Slavic Gods
There are three main Slavic Gods that I’ve read about,
There is Perun, the god of lightning and thunder.
Veles the god of trickery and deception.
Svarog god of fire and blacksmiths.
Perun is also the god of law, heavens, and mountains as well and was often invoked in treaties. He was worshipped in oak groves and in certain folk beliefs his way of purifying, and life stimulating functions were done through use of his vehicles.
The axe.
The bull.
The He-Goat.
The dove and the cuckoo.
Sacrifices and communal feasts took place at times on June 20th.
The North Star was also called Perun’s eye in slavic mythology!
Then we have Veles! He ruled the Underworld, and was often depicted as a shapeshifting dragon, or serpent creeping up to the lands of Perun to oppose him. He ended up remaining an outcast due to this.
He was also associated with:
Sorcery
Mischief
Etc.
Svarog is the god of blacksmithing and and Fire
He was also equipped with a celestial hammer that helped forge the sun and thereby helped create the living world and he also held the title of sun god.
Once this process was done, he went to sleep. It’s said if he wakes up the world of men will crumble.
He was also associated with the creation of three realms.
Now keep in mind these sources I present to you vary and all are not complete. The way this mythology goes is often contradictory like most. This is a very basic overview because I have never worked with these gods, so take my words with a grain of salt. I'll provide you with some of the resources I've used though. There's more, but I trust you to find others. We get a lot of sources from Christians and archaeology sadly, so do with that what you will.
Like all ancient civilizations, the Slavs relied on many gods and goddesses to help them explain the world. Learn about the Slavic gods and
Slavic religion, beliefs and practices of the ancient Slavic peoples of eastern Europe. Slavs are usually subdivided into East Slavs (Russia
Freyja - Goddess of Love, Fertility, Battle etc.
Parentage: The sea god Njord.
Siblings Freyr
Sacred Animals: Pigs, Boars, Cats
Freyja realm is called Folkvangr, and would choose half of the fallen warriors for her hall while Odin would choose half the others.
She is a member of the Vanir, and later became a member of the Aesir gods after a war came along between the two tribes. ( I can go more in depth if needed).
According to some of the sources I looked up Freyja is the archetype of the volva, a practitioner of seidr, which is Nordic magic. (Forgives me I know I;m spelling these wrong more than likely)
She also had a chariot drawn by cats, which I thought was interesting! She is also the leader of the Valkyries! They are fierce warriors who guide the souls of the dead warriors.
Epithets: Syr or Sow
Gefn: Giver
There are more, but this is what I have so far.
Some of her practitioners call upon her when they need to hold healthy boundaries in a relationship.
Some of the sources I list will paint Freyja in different lights, keep in mind some of these are historical and are biased. Use your discernment to tell what these biases may be please!

hi! i dont know if youve posted about them or if you even take suggestions before but could you do one on a slavic deity? i dont mind who!
-@rottensigil
Of course! I'll look into them and post soon. I definetly take suggestions because I want to know who people want to know more about! Thank you for asking. I post polls every once in awhile to see who people want to know about. 😊
Al4ight so I'll be posting about Freyja soon y'all! I am gathering research as we speak.
I was going to put forth another topic. I've gotten a lot of really neat responses from people about the question " What deity intimidates you?" And I've seen anything from angels to demons to lemetic deities and greek. Nordic. Some I honestly don't know! This has been an amazing conversation.
But I wanted to bring up another topic relating to this one.
Why do they intimidate you? Is it a feeling or a warning from your intuition? Has someone told you a deity isn't beginner friendly? Something to think about.
Honwstly I was intimidated at first too, still am. How does one overcome that fear? Tbh I know what did it for me, but y'all gotta decide that for you. What point do you hit before you realize you want to work with or worship a deity? Because they are different.
Working with establishes trust and connection between two beings.
Whereas worshipping is showing appreciation and respect.
For me it was need. Pure and simple. I needed help and reached out and learned to appreciate and respect the deities I began to work with. It was rocky. It still is. They've been angry with me and I've been terrible sometimes at being a worshipper. And completely awful to work with. However I keep trying. Unless they tell me to go away I reach out. I try to make contact and check on progress and see what they want or need because a relationship is a two way street. Take and Give.
They come back though mostly when they do leave. They do have lives after all! So don't be too discouraged. :3 If you have any questions or concerns and need a shoulder I am here!
Which deity intimidates you as a witch or pagan? It can be any pantheon.
Literally all of them apart from Dionysus. I knew a lot about Dionysus before praying to them. I want to start worshipping Zeus and Aphrodite but they feel too imitimidating to me. I'm afraid of offending them.
If you'd like i can post information so you don't feel intimidated? I know a lot of people feel the same and I'd like to help. So if there's anything in particular that scares you about them let me know. - also. Knowing them helps. Knowing their stories. Myths. The things they like. Their epithets. And honestly.
As long as you come before them clean (like you cleanse yourself or simply just wash your hands and face) and respectful I doubt they'll be offended unless you really do something disrespectful. And believe me they'll let ya know. But. Like any relationship most of the time mistakes are mendable. The gods understand humans are fallible and they don't hold it against us. Like a parent or a gaurdian they correct as needed. 😊 So it's alright to make mistakes as long as you apologize yknow? In my experience.
Who wants direct resources included with my deity posts? I haven't thought about this before but I want y'all to have direct access to the same information I have so you can take in my words and the words of those much much smarter than me lol. All so you can decide for yourselves on what you believe and want to do.
Don't ever just take someone's word for it when it comes to information y'all. Not mine either.
So I've received some good feedback! I'm gonna start making more posts. It's time for another poll.
Which deity do y'all wanna hear about? I'm trying to break the stigma behind different deities. So here's some of the responses I got.
which deity do y'all want me to post about?
Zeus
Thoth
Freyja
Odin
Which deity intimidates you as a witch or pagan? It can be any pantheon.
Time for Hades post! Khaire all.
So.
Known as the Unseen one Hades is the god of the dead. Not death. Let's be clear here. He rules the Underworld alongside his wife Persephone.
Some of his epithets (other names) include.
Plouton: "Of Wealth
Euboulos: "Of Good Counsel"
Kthonios: "Of the Underworld"
Adamastos: "Unsubdued"
Stygios: "Of the River Styx"
Nekrôn Sôtêr: "Savior of the Dead"
There's more but here's my main list.
One of his main myths involve the abduction of Persephone. Here's the versions I've heard.
One is Zeus gave Persephone to Hades without her mother Demeters knowledge.
The second is where Aphrodite was upset because she didn't have dominion over Hades in the area of love. So she asked cupid to shoot him with an arrow of love. He did and Persephone was the one he saw. So he captured her and carried her back to the Underworld.
After being taken Persephone was tricked (according to some legends) into eating the pomegranate. Six seeds.
During this time Demeter searched everywhere for her daughter. Hecate leading the way with her torches. She had the crops dying at this point. Eventually she asked Helios what happened and he told her what he had seen. She went to Zeus who told her he has given Persephone to Hades. They learned Persephone had eaten the fruit of the Underworld so it was agreed she had to stay part time. And in Deneters grief the crops would die and the world would wither in that time. This is how we got the seasons we know today. And how Persephone came into her power as dread Queen of the Underworld.
Now for more on Hades. He also rules all under the earth. The riches. The dead. All of it.
So in light of that, offerings common to him are
- precious stones
-coins
-jewelry
Other offerings include
- cypress
-narcissus (the plant Persephone was said to be picking when she was abducted)
- libations such as coffee (do not drink or eat food offerings please its considered rude among other things)
- wine
-strong tea
-and bones.
Devotional Acts
- Learn about death and funerary practices.
-honor the dead. Your dead.
-learn about your ancestors
-study spiritwork and death magic
-Learn about the Underworld and its realms. Rivers.
-take care of your mental health. He doesn't wanna see you too soon okay?
His symbols are
-cornucopia
-helm
-black dogs
-keys
-bones
-precious metals and stones.
Theres so much more to him than the darkness people imagine. Is he feared? Yes. But he also deals with the aspects of life no one wants to handle. Or can't handle. He ushers in the dead no matter who or what you are. You'll get sorted out of course but his afterlife is just rest unless youre a truly terrible person. This isn't hell. It's just rest. A long deep rest. So I'm gonna ask you guys. What makes him feared to you, what about him scares you?
I won't disagree that he's scary but maybe I can ease those fears.
Alright! In light of recent events I've decided to start posting about the gods. Any god really. I don't have to but I wanna make sure that people learn the difference between fearing and respecting a deity.
So we're starting with the Morrigan.
Now a disclaimer! I've done research yes but I am not the end all be all so fact-check me.
Now.
The Morrigan consists of three sisters who have varying names. It's not clear in many myths who is truly one of the sisters so I'm going to include the ones I've worked with and spoken to through divination.
Theres:
Macha : pronounced (MAHK- uh) is the Irish goddess of land, sovereignty, battle, and horses. In my experience honestly? Intimidating yes. Should be feared? In my opinion I don't think so. If you fear something or someone how do you form a relationship with them? So respect with her is the key. She will be your battle buddy if you need it at times. Picks you up dusts you off and tells you "You're not done yet" before marching you right back in there.
She belongs to the Tuath de Danann (the de on de has an accent but my keyboard said no). She. Being a goddess of war is in fact vengeful. However. It's only if you cross her boundaries like in the legend of the men of Ulster. Mythology of this states that Macha (one of the many Machas in history) was the wife of a man named Cruinniuc. He went and bragged that his wife could outrun the fastest of horses. His wife Macha had made him promise not to mention her at the festival. The king of Ulster took offense when the husband mentioned what Macha could do and demanded the husband prove it. Macha was pregnant at the time. In order for her husband not to be killed she agreed. Birthed twins at the finish line and cursed the men of Ulster to become weakest at their greatest hour of need. She was wronged betrayed and humiliated- so she took her vengeance.
There is also Badb: pronounced (Bye-ve) her name means battle crow. Associated with war battle and death, she often appears in the form of a crow or raven to foretell warfare etc etc. So technically a goddess of prophecy as well. She's alao known as the washer of the Ford and foretells death by washing the clothes of the person who is to pass.
In my experience she also aids with grief and facing the loss of the ones you love. Because every deity has sides of terror and love to them yes? It's only which ones you can handle that make you decide who to form a relationship with.
There is also Nemain - or (Neh-vaughn) goddess of war and chaos. She represents the havoc and fury of battle, where men and women fight friends and enemies alike. She is the desperate bid for survival that is needed in times of emergency. Or she is the instrument of doom when you lose your mind. Her battle cry is so powerful she could kill a hundred men. And! She also at times appears as the banshee or bean-sidhe.
She helps deal with rage. The chaos inside that so many feel.
Signs and symbols of the Morrigan are: Ravens and crows, weapons of war, water like rivers and lakes, the number three, Shape-shifting animals like wolves and crows and eels (as said in her mythos) along with blood.
So Im gonna talk a little bit about what it was like to work with her. If you want more info about where to go for their myths let me know and ill post a separate post for this.
But, working with her was like working with fire. It's easy to be burned but the warmth and the light is worth it. It can light up the ugliest parts of you, but it also allows you to sweep away the cobwebs, the ick and mud and dirt that's built up over years. It burns it all away until you have all these bare bones and you're cold at first until she wraps that blanket around your shoulders, feeds you the blood of your enemies and gets you whole again. Not strong. But whole. Because to survive this far you're strong already.
Now, for some of y'all who may still be intimidated I get it. So I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. The Morrigan? Like most deities have quite the sense of humor. You have to to deal with death. However she can be. What's the word. Disciplined? Which she can expect from you. It looks different for everyone but what happened with me was that I studied her every day almost. Her myths. Her associations. That was part of my devotion. And I enjoyed it a lot honestly. You don't have to be anything in particular to worship her either. She takes you in, and tears you down. But. BUT. She does build you right back up.
And discipline can look like different things. It can be small things, building up the habit of being there with her. Being present and aware which is hard for me personally because of cognitive issues, but the effort is always appreciated.
She'll love you enough to support you when you feel like you can't go on. And I think I want that to be y'alls main takeaway from here. Yes she is tough and commanding. But she cares. Deeply in fact.
There it is. Theres my Ted Talk
So, I have a poll for y'all. What deities intimidate you, or seem too scary to work with? I'll post a few options ive heard but if y'all have any others feel free to post a reply and ill put out some posts about them for y'all with information.
After all knowing something can help with intimidation.
Pick a deity
Hades
Persephone
The Morrigan
Anubis
Hel
Other
So I just heard something rather disturbing.
Who is gatekeeping deities in helpol Do people have that much hubris to assume a god or goddess would snub a practioner or devotee for lack of experience? I want y'all to listen real good here.
I dont speak for the gods. But I have my own experiences to go by.
For one if y'all are gonna do something that stupid you better be tough because hubris is one of the few things that can get your ass kicked by the gods. (From the stories ive read).
For two let them beginners find their way. Its not up to you to decide where their path goes. Some people need the embrace of what y'all assholes like to call a darker "god" or "goddess". I call bullshit. There is no dark or light. There is duality. There is the cycle of life and death and rebirth. They are entwined so deeply we may never fully grasp it.
For third Beyond the simplest of guidelines their is no reason to be saying all this "oh this deity is too advamced". Nah.
Some people aren't ready for the deity that's trying to reach for them and yknow what? Unless someone's getting hurt thats between the deity and the oractioner. Leave it be.
Y'all have no idea how comforting some of these supposedly advanced deities are. How kind they are to newcomers. How well they help you learn. The first goddess i ever worshipped was Persephone. She helped me break free of so many things despite the fact i was a shit worshipper. Held me up behind the scenes for so long and I am so damn grateful.
So I'm gonna do something about it. To whoever wants information about a god or goddess from the hellenic pantheon hit me up. I'll see what information I can gather. I'll start making posts about the deities people seem to think are too scary for beginners.
This is the beginning
fuck hussle culture, the toad to success is to sleep well, eat well and have fun

Reblog the Toad of Success to sleep well, eat well, and have fun
This is Money Snake. She only appears every 312 years.
If you reblog her picture within the next twenty-five seconds you will have good luck and fortune for the rest of your life.
I reblogged her late last year and my 2024 has been very satisfying work-wise and (secure enough to not stress out) money-wise so far. Money Snake is wise and good.
Writing Letters to the God's
So I've been writing letters to some of the Greek gods and let me tell y'all this is an eye opener. Like words have come out of me that I didn't know I had.
With Hestia "The home is ever changing, but the hearth remains the same. You can draw people in with your light, and they may rest there awhile. They may leave. They may stay. You won't know till it happens and sometimes it wont be okay for awhile. It's a part of it. "
With Artemis "Will the moon take my voice, cradle it like so many before me? I wonder. "
These are the ones I wanted to share even though I have more. I hope these help someone.
