colt has been through a lot in his lifetime. he had a questionable childhood. it wasnât awful, but it wasnât great either. he was pretty badly behaved and eventually raised by a single mother after his parents divorced. he was a highschool drop out and went straight to stunt work since he was seventeen years of age, wasnât even an adult yet. itâs all colts ever known. he got mixed in with bad people, broke his back and temporarily put his life on pause for eighteen months. he came back to hell. coltâs life somehow spiralled even more, he was nearly killed several times⌠accused and framed of murder, got tortured, waterboarded, beaten to pulp. somehow he managed to recover from all of that and had been somewhat living a normal life again. things were good with jody, they went back to work. she directed the movies and he did all the stunt work.
everything was normal until it wasnât, colt had been somewhat debriefed on everything about becka, but he was probably missing an incredible amount of detail. it was hard to believe that there was a place like that full of young girls that didnât deserve to be living such a controlled life. there was no way in hell that heâd ever turn down the offer to take her home into something much more civilised. colt wasnât the dad type. jesus, the man could barely take care of himself. he was good with kids. his friends at set sometimes brought their kids to come visit, but that was only for a couple hours. this was permanent. regardless. he was willing to learn. heâd be the father figure that becka needed
âyeah?â his head hung back with a sigh so hard he banged it against the wall. who knew clothes shopping would be so difficult? he assumed this would be the easy part. colt was trying. he really was. part of him wished that he forced jody to come along with him, surely there was some sort of âŚ. girl code thing? like, theyâd just be able to figure out clothes sizes just by looking at it âiâm sorry, kidâ colt offered an apologietic smile as he pushed himself to stand up straight âsure we can. yâknow, you can chose some other stuff too? you donât always have to wear a dress. could wear something a little more comfortableâ
THE BRUNETTE SHIFTS awkwardly in place, billowing garment swaying with each movement. â it's alright. it's isn't your fault, pray obviously. â she bets shunnamite would know how to style clothes in the world outside of gilead. she always seemed to put together something fashionable, even in the shared colors they all wore. mind can not help but to wander, to think of her friends left behind within the country. what would happen to them? were they all still getting married, running their households as new wives? had shunnamite finally become a green? where was agnes? was she okay?
for a second it feels like she'll be lost in thought forever, until... ( "you don't always have to wear a dress. could wear something a little more comfortable." ) â like a skirt? i saw some with the rest of the clothes, they were very short. do women really wear something so immodest? do they not feel terrible & ungodly for tempting men in such a way? â ( you are not blameless, girls, aunt estee would say. ) â this place is wrought with sin. â forgive her, colt. unlearning gilead teachings would take far longer than a few days. â i'm going to get changed. â
a swift turn on her heel, stepping back into the dressing room to shed the oversized garment. maybe this whole thing would feel more hopeless were it not for whatever pop song was falling faintly from overhead speakers. music outside of gilead, still a new one. once secured in her arrival outfit once more, she leaves the confines of the fitting room. chestnut hues look at the tag upon the dress, the letter L staring back at her. features scrunch, obvious frustration over not understanding. why was nothing a simple picture here? â what size is this? â dress is handed over with ease, â we need to get the one that comes before this. â
âuhââ colt doesnât even know how to answer that properly. he almost immediately stalls and stumbles over his words âno, not a skirt. i meant pants or something. and a t-shirt. casual clothesâ from what heâs grasping, things are very different where sheâs been. the ânormsâ are set decades back in time where nothing in modern time even seems right âand no they donât, itâsâ itâs normal here⌠i donât know how to explain it. you can wear whatever youâd like. it doesnât give anyone, especially a man, a reason to be temptedâ colt wracks at his brain, desperate for a more competent string of words to leave his mouth
he goes quiet for a moment, resisting a sigh as he waits by the door âthatâs normalâ colt speaks up a little so that she can still hear him âeverybody âsinsâ, nothing to worry about. your clothes definitely are nothing to worry about. same with everyone else. you wear what makes you happyâ he knows that heâs probbaly going to have to shield becka from a lot for a little while. at least until she slowly adapts back into life, if the concept of immodest clothing is bad then oh boy, thereâs some things heâll need to hide. especially within the life that colt lives
he lingers around outside, slowly pacing back and fourth before she eventually emerges again âhm?â colt approaches, leaning over just enough to read the tag on the back. rightâ that makes sense. probably shouldâve checked that before hand âuh itâs a largeâ thereâs a quiet huff of a breath. shopping was difficult âyou might need a medium, or a small even. just. wait inside, iâll go get a couple different ones⌠do you want anything else? iâve also got some clothes back at my apartment. from my niece, sheâs all grown up now so she probably wonât need emâ anymoreâ
IT'S DIVINE JUSTICE. | an ind. portrayal of rebecka grove from margaret atwood's the testaments. entirely show based with no novel influences. as told by Anna-Belle (21+).
HE'S TRYING, REALLY he is. that much becka is aware of, something she takes into account more & more each day. it must be difficult, to receive a girl like her within his care. the way all adults outside of gilead seemed to look at her was evident. that sense of pity, of something else she couldn't quite place. especially those at the refugee center. what had they told @thefallgvy right before bringing him to her? was he debriefed as she was? were they merely two individuals stumbling blindly through this whole thing? trying to understand each other & the worlds they came from. part of her is certain her dear uncle was not fit for parenthood. that this is a position he never saw himself within. how much of that was the truth?
â this one is too big. â the words come from the other side of the dressing room door, becka gazing upon her own reflection within the mirror. she felt ridiculous. things were so easy within gilead. her mother acquired all her new clothes, measurements taken by the aunts when she began to blossom. she never had to learn such tedious things or take into account what her shoe size must be. she never had to develop her own sense of fashion. perhaps that's why she now feels so out of place, picking at the dress that enveloped her form. since when had she cared this much about her appearance?
( "prideful girls lead to sinful women, rebecka. would god want you to be prideful?" no, aunt vidala, he would not. ) â i look like i'm wearing a blanket. â door handle turns, the teen stepping out into fluorescent changing room lights. the fabric was like a tent across petite frame, daring to swallow her whole. in this moment, she misses her purple adornments most of all. the freedom to choose was dizzying, in the worst way possible. â could we find another dress? â

TOM RYDER SAID: âyou canât run forever.â @retriibutions
colt froze on the spot. entire body stiffened in a sharp reaction of fear. he knew that horrible sourthern accent all to well. it was engraved into his mind from the day that they met and itâll stay there until the day colt dies. no, no no. this couldnât be real. it certainly didnât feel real. his back was still turned to the voice lingering behind. perhaps if he didnât make eye contact then it wasnât real. wishful thinking, colt.
his chest felt like it was about to explode, fastening tighter and tighter against his heart. in a split second he swung around, eyes meeting the all familiar face of ryder âyouâre kidding, rightâ? he laughed in disbelief because this. this felt like a scene from one of his movies âwhat do you want, ryder? what are you doing here? i- i thought you were deadâ maybe thatâs what colt gets for fleeing australia the second that he was cleared from the police. he needed to get himself out of sydney as soon as possible, but it seemed like an awfully bad idea now cause clearly he lost track of tom
âoh, coolâ ken mutters along to himself as he follows behind like some sort of lost puppy looking for his owner. heâs not used to the real world in the slightest. and the last time they were here together ken wandered off on his own and discovered a little too much for anyone elseâs liking. heâs missed barbie. so much actually. so much to the point that he barely even functions properly. ken really does not have a good day unless barbie looks at him
eyes flickered all across the place far too enamoured by the decor and how different everything looked to barbie land. everything wasââ well, real. real people, real houses, real cars. it was a lot to take in at first. especially for someone like ken that just wanted to touch everything new to him âoh, just us?â he perks up like a puppy, internally flustered. if a doll could blush, thatâs exactly what he would be doing right now.
itâs no surprise to anyone that heâs totally head over heels for barbie. whether heâs a friend or more, heâs downright obsessed with every last thing about her. and that includes listening to whatever stories or adventures sheâs been on. the only difference is that ken wishes heâs been here the whole time to experience those things with her. âyeah? pretty cool stuff i betâ he grins, practically beaming for her even if he does miss how things once were âwhat have you been up to then? you gotta tell me everythingâ itâs so weird not having you around. everyone misses you yâknow, iâ i miss youâ his voice trails off at the end into a slightly quieter tone as if heâs suddenly embarrassed at the mini tangent âanyway. whatâs changed? any big differences from home?â
â VERY COOL STUFF. â the correction comes swift, tone light & airy. how could this day get any better? ( "i miss you." ) oh. her smile falls a moment, a sense of sympathy etching into soft features. â ken... â arm extends, a gentle hand now placed upon his shoulder. â i miss you, too, you know. it's still a little weird, waking up here & not in the dreamhouse. not seeing everyone every day, things being more complicated than back in barbieland. being human has so much to adjust to. â a pause, â i feel like it may be easier if you were by my side. i know it's selfish to think that, though. human beings are often selfish, i've learned. â & she was no exception.
a soft smile returns, her gentle touch now falling as her arm returns to her side. â so much has changed! i live with other people now, instead of my own house. i have my own room, though. â barbie cocks her head to the side, an unspoken instruction to follow her. â it isn't much to look at yet, but i am trying to decorate more & more every week. â stepping through the doorway into the room in question. â don't mind the scattered clothes, trying to pick an outfit is a lot harder than it looks. i didn't know how lucky i was that the dreamhouse chose for me. â the blonde settles upon the edge of her bed, watching ken with intrigue. â you're free to explore this room, it's all mine. if you wanted to touch things, i mean. â
what big differences could she begin to talk about? â i'm working on getting a license. apparently you need one of those to be able to operate a car here. â legally, anyway. â oh, i've been going to a lot of doctor's appointments! i went to the gynecologist at gloria's recommendation. she said that 'tending to vaginal health is important' so, i went to get a pap smear & full exams. doctors are so important, they know so much. i took home so many pamphlets. â there's a moment taken to think of what else has been occurring within her life. â i've been learning all about cooking as well! not burning food can be so tricky. â
selective hearing of whatever itâs called. ken totally zones out until he hears the sweet sound of her voice saying i miss you too. his heart practically grows five sizes then and there. he can feel the swell of his chest and how his brain totally short circuits at the slightest form of affection âyeah? you did? you missed me?â heâs like an excited puppy wagging its tail, proudly smiling at the hand that places itself on his shoulder. god. her touch was so perfect and he yearned for it with every passing second âcoolâ so coolâ itâs a little too late to try and be mr macho man that plays it cool, but he tries anyway. ken wishes that he could stay. he doesnât care about the others the same way that he cares about her. he wants to be in her presence twenty four seven. he wants to be by her side. he wants her to hold him again and to let that beautiful touch linger for a little longer. ken lets out a loud breath of a sigh that he didnât even know he was holding in âi would be by your side if you wanted me to be. whatever you needâ
ken does as instructed and follows along throughout the house, eyes wandering up and down all of the walls and rooms, taking everything new in. this was very different to the dreamhouse. it wasnât so pink and vibrant. it also lacked the presence of alllll of the other barbieâs that spent half their nights having big sleepovers. yes, perhaps ken was still a little upset about that night âitâs very pretty. you did a good jobâ honestly. the room could be decorated or completely empty and heâd still praise her for how good she did, ken didnât really know any better âcoolâ there he was again, trailing off and walking around her bedroom. he touched a few things here and there, being a little more gentle than usual. he wouldnât want to break any of her things
as he paced around the room he listened to her talk. going over all of the little anecdotes about what sheâd been up to in the real world. there was a lot of âcoolâ and âmhmsâ , mindlessly nodding along until the end nearly knocked the air right out of his chest âyou whâ you haveâ you what?â ken stuttered over every last word, cheeks flushed a deep pink âwhatâs that mean?â he had a slight inkling. after all, ken did his research whenever he could. he wasnât afraid to ask questions
REALLY, IS IT any surprise that barbie would be relaying her new experiences of human life to @thefallgvy? one doesn't spend all those years together in barbieland without developing at least some semblance of fondness for ken. perhaps she could never imagine they'd be this close once more, but life has a funny way of surprising you. one moment you're a doll only sometimes annoyed with ken's doting, the next you're a human woman finding it endearing. what a curveball that was. â gloria is at work, sasha is with some friends. â she hardly knows where gloria's husband is. he was merely away from the home. that was all barbie needed to know, right?
the door to the los angeles home is propped open with ease, allowing her counterpart inside. her counterpart, what a strange way to regard him. maybe ken was right, maybe it always would be barbie & ken. never one without the other. â they should all be back later. until then, it's just me & you. â positively beaming is she, now shutting the door. the crisp air conditioning was something she had become accustomed to. did such a thing bother a doll, she wondered. does ken even notice? â i have had so many adventures & discoveries since moving to the real world, ken. â
acquiring a state identification card, working towards her license, learning human customs, going to the gynecologist... what hadn't she done? â i can't wait to tell you everything. â
âoh, coolâ ken mutters along to himself as he follows behind like some sort of lost puppy looking for his owner. heâs not used to the real world in the slightest. and the last time they were here together ken wandered off on his own and discovered a little too much for anyone elseâs liking. heâs missed barbie. so much actually. so much to the point that he barely even functions properly. ken really does not have a good day unless barbie looks at him

he stands on a subway platform , alone , rain still dripping from his hair . and he lights a cigarette , held between the first two fingers of his shaking hand . doesn't care that it's crowded , or that the train should be showing up before he reaches the butt of his smoke . it doesn't matter to him . they can all hate him , for all he cares .
until he catches someone staring at him . he locks eyes , pulls smoke into his lungs , flicks ash into the platform . and he smirks , just barely . like he's relishing that he'd been caught .
such a small thing to be caught for , smoking on a crowded station platform . a pleasant jolt of acknowledgement either way .
it takes colt a little while to notice. heâs totally day dreaming, off in his own head thinking about something that had happened at work a few days. the noise of the crowd around him goes quiet, but his eyes lock on to a figure standing across at the other platform. he too is surrounded by peopleâ and smoking around them. colt quit that a few months ago. sometimes he still struggles with it
thereâs an awkward shift at the sudden eye contact between them and colt snaps his head away. thereâs nothing quite as awkward as getting caught totally staring like an idiot. even worse that the other guy smiles at him, acknowledging the fact heâd been caught red handed
colt clears his throat and nods. thereâs a small awkward smile on his face as to say âsorryâ
only colt seavers would smile at being called unbearable. he knew that he was slowly chipping away at this idea, getting closer an closer to a yes, or at least something along the lines of a yes. whatever it isâ heâll take it. a stunts a stunt, who was he to complain? âi think you mean irresistible, not unbearable. but okayâ he states with a smug look on his face, chuckling to himself
âwhâ really?â colt perked up like a dog that was being given a treat âyouâll let me try?â he shifted in his seat, turning around just enough to face her. colt knew that look. the look that said donât you dare mess this up for me.
he nodded, silently swearing to himself that heâd kill it in one take âokayâ okay, okay. one takeâ despite the fact that it was like he was getting told off in school over again, he still sat there with a smile on his face. itâs not his fault. he couldnât look at jody without completely melting everytime, she just had that effect on him âright, right deal. one take. no getting hurt. no hospital. i promiseâ you wonât regret letting me do thisâ
jody could see the way that his face lit up with excitement when he finally got his way and she agreed to his idea. that in itself was more than enough to make her question her own decisions . â donât be so pleased with yourself . â she mumbled , rolling her eyes despite that fact that she was unable to hide that hint of amusement .
â this is merely a temporary lapse of judgement on my part . â but sheâd allow it , as much as she was already considering taking what she said back . the thought of hospitals was enough to make her expression shift on its own , as though the unwanted memory had lingered back into her mind . her jaw clenched subtly while she studied his face , a hand reaching out for a brief moment . before she pulled it back again , no . donât get all soppy now .
clearly her throat, she relaxed her body again . â and if you do anything overtly stupid , i will make sure that your next stunt consists of you getting thrown out of my production . â
âyou wonât regret it, i promise you right nowâ colt stands up from the couch, a beaming smile on his face, heâs not so drowsy and tired from the hours of work now. he walks over to jody and wraps his arms around her for a tight hug âi could kiss you right nowâ colt doesnât realise how it sounds until the words leave his mouth, then heâs letting out an awkward choke of a laugh, pulling away ânot that i-. i wonât. thatâs not what i meant. iâm not gonna try kiss youâ
oh god, he was bright red more flushed than ever and kept stuttering over every word that left his mouth before running a hand over his face. how embarrassing. what idiot says that to their ex girlfriend?
although, colt wishes that he could kiss her again. he misses that feeling. how soft she was against his mouth and how sweet it felt for her fingers to run through his hair. theyâd sneak kisses on set when no one was looking, kissed good morning (and goodbye) almost everyday. they were perfect and colt had to go out and ruin it. wait, wait waitâ now is not the time to start daydreaming colt
âanyway. thank youâ he clears his throat, another awkward shift as he fixes his hair that didnât need any fixing, doing anything thatâll postpone him from saying something else dumb âi got this. one shot, yeah? iâll get out of your way, iâll see you on setâ
âplease?â he asks with a stupid grin, really pushing his luck. it seems like a pretty firm no. but heâs gotten noâs to several stunt ideas before, and theyâre the ones that end up in the movies â oh come on. that was one time and it was an accident, iâll be in full control of it this time. not some wires with a guy operating it. iâm your best driver â
he almost shuddered at the distant memory of his injury. sheâs got a point, that still haunted colt and he certainly didnât want to go through all of that again. but regardless? he was dedicated to this jump
âuhhhâ he was stalling again. of course he didnât have a plan. whenever colt got free reign of a stunt car he didnât know how to act accordingly ever. he just got in the thing and drove like a maniac âiâm not praying that itâll look good, i know that itâll look goodâ heâs dodging her question. colts only idea of a plan is to absolutely wing it âdonât you want your movie to look its very best?â colt canât help but smile up at her. she tends to have that affect on him even when he has totally taken her trailer over as his own
that grin . he was making it increasingly difficult for jody to stay irritated with him , but nonetheless she listened â his first victory . of course she wanted the movie to look brilliant , but was it worth sacrificing colt ?
perhaps .
she knew that he would never have a plan , it was a stupid question to ask . he was hardly persuasive but he had this stupid hold over her , one that she knew would land her in some amount of trouble eventually . â you are unbearable , did you know that ? â she wasnât saying no anymore , she knew he did his best work when it was basically improvised .
the blonde sighed heavily , clearly she was defeated and she hated to admit it . â if i agree to this , you only get one take . â her tone was firm as she sat herself down beside him on the couch , body turned to face him so that he could witness the stern expression plastered across her face .
â one take . and if it doesnât look good or something goes wrong , weâre not doing it again . â she had held out her finger , pointing to him as if that would give her more authority . â and iâm not coming with you to the hospital if you get hurt . i do have a movie to make . â
only colt seavers would smile at being called unbearable. he knew that he was slowly chipping away at this idea, getting closer an closer to a yes, or at least something along the lines of a yes. whatever it isâ heâll take it. a stunts a stunt, who was he to complain? âi think you mean irresistible, not unbearable. but okayâ he states with a smug look on his face, chuckling to himself
