Beautiful work from artist and illustrator Alberto Seveso.
Relaxing
The thing about relaxing is you have to use your muscles. It’s a paradox. Similarly, if you want to understand modern times, you have to read literature. I like to read Ashbery. It’s like listening to Coltrane. You can spend your life listening and not know his secrets or learn much about anything. But you can still be a successful scholar. Just don’t be one of those critics who gets sidetracked for decades thinking he’s found the next rock star. Always remember the basics and the biases of educated readers. Stay in the middle, as Miguel Cabrera, the Detroit Tiger says to other Detroit Tigers. That means don’t swing at balls. You’ll get your chance. Go easy. Make solid contact. Some would say these men are wise. Others, like my friends back home, would say they are “very blessed.” Wisdom doesn’t put fine points on things; it only draws simple contrasts. Just accept that we’re in this thing called “modern times.” Logic does not apply here. All the poets who’ve ever mattered agree, which defies imagination. That’s why we can’t stop thinking about them and buying their books.

The British pop band the xx play on themes of exposure and intimacy in the immensity of the Park Avenue Armory drill hall, inverting almost all of what is expected in rock.
