been close. she paused. “yeah i’m hurt but you know what...i am angry. i’m angry that you disappeared. i’m angry that one or two uncomfortable moments in glee club made you abandon us. i’m angry at how much we had to grow without you and i’m angry that you get to just like...pop back up after all that.” she ranted, leaning against the lockers. she was also mad at how happy she was to be on the same team as ivy again. why did she feel like that after everything? “i guess i’m also mad that’s it’s taken us so long to talk like this...” she trailed off.
jaz and bri were like two peas in a pod. they were cousins...but also basically sisters. meaning...all of the weirdo shit that jaz forced on cam, would probably eventually be forced on bri as well. jaz’s current obsession? just dance. she forced her dad to buy her the unlimited subscription so that meant they had access to every just dance routine ever choreographed. meaning jaz was challenging herself to get ‘megastar’ on all the kpop dances in just dance history. the duo had just finished ‘feel special’ by twice, and they were both feeling pretty winded. they plopped beside each other on jaz’s bean bag chair. “are you sure you’re not purposefully losing to me every time? just dance isn’t even that hard, you just gotta shake the controller in the right places.” she teased, sprawled across bri’s lap. “also...please tell me if you want to do something else...i don’t wanna hog your night.” she said, looking over to her cousin. @briannajones
IVY HADN’T EXPECTED her transfer back to be smooth sailing, but she really wished it was. after she said her little piece and watched jaz leave, her feet carried her after the other girl before she could really even think about what she was doing. in a frenzy, she called after her, “hey! jaz! wait!” jaz showed…pretty much no signs of stopping, so ivy hurried her pace to a jog, “listen, hey, can you just like talk to me.” she said, annoyed. she wasn’t great with apologies, or compliments that weren’t backhanded, but jaz seemed to have always had her best interest in mind. she wished she could stay the same for the past, but that was out of the question. now, she was focused on making amends, and being able to say that for the future, “i have something i want to say.” duh. “um,” nervously, she looked up and rubbed her lips together, before meeting jaz’s gaze, “look, i just wanted to say like thanks for looking after the club while i was gone. yknow, making sure there’s something to come back to or whatever.” a pause. “and….” ivy sucked in a breath, hoping that jaz accepted the apology, “i’m like really sorry for everything that went down while i was gone.” @jazziejazxo
jaz didn’t know what was going on with her lately. it felt like ivy’s mere presence was a trigger lately. whether it triggered an angry outburst or a burst of tears...completely dependent on the day. it seemed like today favored the latter. jaz would not be able to hold up in new directions while feeling that way. so when ivy chased after her...she knew she’d eventually have to stop running and face the girl. when she did...the last thing she expected was an apology. here came the angry outburst. “i didn’t do it for you.” she replied. a beat. “i didn’t even really want to be captain so if you want it back you can just say that.” she said, staring watery daggers at ivy. as to the apology, jaz could only muster a small nod.
Dylan was having a pretty good time at Candyland. She was there with a super cute date, she’d performed a fun song with Trace, her friends were all there…it was nice! And Dylan loved Valentine’s day. There was so much to celebrate when it came to love and sure, some of it was corny, but more importantly it was sweet and good. She didn’t want to miss even a second of the party out on the dance floor, but eventually she had to hit the rest room to freshen up. Just as she came out of the stall, she came face to face with Jaz. “Hey lady,” Dyl greeted sweetly, approaching the sink next to Jaz to wash her hands. The question made her laugh as they locked eyes in the mirror, “there’s no tea per se…but I am having fun! Your brother is a good date!” Was that weird to say? Maybe…but Dylan figured it would be weirder if she didn’t address it. “Are you having fun? I loved your song with Lemon, you guys were so good!” It was then that Dylan noticed Jaz’s make-up bad. “Need help touching up?” she offered, familiar with doing this type of thing for girls at every social outing.
“i love that for you two.” jaz gave a content nod. she loved cam and in a way she loved dylan too, it was nice to see things going well between them in her eyes. jaz tried not to go red when dylan complimented her performance with lemon. jaz had spent a lot of her adolescence looking up to lemon, so even something as simple as singing a duet with her was pretty meaningful to her. she raised her eyebrows. “are you like...a professional? i had to watch a youtube tutorial to even pull off this basic look so....any help would be greatly appreciated.” she said with eyes wide.
When you were the child of Santana and Brittany Lopez-Pierce, there were quite a few families that you were allowed to associate with. One of those families happened to be the Evans family. Growing up, Jett didn’t quite understand all of the idiosyncrasies when it came to the ex-glee club members, he just wanted to make friends and play with kids his own age. It wasn’t until Santana recounted the stories of slushies, mockings, and bullying that he realized there was much more to understand than just petty disagreements. It was when he was 13 that he was told about Trouty Mouth. From that point on, Jett couldn’t quite handle looking at Mr. Evans, or Sam, any further without thinking of the song Santana had created. All of that second-hand embarrassment hadn’t stopped Jett from becoming close friends with the Evans kids. It was pretty much determined from birth that they would be friends. Shooting a text to Jaz on Saturday morning, Jett was hoping he could meet her for brunch to catch up. College was fast approaching and Jett wanted to be sure that his friendships were totally intact before he up and left. Of course, some relationships were easier than others, Jett had no doubts that he would remain close with Jaz. Getting a table at the local diner, Jett ordered a black coffee and waited for her to arrive.
jett and lemon pretty much felt like an extension of jaz’s family. as did the puckermans. there was something special about knowing people since birth and jaz definitely tried not to take those connections for granted. so when jett invited her out to eat, the answer was a resounding yes. she stepped into the diner with a huge smile and slid into a seat across from Jett. “Jett! You are never going to believe what I just saw outside.” she said with a huge grin still stapled across her face. She pulled out her phone to show Jett a photo of a big fluffy Samoyed being walked by its owner. “anyways, my day is already a 10/10 just from that. How have you been, king?”
jaz walked into the bathroom with a huge smile on her face. she had just owned the dancefloor with some random sophomore boy who...somehow snuck in without a date. after a very dry year in terms of dating, little cute moments like that gave jaz a bit of hope. she stared into the mirror to adjust her makeup. she wasn’t the best at doing her own makeup, but her limited makeup bag out of her purse either way. just as she was about to begin, dylan popped out of a stall. “hey hun!” jaz chimed, moving her hair out of her face. “are you having an eventful night? what’s the tea?”
“If you get enough alcohol in me tonight, I promise to perform whatever songs you want,” Benji said with a smile, knowing that he was going to regret ever giving Jaz that kind of power. He had gotten more and more confident in performing, especially in such a lowkey setting, ever since he had been in Grease, but it still wasn’t something he was dying to do by any means. “Smuggle me? If you think I have any capability of dancing like that?” He couldn’t help but laugh before he was bringing Jaz into another embrace. She truly was one of the most important people in his life. Sure, it might have been a friendship that could look a little strange to outsiders, especially considering they had dated once before, but Benji didn’t care. Jaz was one of his best friends. “No but seriously, you’re going to the party tonight, right?” As soon as he was speaking about parties, he couldn’t stop his lips from speaking once more, “and Candyland! Are you going to that?” Benji wasn’t the best texter so most of the time, he was bombarding his friends with 20 questions whenever he saw them in the flesh.
jaz rubbed her hands together as Benji suggested karaoke if he was drunk enough. getting people drunk covertly was a specialty of jazmine’s. it usually included taunting the hell out of them in drinking games and inevitably winning. “there have been plenty of winning show choir teams with a performer or two a little behind on choreography. you just have to make it charming.” she teased while hugging benji back. “Yes to the party tonight! Getting dinner with the fam and then I’ll be there. And yes to Candyland too! Sage and I are making it a Galentine’s thing!” she said excitedly. “are you getting Ruby anything cute???” she asked, lowering her voice to a very nosy whisper.
who: @dumbofassjoey + jaz evans (brief mentions of cam, julien, and lemon + the rest of the new directions)
where: the auditorium / choir room
when: thursday, 2/11
what: jaz and joey serenade each other to celebrate their friendship + galentine’s day!
Whenever Joey got a text saying that someone needed to talk to him, he would always assume he had done something wrong and that he was in trouble. It wasn't any different when he got the text from Jazmine on his phone to meet him in the auditorium, but he made his way towards the auditorium either way. As he walked in and spotted Jaz, Joey smiled at her, forgetting that maybe he was in trouble as he made his way towards her. Raising an eyebrow was he finally approached her, Joey couldn't help but to be curious on why he was there - it didn't seem like he was in trouble, but meeting someone in the auditorium usually wasn't that usual unless they had a secret glee club meeting or for booty camp even. As Joey placed his bag on top of the piano that stood on the stage, he turned to Jaz. "So, are you going to tell me why you asked me here? Because if you're still mad at me about the Barbra portrait, I already told you I was sorry." Joey said with a nod, as he looked over at his friend.
Jaz was standing in the auditorium with a big smirk on her face. She posed with her hands behind her back. "I know you have a boyfriend....and you're not a gal technically. But I'm celebrating Galentine's instead of Valentine's. And you're my fave gal." She said, moving her hands in front of her. She was holding a basket full of treats and a pair of heart-pattern socks.
As Joey raised an eyebrow as Jaz started to talk, he couldn't help but to smile at the other when she showed him the basket. As Joey approached his friend to look at the basket, he nodded his head. "This is really sweet! I love this." Joey said as he looked over at the treats and took the basket from the other. "Thank you! You could have just given this to me in the choir room though, we didn't need to hide. Everyone knows that I'm your favorite." Joey teased with a chuckle.
Jaz couldn't hold back her smile. "Okay we totally could have...however, I also have something else." she said, pulling out the sheet music for Double Rainbow out of her backpack. She handed one copy to Joey. "I know we don't talk about it...cuz it's sad, but Cam is going to be gone next year. I feel like Cam and New Directions have always been the glue of our friendship but like...I want to take our friendship to the next level. You mean a lot to me." She rambled. "I want to dedicate this song to you for Vocal Valentines. But...you also have to sing it with me because I love our voices together!"
Looking over as Jaz took the sheet music from her backpack, Joey took it from the other's hand as he started to read. As Jaz started talking about Cam, Joey let out a sigh as he nodded his head. It was weird to think that he wouldn't be there next year, but that didn't mean that Joey was going to stop talking to Jaz. "It's pretty sad... But at least we can have an awesome senior year, right? It'll be pretty fun. Plus, you have to drive me around once you get your license... I know Cam is my best friend, but you're like a sister to me. And I know that I have a lot of siblings already, but what's wrong with one more?" Joey said, as he agreed to singing with the other. "Of course! You go first." He said, before motioning towards the other.
Jaz smirked. She knew Joey would say yes. “You can come out now, Jonathan.” Jaz said with a smile, as a random band kid came out and sat at the piano to play the song. Jaz took one of joey’s hands in hers as she began to sing the opening chorus. “You’re a one-of-a-one, a one-of-a-kind, that you only find once in a lifetime”. She sang as she pulled Joey into center center stage. as she finished the first verse she spun joey around like a ballerina: “they say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, when I found you it was all pitter-patter.”.
joey begins to sing for the next verse. we see a short montage of joey and jaz’s friendship up until this point. they’re laughing in the backseat of cam’s car while eating mcdonalds. we jaz and joey being silly in the backseat of the bus while on the way to regionals. we see shots of when they performed me! together during thanksgiving break. we cut back to present joey and jaz as he sings the prechorus: “they say one man’s trash is another girl’s treasure. So if it’s up to me, I’m gonna keep you forever”.
as joey and jaz sing the chorus, we cut to the choir room where joey and jaz are singing double rainbow for their teammates and sitting on stools. they’re in perfect harmony and smiling through the song while the band plays behind them.
“'Cause I understand you, we see eye to eye
Like a double rainbow in the sky
And wherever you go, so will I
'Cause a double rainbow is hard to find”
by the time jaz and joey get to the bridge of the song, they both stand up from their stools and interact with their teammates. “To the bottom of the sea, I'd go to find you. Climb the highest peak to be right beside you” Joey sings as he ruffles Julien’s hair and dances in front of Lemon. “Every step I take, I'm keeping you in mind” they sing as jaz joins in and spins mr. schuester in his spinny chair. they sing the last chorus together, taking turns stepping away from the melody to add flavor with some runs. by the end of the song the rest of the new directions are joining in with background vocals.
“it’s…” zoe trailed off, trying her hardest to choose her words smartly. “cute alright.” it wasn’t anything she’d ever choose for herself, but she supposed if anyone could pull something like that off, it was jaz. “who are you going with? i feel like we haven’t caught up in a hot minute.” in fact, the last time was the series of texts in which jaz had been seeking boy advice. instantly, zoe’s eyebrows piqued with curiosity. “what ever happened to that boy you were texting me about?” a look of absolute horror washed over zo’s face as she watched jaz get up and start dancing. “stop,” she groaned, a hand reaching up the rub the bridge of her nose. “you are literally not dancing like that at candyland.”
(。・∀・)ノ゙
jaz laughed as zoe groaned. “if i spot you and theo at this thing, best believe i’m shooing him away and throwing it back on you!” she said, pointing at zoe’s face and whipping around back into the dressing room. it was very purposeful for her to choose this exact moment to change into another outfit, she didn’t want to be looking at zoe’s face when she came clean. she took a deep breath. “i guess it doesn’t really matter because nothing came of it...but davis and i were a secret thing for a while. that was the big secret.” she finally released with a shrug. “don’t say i told you so, i know he sucks.”
Doling out slushie facials to members of the New Directions had landed Rocky in some hot water with his father. In the past, his dad had never cared if he raised hell with the theater kids, but ever since he’d gotten together with Quinn Fabray, he’d gone soft. Every little thing Rocky did now had to be approved by his grandfather, his father and his soon-to-be step mother. It was a nightmare, and it was why come Saturday, Brock had forced Rocky to attend Ohio’s first bout of regional competition to support the New Directions.
Rocky didn’t care about the competition itself. It was whatever. He’d seen ND perform before and they were decent, but truly he couldn’t tell the difference between them and any other show choir group. When they won, Rocky applauded them, and then he left the venue with his dad before he had the chance to congratulate anyone. Come night time, Rocky figured if he’d had to sit through and suffer the performance itself, he deserved to reward himself with a party. So he showed up to Candy’s, 24-pack of beer in tow, and quickly started crushing cans in the kitchen with his boys. At some point, Jaz rolled up, and Rocky was quick to get her attention “Evans,” he greeted, crossing his arms over one end of the island counter in Candy’s kitchen and smiling at her, "you definitely broke a leg or whatever today. Closing Time is a fucking legendary song.” Rocky raised his brows and grabbed a beer from the fridge before sending it sliding in her direction of the counter. “Does this mean you guys won the whole thing and shit?”
jaz was late to the party after eating a celebratory dinner with her family. it wasn’t everyday that new directions made it to nationals. it was a big deal for a family full of show choir alums. so jaz strolled into candy’s house with a full stomach, and a much more comfortable getup than her regionals dress. she didn’t expect the first person she saw to be rocky, let alone for him to be the first person to talk to her. she walked toward him with a small smile. “It’s a pretty good song.” She said, reverting to the dry responses she always threw at rocky. no...tonight was supposed to be celebratory not sad. “yeah kinda. after this we get to compete in new york at the end of the year. which is cool, i’ve never been.” she said with a nod. she rubbed her arm. “do you want to...play beer pong with me?”
Miles was used to being the most confident and the most talented person in every room he was in, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t recognize when someone else wasn’t half bad. And Jazmine? She wasn’t half bad. Being paired up with him probably wouldn’t make her look too bad. “We are,” he agreed with a nod. He cleared his throat and took a seat at the piano, motioning for her to come join him as he listened to her question. Oh, Jazmine had come to the right place with questions like these. “Well, we should make your mom proud, right?” He joked, slightly annoyed by sincerity in his own voice. He’d meant for it to be more mocking than it had turned out. “People always say you need to sing with your heart and your soul,” he mumbled out, playing a few notes on the piano, before turning slightly to look over at her. “But we both know that I don’t have either of those. It’s talent, Jazmine. Either you’ve got it or you don’t,” he explained, before letting out a soft sigh. He hated it here. he did. But he wanted to win, and he needed this girl’s confidence level at a ten. “I think you’ve got it. So, just get on stage and act like it.”
(づ ̄ 3 ̄)づ
jaz nodded as she listened to miles talk. she always thought for her mom it was a little bit of both. she was so technical and knowledgeable about singing, but she also had so much raw emotion every time she uttered a note. it was kinda intimidating to be her daughter. she dropped her backpack on the piano and looked around. the rest of the new directions were gone. she looked back to miles. “no offense...but i’m going to need a little bit of practice acting like it. using my captain privleges to ask/tell you to run the closing time again with me.” she said, spinning into place to rehearse once more.
