there is positivity in every day, you just have to look for it :)
So last year this time, we were all still reeling from the verbal smackdown Remy Ma laid on Nicki Minaj. With "Shether" the diss we'll be talking about for years to come, Remy Ma resurrected an aspect in women's hip hop that has proven to be very entertaining and dynamic. Although some fans would say beef is exactly what's plaguing women, what I would say is that this is Hip-hop. And if you're a true hip-hop fan, you would know that beef is what keeps the game interesting. Just like a sport, direct challenges command participants to bring their A-game. With that being said, what we saw from Nicki last year, was a fighter who got caught off guard and duffed out. The songs she sent in response to "Shether" were utterly despicable to listen to. And for a whole year we've had to listen to shady, sub shots at Remy in pretty much every feature she appeared on. The positive side of this whole beef, is that the doors of the female rap game got swung wide open. We got to hear from the likes of Azaelia Banks, Cardi B, Kash Doll, and other upcoming Indie girls on a higher frequency than before this verbal brawl took place. We even got a collab from Nicki & Cardi which, (in my opinion), was to give off the air that Nicki could in fact, share the stage of Hip-hop. It seemed like a stunt to disprove the accusations that she had intentionally barred other women from making breakthroughs. However, the song is a dope, and now we have new tracks from Nicki, casting the Aura of "Itty Bitty Piggy" Nickster and I'm here for it. "Barbie Tings" is a BOP. I'm proud at her for collecting her edges and fixing her crown. Sis was a bit shook for a second there. What do yall think? Is it a bop or flop?
Just like the title of her song, this week's WCW is living her Best Life. Cardi B and the B is for BUN IN THE OVEN! While we do have various contributors with multiple points of views here at the Feminine Presence, one thing we can ALL agree on is we are SUPER excited for Baby Bardi ! Cardi has proven she is committed to growth, as her lyrics, cadence, and overall flow has steadily improved since her Love & Hip Hop debut to now. And she has dedicated herself to her progression, while engaging in a very public, yet very private relationship with Offset, and now she's glowing with a cute Lil baby bump as her album drops. I am so proud her, she really out here serving Libra realness with the work/life balance ON LOCK. I'm loving it. Not to mention her album is full of boss babe quotables, boundary enforcing mantras, and fire ass samples & features. I'm so impressed with Miss Cardi, she's got great drive, and a long future ahead of her if she keeps up the tone she has set for herself. Muchos Kudos to this week's WCW, Cardi B!
Who is Sa-Roc? Her birth name is Assata Perkins and she has been out for quite some time in the music scene. Sa-Roc was born in Southeast Washington, D.C. as a Capricorn. She has been making music since 2002. She has a hit single with David Banner called “The Who” off of her “Nebuchadnezzar” album (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUBRq4yzDYc). She has a huge selection of music to choose from. I recently heard her recent song “Forever", the visuals and lyrics are UH-MAZING (view for yourself. The last verse is my favorite - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ8YYjSwrNc) . I bring to you this week’s WCW/WCE Sa-Roc!
Rest in peace Winnie Madikizela Mandela 1936-2018 She passed today.
I think we've all dealt with loneliness. It's bitter, at first, much like a grapefruit. Yet it finishes the palate with a refreshing sweetness. This complex tango is captured, here by singer-songwriter Jamila Woods in a soothing, pinpoint accurate ballad called "Holy". The song comes from her debut album, Heavn, released in 2016. With her clever use of a very familiar Psalm, (many of us grew up memorizing it in church, if raised Christian), she reconstructs the vibratory relationship between loneliness and our individual Divinity. She weaves a story of empowerment centered around drawing closer to the Divine Creator. And this week, as spring comes to full bloom, and IG and news feeds are filled with radiant, melanated couples, I share this week's Music Monday with the intention that it may encourage readers of this blog to worship their lonely space, and embrace it for all the freedom and wonder it holds. Have an amazing week lovelies! Play this self-love anthem through the week as many times as you find yourself needing it💜

YES Aries women, I'm here for y'alls fire 😍
First of all, who is this AfroLatina Beauty? Her name is Amara LaNegra. You may know her from Love and Hip-Hop Miami. This Woman Crush Wednesday (everyday might I add) is beginning to transform the AfroLatina music scene and is crossing over into Hip-hop. She has discussed the likes of rap artists such as Cardi B and how race and sex place a pivotal role in the music industry (check out the interview with Charlamagne The God on The Breakfast Club - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yAiI3Hs-p4). She is a libra baby (the best of the best in my personal opinion lol) and YES her afro is REAL (fact check https://www.allure.com/story/amara-la-negra-takes-out-braids-afro-real). This week for #WCW/#WCE we have Amara LaNegra. Watch her videos as well! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3Wr0S3cd-y-jMGa0eLTQvw
#TBT Lathun ft Da Brat - Freak It
This song is a black BBQ CLASSIC! Right up there with the electric slide, wobble, & the cha-cha slide. It's nostalgic impact ripples through the culture. Complete with it's own line dance (if you from the dirty south you know what I'm talkin' bout!), this song is gonna be played this summer, next summer, and even when we vibrate to the Utopia of Wakanda! We found a version of this song with SUPA DUPA emcee Da Brat and we funk-dafying your Throwback Thursday with it! (That was for my old hip-hop heads, Peace to da 80's babies!) Happy Almost Weekend from The Feminine Presence! XD
