Your nose is buried in psychology books and notes when your pager goes off
‘PSYCH CONSULT, EMERGENCY DEPT’
You slide it back into your pocket and make your way to the elevators, pressing the down arrow to take you to the pitt.
As a psych floor nurse, you accompany the psychiatric team whenever there’s a consult, whether that's during it or finishing it up. When you’re not on the move to consults, you’re tending to the patients already on the psychiatric unit floor or studying for class.
You’re in the final year of your Master’s of Arts in Psychology. As much as you love nursing, you’ve always had a passion for wanting to help people in the realm of counseling. Between your nursing job and volunteer clinical hours, you’re almost to the finish line. Of course you wouldn’t have been able to do it all without the support of your husband Brendon and your Pitt family.
Speaking of Brendon, you hadn’t seen him all day. Not even in passing.
He must be slammed with surgeries and consults.
‘I’ll text him after this consult’ you think as the elevator doors open up to the emergency department.
“Mrs. Park, it’s so good to see your gorgeous face!”
You smile wide as you approach the nurses station.
“It’s always good to see you too Dana. Where’s this consult that I’ve been summoned to?”
She nods her head towards the left “Room 4. Your boss already swung by so, just need you to go over the paperwork with em, administer some meds and then we’ll get them sent up to you guys.”
You pat her arm as you walk away “Thanks D, you’re the best!”
Walking into Room 4 you pick up the chart.
“Good afternoon…” you glance down for a name “James. I’m nurse Park and I’ll be getting you ready to head upstairs in a little bit, okay?”
James nods his head with a calm neutral expression.
“Alright, so… I see you have some medicine you normally take. Unfortunately I don’t have them in pill form so I’ll just push the liquid version through the IV today.”
You take a syringe and pull from the first bottle of medicine that the chart lists he needs.
“It may sting at first but y–”
Your back is slightly turned to James so you don’t see him move. And you don't expect it when he wraps his arm around your neck, putting you in a chokehold.
The sudden movement makes you drop the syringe and immediately try to pull his arm away but he’s got a strong grip on you.
“J-Ja-ames. Pl-ea-see.” you struggle to speak
Struggling, you manage to pull him to the floor with you and throw him off balance. You both crash into the instrument table, causing a loud crash as its contents hit the floor.
James then releases you but only to hover over you, trying to choke you with both hands.
You both struggle against each other until you see arms wrap around him and he’s quickly pulled off of you.
Your adrenaline is still pumping, your heart racing as you close your eyes for a minute now that the immediate danger is gone.
“Hey kid, don’t close your eyes. Look at me Park!” a voice says while lightly tapping your cheek.
You look up and see Jack kneeling beside you.
“J-Jack?” you wheeze out, voice rough from the chokehold.
“Shhh kid, I gotcha.” he helps you sit up and gently examines your neck. “You’re gonna have a hell of a bruise. Want me to get Brend–”
“No. No, don’t do that.” you insist.
Jack looks at you with a raised eyebrow “Are you sure? You know he’ll be down here in a breath at the mere mention of you.”
You shake your head as you touch your throat.
“Gentle, Park” he warns as he grabs your hand lightly.
“Yeah, no. It's fine Jack. I’ll tell him later.”
He lets out a sigh “Okay kid. Let’s get you some ice and back up to psych.”
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Before you know it you’re back on the psych floor studying again to hopefully make the last few hours of your shift pass faster.
Your neck and throat ache from the earlier altercation.
Only an hour passes before you hear the sound of shoes hitting the floor at what seems to be a jog. You already know who it is. It was only a matter of time.
Looks like Brendon found out.
You look up as his large frame appears in the doorway of the staff desk area as his chest heaves from how fast he was moving.
He silently looks over you from where he is and moves to kneel in front of your chair.
“Bren look, I–” your words are stopped short by him gently pushing your chin up and examining your already bruising neck.
He ever so carefully runs his fingers across the tender skin and places a gentle kiss right at your jawline.
After a few minutes of charged silence he speaks.
“Care to tell me why I had to find out from Abbot that my wife got choked out by a patient almost two hours ago and I wasn’t notified immediately?”
The words are direct but gentle in tone because as upset as he was with no one telling him and finding out that someone laid hands on you, he'd never raise his voice at you.
You cup his face as you lean your forehead against his as he stays kneeling.
“You were working, baby. And I'm okay. Psych is always a bit more risky with patients.”
He huffs and grabs your waist gently pulling you and the rolling chair a little closer.
“I’m never too busy for you, sweetheart. You and everyone in this building know that. If something is happening with you, good or bad, I want to know. I want someone to bother me when it's about you. Work can wait.”
Oh this man.
Your heart swoons at his words.
“I love you, Bren” you kiss him briefly “so damn much.”
He pecks your lips with a smile “Love you more.”
“I’m about to head out in a few minutes," he says as he stands up "What do you want for dinner? I’ll go home and make it and then come pick you up in a few hours when your shift is done.”
“Bren, that’s too much.” you groan dramatically.
He scoffs with a smile, shaking his head.
“Text me what you want in the next ten minutes so I can stop by the store on my way home. See you in a bit, sweetheart.” he winks.
“Bye Bren” you say before blowing him a kiss.
He catches it and holds it to his heart with a smirk as he backs out of the room, leaving you alone.
You shake your head in amusement as you turn back to your textbook
hiiii 😚😚😚😚 i have this idea that Jack and reader are dating but lately reader has been acting kind of strange and Jack thinks she’s cheating on him and it all peaks when after their FUN time she immediately gets to her phone, but clearly it’s not what he thinks and she’s not cheating…I ADORE ANGST WITH HAPPY ENDINGS
Jack watches you from the living room as you make lunch.
You’ve made the last four years of his life nothing short of amazing. He really couldn’t imagine a day without you so he guaranteed a forever with you.
He can see the engagement ring from where he is. The look on your face when he got on one knee was something he’ll remember for a lifetime.
It felt like a while ago even though it had only been two months.
He sighs as he turns back to the tv.
So, what’s changed for you in that short period of time?
Over the last 3 weeks you’ve been acting weird.
You’re on your phone a lot more and keeping your distance when you do. Almost as if you’re hiding something from him.
He hates to even think about it but are you seeing someone else? What is it?
The thought makes him sick at the idea of not only you leaving him but that you’d do something like that to him.
Jack decides to not think the worst just yet.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
The next day you’re on your laptop sitting on the floor with your back against the couch.
Jack walks in the front door from a grocery run.
“Hey sweetheart.” he greets as he passes you to the kitchen.
“Hey baby,” you lean your head back to try and look at him “Did you find everyhtng on the list?”
He smiles as he empties the bags
“Sure did honey.”
You smile back before looking on your laptop again.
Once he puts everything away Jack walks over and sits on the couch behind you, your back leaning against his legs.
He leans his head on top of yours, hands on your shoulders.
“Whatcha doing down here sweetheart”
You lift the laptop a little so he can see better.
“You said to look at houses so we could hopefully get one before the wedding next year. Well, I finally got the time and I really like this one.”
He looks at the one you’re pointing to.
“It’s got the in-home gym you like, this gorgeous sunroom, the high ceiling design in the living room, fenced in front and back yard..”
He scrunches his eyes as he reads the descriptions.
“Sweetheart, there’s five bedrooms. We don’t need all of that space.”
You grab one of his hands over your shoulder and cuddle back against him.
“Well,” you start “There’s a room for us, one or two for whatever we want, and then I was thinking…one or two for some mini Abbots.”
Jack’s heart feels like it could burst with love and joy.
He leans forward and wraps his arms around you.
“Mini Abbots, huh?”
You can feel his smile as he kisses your cheek.
“Just a few.” you say while playing with his hand.
“I’d love that sweetheart.”
He really meant it too.
Jack would love to have kids with you.
This also gave him relief after the past few weeks.
You wouldn’t be seeing someone else if you were picking a house and talking about kids with him, right?
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
A few days later is when things come to a head.
You and Jack had come back from a date night and ended up tangled in the sheets to end an amazing night.
You have your head on his chest as you both catch your breath.
“Fuck..” you get out between breaths
He has one arm wrapped around you and the other holding your leg across his hip.
“I’ll take that as high praise sweetheart.” he laughs
You pat his chest teasingly “Yeah, you’ve still got it old man.”
“You little shit,” he grins and tickles your sides “I more than still have it by the way you were scr–”
His words are interrupted by your phone chiming with a notification.
You get up and straddle his waist to lean over him, looking at your phone.
With you on top of him Jack can't see your phone from his position.
“What is it babe?” he tries leaning up to look over.
You lay a hand on his chest as you quickly type something.
“I uh, nothing J. Just an email from work.”
His heart races. He has a feeling it isn’t work and now the relief he had felt a couple days ago is gone.
Now he’s afraid it's true.
You’re seeing someone else.
He’s losing you.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Jack didn’t confront you right away.
He sat on the idea and his feelings for a few days. The longer he sat on it, the quicker it turned from feeling only upset to adding in anger.
It’s Saturday, Jack’s day off, when he decides he's going to say something.
You left the house early to run some errands but he's convinced that ‘errands’ is the one you’re seeing behind his back.
It’s around 11 a.m. when you come back with a smile on your face.
“Hey babe!” echoes in the kitchen as you set some bags down.
Jack can’t even bring himself to greet you back.
Grabbing a small box from your bag, you listen for him.
You're confused at the silence and find him standing in the living room with his arms crossed and a frown on his face.
“J, is everything okay?” you ask hesitantly
He shakes his head as he huffs “How long?”
What?
“How long what, Jack?”
He lets out a small laugh that lacks any humor.
“Don’t play fucking dumb with me.”
The words feel like a physical blow, making you step back slightly.
What the hell is wrong with him?
“I-I’m a little lost here Jack. I’m not playing anything.”
“Okay, I'll humor you. Who the fuck have you been cheating on me with huh?”
Your eyes widen at the accusation.
“Jack, I would never do that to you or anyone. Where is this co–”
“You’re still playing dumb!”
You can see the anger roll through him as he grips his hair tight and then run his hands over his face.
Tears start to fill your eyes
You’re lost for words.
You said yes to marrying him. You guys are buying a house soon. You said you wanted kids with him.
So why would you ever look in anyone else’s direction?
“You could just admit it instead of acting oblivious. You’ve been on your phone nonstop the last month, hiding it from me, lying to me. We were literally having sex one minute and then after you’re answering the phone, to whom I assume is that jackass.”
Your chest is so full of emotion and hurt at his words.
“Jack, I” you take a breath as the tears start falling “I’m not ch–”
He interrupts you “Why not just let me go and then fuck around?! Why d–”
“Jack” you try to butt in but he keeps rambling on.
“I asked you to marry me for god's sake!”
“Jack!” you try a little louder
“I wanted forever with y–”
“JACK!”
He turns to face you “WHAT?”
He sees you holding a small box about the size of a softball.
You silently hold it out to him.
He eyes it as if it’s a ridiculous offer “What’s this?”
“Just open it…” you say in a whisper, tears still falling.
Jack takes it hesitantly and lifts the lid off. His eyes widen as all the air leaves his lungs.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
You and Jack had gone to a festival event in Philadelphia for a week several months ago.
Somehow during the activities and chaos down there, his dog tags had gone missing. He couldn’t remember where he had sat them or if the chain broke and they fell, or what could’ve happened.
You both eventually had to go home without the tags, having searched all over for them.
“𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘑, 𝘸𝘦'𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.”
On the drive back to Pittsburgh you posted a picture of Jack’s tags from a selfie you took with him weeks ago on all the social media you had. You asked that if anyone found them to contact your number or social media.
Sadly several months had passed and no one had responded to your posts.
Jack was upset with the outcome but tried to not let it show how much.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
He takes a deep breath as guilt floods his chest.
“My…my dog tags. Wh-Where did you find them?”
How could he have said all these things and accused you of cheating when you did this for him?
You sniffle as you wring your fingers.
“Some guy had posted them in a facebook group to sell and I recognized them. So I sent him a message and told him what happened and he said he’d meet me to return them. He, uh, had been out of the state so we had been messaging to set a meetup to get the tags. I wanted to surprise you…”
Jack’s heart fills with so much more love for you but sinks at the same time with how he handled things.
“Sweetheart, I-I can’t begin to say how sor-”
You wave a hand gently to stop him.
“It’s okay J. I’m realizing how it all must have looked and how that made you feel. So, I’m sorry for that but do you realize how much I love you? Do you understand that?”
He nods because he does know. He’s never doubted your love before because you gave more than anyone ever did.
How could he do this to you and you’re still so understanding of him and his feelings?
“I’m so sorry sweetheart, I know you love me, more than I deserve. I’m so fucking sorry…” a few tears slip down his cheek and you’re quick to move in front of him and wipe them away.
“Hey, J, it’s okay. We’re okay. Yeah your words hurt but I get it. And I love you. I forgive you baby.” you kiss him briefly.
His body trembles on the verge of sobs.
“I-I don’t d-deserve you.” he gets out between breaths.
You chuckle a little as you rub his back.
“Baby, you deserve everything. And I already agreed to marry you so you’re not getting rid of me that easily.”
You hear him laugh a little through his tears.
Can you do park reader who lives in his apartment building and has guide dog for whatever reason you want and the dog comes to his door when reader falls in the hallway thanks love your stories
You turn to your left and see your next-door neighbor.
Brendon Park.
He was stupidly handsome and such a nice guy.
You always see him at different times of the day because he’s a surgeon down the road at ptmc. It’s also a nice perk to live next door to a doctor, which he insisted you knock if you ever need him day or night.
“Hey Bren, going out or just getting back?”
He smiles as he leans against his door “Just getting back. A long nap is calling my name. Hopefully I’m up by lunch. Where are you and Meesh headed?”
Meesh, a nickname for Misha, is a 4 year old golden retriever. He’s also your service dog of almost three years now.
You had been diagnosed with POTS as a teenager and over the years it had gotten a little more intense. This had led to you passing out while out by yourself one day and had hit your head. Luckily a passerby called EMS and you were taken to the hospital and treated.
It happened more frequently after that and your parents decided a service dog was non-negotiable since you lived alone.
You’ve lived next to Brendon for about a year now and even though he’s a doctor, you’ve never told him of your condition. You just didn’t want to seem incapable or weak around him.
Obviously he knew you had some sort of medical condition as you had Misha but he’d never ask unless you were to bring it up first.
“We’re headed to the new farmer’s market downtown. I’ve heard good things and I've been dying to check it out.” you laugh
“Oooo there's a jam stand there that sells raspberry peach jam, here–” he pulls $40 from his wallet “Could you grab me two jars? I’ve not been able to go with my schedule lately.”
You shake your head with a smile “Bren, I’ll get them. You don’t have to pay me.”
He raises an eyebrow and holds the money out.
“Uh uh, take this and keep the rest for the troubles.”
You tap your chin dramatically “How about I’ll take it when I bring the jams back, fair deal?”
He tilts his head with a chuckle.
“You drive a hard bargain woman but okay, when you get back.”
You wave to him as you walk Meesh to the elevator.
Brendon watches you go even after the elevator doors close.
He bites his lip at the thought of seeing you again later.
Shaking his head he finally unlocks his door and walks in.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
After a whole day in the hot Pittsburgh heat, you’re finally making your way back to the apartment building.
You hold your tote bag on your shoulder, the two jars of jam securely tucked in it.
As you walk towards the elevator you notice a sign on the doors
‘Elevators out of service until tomorrow.”
“Fuck” you say quietly.
Guess you’ll be taking the stairs.
You’re on the sixth floor so it’s not terrible but the trek up there still won’t be easy.
After a few minutes you realize the air conditioning isn’t great in the stairwell and you’re starting to sweat a lot.
You end up stopping on the fourth floor to sit down for a few minutes.
You’re pretty out of breath and start to feel a little dizzy.
Just two more floors.
When you go to stand up Meesh is at your side and is trying to lay on your lap, keeping you sitting.
You then realize he’s alerting you to your fast heart rate. A potential episode starting.
Normally this is when you’d stay seated and rest a bit but you don’t. Gently you pet him while trying to catch your breath.
“I-It’s okay Meesh. Just t-two more and I’ll sit w-when we’re upstairs.”
You knew better than to ignore him and not immediately take it easy but you were almost home.
Meesh whines a little as he desperately tries to get you to stay sitting but you get up anyway and continue up the stairs.
Finally you’re only a set of stairs away from the sixth floor door. As you go to take a step, it feels like the ground is shifting. Your movements feel sluggish as you take another step.
Shit. I need to sit right now.
Your hands shake as you try to grab your phone from your purse. Meesh is back at your side nudging you and again trying to get you to sit.
Without looking you take another step but the dizziness throws you off balance, sending you tumbling down the few stairs to the platform below.
Your bag hits the ground, scattering all your belongings somewhere you can’t see.
“M-Meeshhh” you try to call for him. He looks torn to find something to help and staying to help comfort you.
Then in a split second he’s racing up the stairs to the hallway door. The inside of the door is one you push to open from both sides.
Luckily, in training Meesh, he had been taught how to open a few different types of door handles for retrieving water, medicines, and other things.
It doesn’t take long for him to figure this one out and as soon as it starts to open he’s squeezing through the opening and runs to your apartment door.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Brendon’s enjoying his post-shift nap when a noise pulls him from his sleep.
He looks up from the couch and listens quietly.
There’s a scratching sound.
Are there rats in the walls?
He goes to lay back down when he hears whining.
“What the f—“
Then there’s a loud bark that sounds close by.
He then moves from the couch and towards the front door.
Cracking it open he sees golden fur by your door.
Brendon opens the door wider and sees Meesh scratching at your door.
“Hey Meesh!” he stays where he is since he’s well aware to not touch working dogs.
Speaking of working, where were you?
He walks out further and doesn’t see you but he notices Meesh’s frantic behavior.
“Where’s your mommy buddy?”
Meesh runs to Brendon and frantically paws at Brendon and then runs down to the door leading to the stairwell.
Brendon’s eyebrows furrow as he observes the dog's behavior.
Then it hits him.
Shit.
In a training seminar he was taught that if a service dog is alone, to follow them. That some dogs were trained to find help if the handler was injured or suffering a medical emergency.
You could be in trouble.
He immediately runs to where Meesh is and pushes the door open.
Peering down the stairs, his heart stops.
You’re at the bottom of the stairs on your side looking like you passed out. Your stuff is everywhere and Meesh is trying to comfort you and lay on your chest.
“Sweetheart, hey!” He yells as he makes his way to you quickly.
He notices your labored breathing and that your eyes are barely open.
“Hey sweet girl, what happened? Are you okay?”
He gently feels around your head and takes note of a bump on the side where you likely hit your head.
“B-Bren?” you slur out a little
His hand engulfs your face as he looks you over.
“It’s okay sweetheart, we’re gonna head to ptmc right now.”
You shake your head as you try to sit up.
“Sorry baby you can’t get up. Just stay still.”
“No Bren,” you mumble “no ambulance.”
He grabs your attention, looking into your eyes.
“Hey, hey I know but you’re hurt. So either the ambulance takes you or I do.”
You squint your eyes at the pounding headache and try to curl into him “Take me please.”
——
Brendon had quickly gotten his keys and then grabbed you and Meesh, making his way to ptmc.
He wished he had a picture of Dana’s face when he had come in with you in his arms and a dog glued to your side.
The three of you were a sight to see amongst his friends and colleagues.
Quickly Robby had been called down to your room to assess you.
Brendon stayed glued to your side with your hand in his as they evaluated you, taking in all the information Robby talked about.
You had POTS?
Fuck, he wish you would’ve told him so he could’ve helped better.
—--
About an hour later you were more coherent and able to register where you were.
“Bren?” you whisper as you see him to the side of you.
Your voice gets his attention and he looks over, his hand immediately stroking the side of your face gently.
“Hey sweetheart, you feelin better?”
You take a mental inventory of how you’re feeling.
“Yeah,” you nod “what hap—Meesh! Where is h-“
Brendon hushes you softly “He’s right here.”
He motions towards the dog that’s been attached to him and head in his lap since you guys arrived.
You nod shaky as you try to calm your racing heart.
“You had an episode, POTS. Guess you already knew but they think it was likely brought on by the heat and the exertion from climbing the stairs.”
You start to recall the events in your head.
“Yeah I-I remember it. Meesh alerted to the symptoms but I just wanted to make it to the apartment first. I should’ve listened to him. I’m sorry to drag you into all of this.”
Brendon squeezes your hand “Hey it’s okay. I’m glad I was home to help. But I’m gonna give you my number and next time the elevator is out or you don’t feel good, you use it and call me. I don’t care if I’m asleep or not home. You call me and I’ll come get you, okay?”
You shake your head “Bren, I can’t d-“
“Promise me sweetheart?” his face pleading with you.
You contemplate it and then nod, squeezing his hand.
“Okay, I promise “
He brings your hand to his mouth and places a kiss there.
“Perfect.”
You look around “Where’s my bag?”
Brendo turns and takes it off the back of his chair.
“I gathered what I saw on the stairs earlier but if something’s missing, tell me and I’ll go back and look for it baby.”
Rummaging through the bag you pull out what you were looking for, holding them out to him.
“You really got them?” his grin gets wider as he carefully takes the jars of raspberry peach jam from you.

I had the realization that a previous request i sent would probably come off as really rude, and im so sorry! I made it really late, but thats no excuse!
Your writing it honestly great, and I was wondering if you could write a story about a ED nurse reader who Park has a crush on, but the reader is engaged, so he never bothered acting on it, or telling a soul.
But one day, he finds out she single, they broke up ages ago, and shes thinking about doing online dating, only for Dr. Park to slide in like, forget that, date me!
Sadly, you weren’t available, if the engagement ring not from him unfortunately you were wearing wasn’t a dead giveaway.
But today you’re not yourself.
Your usually smiley face is in a frown and he could’ve sworn he saw you wipe your eyes a few times.
If you were his he’d make sure to hold you close and wipe your tears for you.
But all he can do is watch from a distance and hope you’re okay.
——
Brendon makes his way through the pitt towards Dana to ask her some charting questions when a conversation catches his attention.
“Yeah, she told me and Samira that he not only was a cheating bastard but that he also called off the engagement and blamed her for it.”
Brendon peers around the corner where he sees Trinity who is filling Dennis in on your recent life events.
“Damn” Dennis says with his eyes wide “He fumbles one of the hottest nurses and then makes her the problem? Yeah, definitely a bastard.”
Trinity nods her head rapidly “I feel so bad. She’s the sweetest person and deserves the man of her dreams which clearly wasn’t that fucking dickhead.”
Brendon moves back behind the hallway corner now armed with this new information. He definitely has a chance now.
He goes to walk away when he accidentally bumps into you.
“Shit! Sorry Brendon” you apologize as you use his arm to steady yourself.
His hand had instinctively gone to your waist to help keep you upright.
“No worries but be careful, I would hate to see you break something and end up in my O.R.” he chuckles as his hand slips from your side.
You playfully roll your eyes “Oh Brendon, I think I’d be your most entertaining client if that did hap–”
Brendon gives you his full attention as he takes in every word you say, no matter how simple.
As he’s listening, the movement of your hand on his bicep catches his attention.
Your engagement ring.
It's gone.
Seems like Santos and Whitaker were right.
If that was the case, he’d have to make his move soon enough before someone comes along and gets your attention first.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
It’s been a month since Brendon saw you without an engagement ring. In that time he had mulled over ideas of how he could ask you out.
He had waited a month to give you time to process things and hopefully be willing to open up your heart again.
He’s leaning on the desk counter lost in thought about you, just writing on a sticky note when a hand lands close on the counter.
The action startles him slightly and he quickly covers the note as he looks up and his eyes meet yours.
“Hey Bren!” you greet him with a smile “Whatcha up to?”
He can feel his face blush a little hoping you didn’t see the note.
“Hey sweetheart, just enjoying some downtime before the next string of consults.”
Sweetheart? Shit.
He didn’t even mean to use that term of endearment. It had just slipped out.
It obviously doesn’t bother you, if anything your smile grows a little bigger.
He keeps talking to avoid the slip up which he meant for sure.
“How bout you? Anything new with you?”
You pull your phone out as you lean your arms across from him.
“Nothing much. I did recently decide to jump back into the dating scene.
Brendon’s heart skips a beat.
No. No, you can’t.
He hasn’t even attempted to ask you out yet.
“Trinity and Samira suggested Tinder or Hinge. I’m not so sure though, it’s pretty intimidating. Who even wants the girl who couldn’t keep her fiancee happy, right?”
You try to joke and make light of the events from last month.
It breaks his heart to hear you think of yourself that way.
Luckily, the chance to express his feelings has presented itself and he can’t wait another minute if he doesn’t want to lose you to a dating app.
“Well, let’s think of it this way” he says
“You could make an account and meet a bunch of useless guys or…” he takes your phone and lays it face down to get your full attention
“You could give a real good guy a chance. Maybe one who’s a pretty good ortho surgeon. One that really fucking likes you. But what do I know, I just feel you should have some choices.”
Your jaw drops slightly at his words.
Was the Brendon Park confessing his feelings for you?
One of the hottest guys ever, wanted you?
You lean forward a bit with a playful smirk “Okay sooo, if I gave this alleged ortho guy a chance, where do you think he'd take me on our first date?”
Brendon steps a bit closer to you “I think he'd prefer to keep that a surprise but for your peace of mind I think he’d take you to coffee and would enjoy hearing you talk about any and every thing, he'd love that actually. Maybe take a stroll through downtown Pittsburgh for a bit. Followed by lunch at a surprise location. Then he’d take you home and hope he’d get lucky with a second date. Maybe a kiss too? If not then that's okay, he’s very patient and would hate to mess everything up.”
You stare at him, completely smitten with a damn near permanent smile.
“I don't think he could mess things up even if he tried. The date sounds phenomenal too. Seems like a real gentleman. Hopeless romantic too.”
Brendon leans closer to you, his elbows on the counter “Only for you sweetheart.”
You bite your lip as your face heats up.
“Flattery will get you everywhere Park.”
He steps closer and hesitantly grabs one of your hands.
“Good thing the only place I want to be is with you.”
You cover your face with your other hand trying to hide the giddiness you feel.
“So, what do you say, gorgeous?” he asks “Give an old man a chance?”
You playfully push his chest as you laugh.
“You’re hardly old Bendon but yes, I’d love to go out with you.”
He gently squeezes your hand “Meet me out front after your shift and I’ll walk you out.”
“I’ll be there Park.” you wave as he walks backwards towards the elevators.
“Better be!” he yells as he disappears around the corner.
You smile to yourself as you go to walk away but something catches your eye.
It’s a post-it note.
‘ He must’ve forgotten it ’ you think
Picking it up, you turn it over and pause at the words.
Your name is written at the top with some doodles and below, it reads:
‘You’re so damn pretty’
You hold it against your chest and the smile never leaves your face.
Oh Brendon… I have a feeling you’re going to be a good one.
Hiiii!! 💗 Can I request a Brendon Park where it’s the day he’s going to propose, but he’s so nervous that he accidentally acts really quiet and distant all day. Then, just a few minutes before he’s about to propose, reader asks if he’s mad at her because she thinks she did something wrong. He brushes it off, tells her everything’s fine, and then goes through with the proposal a few minutes later please!! 🥹
Brendon stares at his reflection as he gets ready.
His mind is thinking of the engagement ring he has hidden deep in your shared closet.
The one you'll hopefully be wearing by the end of the night.
He’s nervous as he runs through how he wants it to go in his head.
You and him.
The location he spent weeks deciding on.
Your (hopefully good) reaction
Probably some tears from himself.
And the apartment being set up for when you guys get back tonight.
Logically things were going to be fine but he couldn’t shake the nervousness that had been sitting since yesterday.
You were his world.
The love of his life
This was going to mean everything.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
You prop your head on your hand as you watch Brendon from the nurses station.
Something’s up with him.
This morning he barely said a word to you besides ‘good morning’ and a brief ‘see you later’ before you both parted ways for your shifts earlier.
He’s usually decently chatty with you and checking in throughout the day either by text or coming down to the pitt to find you.
But today? He’s kept his distance. There’s been a smile or two if you happened to catch his gaze but otherwise he’s been pretty reserved.
Is he mad at me?
Did I do something wrong?
Maybe it's a bad day?
You let out a breath as you pick up another chart.
Tonight you were having a surprise date night and while you were excited for what he had planned, you still worried about him.
—--
Later after work you had gotten ready for the date.
You had picked out a dress you had reserved for nicer dates and paired it with wedged heels. Your hair was in a new style you had seen online and you were very proud of how it turned out.
Lastly you had put in some medium sized hoops that had gorgeous crystals lining the outside of them. They matched your bracelet along with a few rings you slid on at the last minute.
They shine in the golden rays of the sunset that’s beginning as you walk hand in hand with Brendon.
The restaurant he chose was a beautiful steakhouse along the waterfront where you both ate to your heart’s content.
His demeanor was a drastic change from earlier today as he was very affectionate tonight and looked happy as he talked all through dinner.
You had been glad for the change since you hate to see him upset.
Then things reverted back after dinner.
He got quiet again but still held your hand as you both walked along the path beside the river, overlooking the city.
“Bren?” you tug on his hand gently
He turns his head to look at you and mumbles a ‘Hmm”.
“Is everything okay? What’s bothering you? Did I do something wrong? Are you mad at m–”
“No, sweetheart. Everything’s fine.” he says with a half smile.
He leads you over to a part of the path that has a great view near the river.
“Are you sure?”
Your question is met with silence as he stares across the water.
“Bren?”
He looks up and rocks back and forth on his heels a bit.
“Baby,” you grab his hand.
“Talk to me. What’s wrong?”
You see his eyes start to water as he grabs your other hand.
“I’m so nervous. I uh,” He cracks a smile as a tear falls.
“I never thought in a million years I’d be lucky enough to find someone who would not only love me so fully but also accept me for me. Loving me despite my flaws.”
He pulls your hands against his chest and you feel how fast his heart is racing.
“Then I met you, my gorgeous, funny, and perfect girl. You’re everything I didn’t think I deserved or think I would find. And I’m grateful every day that when I choose you, you choose me too. When I think of my future, all I see is you in every part of it. I want you there for every part of it.”
Brendon wipes a tear from your face as it falls.
You hadn’t even realized you started crying.
“I love you so damn much. I love you in a way words will never fully convey.”
He takes a deep breath and falls to one knee, pulling a small black box from his pocket.
“I don’t want to do this life without you, sweetheart. Not a single day. So…. will you make my life complete and marry me?”
Brendon opens the box and you see the most beautiful ring nestled inside.
No way no way no way.
“Y-Yes. Of course I’ll marry you Bren.” Your voice trembles as tears fall but an unshakeable smile never leaves your face.
“Thank god” He mumbles as he gets up and kisses you like it’s the last time he ever will.
When he pulls away he leans his forehead against yours.
Gently, he slips the ring on your finger and kisses your hand as he holds it.
You attempt to wipe tears from your eyes as you stare at the ring.
“Is this why you were so off today, Bren?” you ask
His face turns a little red as he nods.
“I just wanted everything to go right and I… I know you love me but some small part of me was scared of you saying no.”
Your hand cradles his face, the stubble grazing your fingers.
“Brendon Park, I love you more than life itself. I’d say yes to you in every lifetime. Especially this one. And this was perfect, everything about it. It was so you, very thoughtful and special. It was everything.”
He kisses the palm of your hand.
“You deserve it all and more. Now let’s go celebrate at home.” he smirks.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Neither of you can wipe the smiles of your faces on the drive back to the apartment.
Brendon lets you in the door first and as he follows behind you he flips the lights on.
Your eyes are wide as you take in the scene.
There’s streamers and balloons everywhere.
The floor, the counters, the ceiling, etc.
Some of the ones near the ceiling have photos of you both over the years attached to the strings.
You hold one gently and can’t help but smile at the words written at the bottom.
‘ The night I fell in love with you ♡ ‘
Then you look up and see the big sign hanging across the room
‘𝘊𝘖𝘕𝘎𝘙𝘈𝘛𝘚 𝘠𝘖𝘜 𝘊𝘙𝘈𝘡𝘠 𝘒𝘐𝘋𝘚’
You turn to Brendon “Who’d you get to do all of this?”
“Garcia and Santos” he says with a smile as he looks around at everything.
You walk up behind him and hug his waist.
“I love it, Bren.”
His arms hold on yours “Well, there’s one more thing.”
He gently untangles himself from you and makes his way to the fridge.
There’s a white box that he pulls out and sets on the island counter in front of you.
He opens it and your jaw drops.
It’s a heart cake that says ‘engaged’ in gorgeous black cursive.
“Bren this is so cute, oh my god! Wait? So your friend’s birthday, that isn’t this week?”
To keep you from opening the cake box the last 2 days he had convinced you it was a surprise cake for a friend so that you would lose interest in it .
“No baby,” he chuckles “just had to make sure you didn’t sneak a peek.”
You grab forks and hand him one.
“You were that sure I’d say yes, huh? What would you have done if I said no?” you grin teasingly
Brendon looks at you with a smile and raised eyebrow.
It’s another day in the pitt for Jack. Back to back traumas, patient complaints, chaos and much more.
So when there was down time, people often used the lulls to not only catch up on other tasks but also gossip.
Todays’ topic and usually a topic brought up every day was that of love lives.
It was one that Jack didn’t participate in or even indulge in listening to.
It hurt to hear how others had people in their lives to love, be around, or go home to and he didn’t.
He used to but not anymore.
The staff knew Jack had a great love of his life and that now he didn’t.
No one knew who she was except Robby.
No one knew if she had been his fling, girlfriend, or wife.
Or if she was even alive.
They just knew to not bring it up.
—--
It’s halfway through his shift when Jack makes his way towards the nurse’s station. His nose is buried in a chart examining information when he hears a familiar voice.
“Hi, I need help looking for someone.”
He feels like he can’t breathe.
It can’t be you.
It can’t.
“Can I get a name for this person?” Dana asks
He holds his breath.
“Jack. Jack Abbot. I’m not sure if he still works here but I thought I'd try.”
You’re here for him?
But why?
He had ruined things.
He broke your heart.
He’s gotta find Robby and tell him you’re here but before he can sneak away he's stopped by one word.
“Jack?”
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
“Jack?”
Your heart races as you say his name.
The name of someone you hadn’t seen in five years but someone who you could never forget.
You both had once been joined at the hip.
Hopelessly and completely in love.
Engaged.
Then it all changed.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌*𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬*﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
You stand in the kitchen as Jack paces, clothes disheveled and hands gripping his sweaty grey curls.
His mind is racing over the fact he’s hurting you by not getting help. By letting his unresolved trauma fester until it explodes with you in the crossfire.
It cant keep going on like this.
He can’t keep seeing you cry and watch your heart break over him.
What he’s going to do next is going to break you both but he can’t let his words and actions continue to hurt you.
“𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦.”
You look at him “𝘊𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵?”
He looks up as he gears up to say it.
“𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴.” he says as he point back and forth between you two.
You shake your head “𝘕𝘰. 𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘬, 𝘯𝘰. 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘥-𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵. 𝘋𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘑.”
You step forward to grab his hand but he takes a step back.
He walks up to you slowly and hesitantly pulls you into his chest.
Sobs wrack your body.
This can’t be it.
But unfortunately it is.
You both end up in bed one last time.
You don’t hear him as he packs a bag.
You don’t hear him as he kisses your forehead one last time with a quiet ‘i love you’.
And you don’t hear him as he leaves the apartment.
Sadly, you’ll never hear from him once over the next five years.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌*𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳*﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
He still looks the same as he did the last night you saw him. Soft eyes, grey curls, some stubble on his face, and just as handsome as ever.
“Hey.”
It’s all you can get out.
You didn’t know if he even worked here anymore. You were going to check and then keep trying elsewhere, hoping he hadn’t left Pittsburgh. Let alone the state .
He’s still staring at you in shock.
“Sweetheart…” he softly mutters
The endearment grips your heart.
You hadn’t heard his voice in so long.
“C-Can we talk?” you ask with hesitancy but hope.
He nods as he moves forward and places a hand on the small of your back and leads you to an empty room.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Jack hopes you don’t feel the tremble of his hand that guiding you.
He remembers the last time he ever saw you. He remembers that emotionally charged night. The one where he broke your heart.
After he left that night he crashed at Robby’s place and only went back to the apartment when he knew for sure you had moved out.
It took a about a year before he decided to try therapy. Thank god he did because things started feeling a little better and he was finally able to start processing his emotions and trauma.
He quickly realized you had only suggested this to help him and not make him feel inferior. That you loved him enough to bring it up.
And what did he do? He pushed you away.
The love of his life.
Jack never got over you. He regretted breaking off the engagement but was too ashamed to contact you.
So he waited.
After two years of therapy, two years of doing the work to take care of himself, he vowed that if he ever saw you again he’d get you back.
There wasn’t anyone else for him but you.
——-
He swallows hard as he pulls the curtain shut behind him.
You’re here.
Still the most gorgeous woman he’s ever seen. Even more gorgeous than that night if it was even possible.
He watches as you stand a few feet from him, wringing your fingers in your hands.
You always did that when you were nervous.
“You look good J.” you say with a small smile
He shakes his head lightly, hands in his pockets.
“You’re still gorgeous as ever, sweetheart.”
There’s a few moments of silence before he speaks again.
“I’ve missed you...” his voice breaks a little at the end.
“I missed you too Jack. So much.”
He takes a step closer.
“What are you doing here? I know I overheard you tell Dana you were looking for me.”
He watches you swallow hard.
“I uh, this might seem a little too late or dumb or… I don’t know. But Jack, I still love you.”
His heart feels like it skips a beat.
You love him? Still?
You don’t hate him for that night?
This was the opportunity he had waited years to have.
“Y-You do?” he asks nervously
Your head nods as you take a step forward and you grab one of his hands.
You pull your necklace from under you shirt and his eyes immediately see it.
It’s the engagement ring he gave you.
He immediately starts tearing up.
“I didn’t understand what you were going through. I know I’ll never truly know but I see that I didn’t handle things the right way back then. But I found people,”
You take a pause.
“People who could relate. To you and to me. They listened and they helped me learn how to be there for you.”
Jack’s heart races as he listens, trying to hold the tears back.
God he didn’t deserve you.
“I wanted to be ready to be there for you better before I found you again. I’m sorry it took so long.”
You look down and wring your hands again.
“I understand if it’s too late. I don’t know if you even have someone el—“
“No.” he interrupts you “There’s no one else. There’s no replacing you.”
Your heart beats faster at his words.
“I went to therapy.” he starts
“You were right. It’s what I needed and I was too angry to see it then. I wish I had seen it earlier . Saved us all of this. But I’ve been doing the work. I wanted to do better, be better if I ever got the chance to see you again. If that’s an option...”
Your hands gently hold the sides of his face.
“Jack Abbot, there’s never been anyone else for me. Never will be.”
A tear falls down his cheek as he leans close
His lip trembles as he gathers the words.
“Can you forgive me, sweetheart?” he whispers through tears.
“Will you still marry me?”
A few tears fall from your eyes as you let out a small laugh “Yes and yes but no take backs, Abbot.”
That one pulls a full smile from him
“Yeah, no take backs sweetheart.”
You lean in and kiss him hard. When you pull apart, a breath away, he hears you whisper
It’s been a slow day in the pitt with few major traumas and a lighter load of charts than normal. Due to this you decided to take your lunch break a little early.
A dramatic sigh sounds from across you at the breakroom table.
“Giiiiirl, I am ready to go.” Trinity moans as she mindlessly scrolls through her phone.
You smile a bit as you eat your sandwich.
“Like why didn’t we just skip medical school and do tiktoks all day, i swear”
Looking down you do your best to hold in your laugh before responding.
“Maybe because we’re too uncoordinated for that life and would end up in the pitt from a dumbass injury?”
Trinity gives you a blank stare before frowning “Ugh you’re right, sweets. We’d be ass.”
Suddenly her eyes widen as she looks at you.
That can only mean trouble.
“Trinity Santos if y-”
“Hear me out! I have an idea!” she pleas
You look at her with a raised eyebrow
“Okay” she starts “have you ever done a tiktok prank on your boy toy?”
You laugh as you roll your eyes.
“Trin, Jack is my fiancee, not my boy toy. But no I haven’t.”
She quickly moves to the seat beside you, leaning into your side with her phone in your face.
“This would be a good one to try on him. He’s so whipped by you, it’s perfect.”
You scrunch your face as you watch the video she shows you.
It’s a compilation of a girl nonchalantly wiping off her boyfriend’s kisses and catching his reactions.
Funnily enough, Trinity was right about this being a perfect one for Jack. Jack, your physically affectionate fiancee who would stay wrapped around you all day if he could. Who loves giving kisses and getting them too.
“Okay, I’ll do it but you have to get the reactions. And if it ends badly I’m blaming you fully.” you point a finger at her.
She salutes you with a goofy smile “Ma’am yes ma'am."
You shake your head with a smile.
Oh Jack.
Please don’t hate me for this
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Jack’s shift started two hours before yours so he was up and out of the house before you had even gotten out of bed.
All you remember was a kiss pressed to your forehead and a soft ‘love you’.
You savored it because that was gonna be the last one you let stay for the next several hours.
—--
You walk into the pitt, bag and lunch box in hand, and make your way to the locker rooms. That’s where you find Trinity waiting with a big smile. She looked like she was vibrating with excitement.
“Sweets, thank god! I thought you were gonna back out.”
You chuckle while putting your things up “As if. I feel kinda bad but I know he’ll get a laugh out of it later.”
Trinity links arms with you as you both make your way to the nurses station.
“That man could never truly be upset with you. He’s all heart eyes for you and shit.”
Your face heats up at her words.
Trinity lets go of you and taps her phone.
“I’ll be around and catch all the good stuff.”
“Okay Trin, let’s do this” you point at her as she makes herself scarce.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
The first time Jack comes around for the day, he spots you standing at the desk working on charts. You don’t notice him until strong arms gently wrap around your waist.
“Hey pretty girl, how are things so far?”
You turn your head towards him and he kisses your cheek.
Here it goes.
“Hey handsome,” you smile as you nonchalant wipe the kiss off “it’s been okay. Hoping for a fast day.”
You don’t miss the way Jack zeros in on your hand when you wipe off your cheek. He looks a bit confused but otherwise keeps his smile.
“Is everything o–”
“Incoming MVAs! Multi-car pileup with several patients in route! Get ready!”
Jack’s interrupted by Dana’s announcement.
“That’s our cue, babe. Let’s go” you close your chart and go join the other nurses to gather medical supplies.
Jack watches as you move but shakes his head.
Maybe he’s just seeing things.
—--
The next time it happens, you’re taking a breather in the ambulance bay after a busy nonstop string of traumas.
Hands on your hips you slowly pace back and forth, letting out a large breath.
Jack had seen you make your way out of the building and gave you a few minutes alone before following you out.
He finds you with your hands covering your face as you continue to pace. He steps into your path and pulls your hands from your face.
“Hey, you did great in there sweetheart” he praises you.
You nod your head silently.
“Thanks J. I’m just… I just needed a minute.”
He pulls you closer to his body.
Jack kisses you briefly, wishing he could bundle you up and take you home.
You, again, wipe the kiss off but this time with the sleeve of your scrub.
“I need to get back but at least we get to go home soon. See you in a bit J.”
You give him a wave as you walk back into the pitt.
Jack stands there with his arms crossed. This time he knows he didn’t just imagine it.
You did wipe off his kiss.
But why?
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
The one that finally does him in is when you’re talking to Robby about a patient you both were helping. You both had stepped out of the room to discuss treatment and recovery when Jack makes his way towards you.
Surely you would accept his affection in front of friends.
Little did he know.
“Hey sweetheart” he greets you.
He then grabs your waist from behind with one arm and the other across your chest, placing a kiss on your cheek.
“Ready to head home?”
Then you do it. You wipe the cheek he kissed with the back of your hand.
“Yesss finally,” you answer dramatically.
Jack’s eyes widen as he looks at Robby who has equally wide eyes.
In the whole time he had been around you and Jack, he had never seen you shy away or literally wipe away his affection towards you.
“I’ll take care of this first thing in the morning Robby” then you turn to Jack “I’m gonna grab my stuff and then we’ll go. Be right back.”
The two men watch as you go.
“Dude” Robby starts “What was that?”
Jack shrugs as he looks in the direction you disappeared to.
“I dont know but im fucking worried man.”
Robby pats his back “It’s something but I wouldn’t worry too much. Just talk to her.”
Jack nods as Robby walks off.
He can only hope whatever it is can be fixed.
—--
You both walk to Jack’s truck, arms full of your stuff.
You’re in the middle of naming dinner options as you go to reach for the passenger door handle
“I could make spaghetti. Maybe some quick steaks. Oh! I could make that casserole you l–”
Everything stops as Jack’s hand pushes against your door, keeping you from opening it.
You turn your head to Jack.
“J, what’s wrong?”
He gets close into your space.
“First, you know that you’re never going to have to open your own door when I'm around. Second,” his hand goes to your hip “Is everything okay?”
You know what he’s talking about but you have to play it cool.
“Yeah? What are you talking about baby?”
He looks to the side and takes a deep breath.
“I… did I do something wrong? Are you upset with me? You’ve wiped off all of my kisses today and I'm lost here baby. Just tell me what I did so I can fix it”
Fuck.
You don't know how much longer you can keep this up.
It breaks your heart that he thinks he's done something wrong.
You set your things down and grab his face in your hands.
“It was a joke, J. Something Trinity saw online. There's nothing you did wrong.”
His face scrunches “a joke? So we're okay?”
“Yes Jack, we’re okay. I promise. I’m sure Trin will send me the video she took of it earlier.”
He immediately kisses you. It turns more into a short makeout. He pulls back slightly, forehead pressed to yours.
“Gonna wipe that one off?” he smirks
You chuckle at that.
“Hmmm, I think I need another one before I decide.”
Hiii!!! I was wondering if you could do a brendon park x reader where they are dating and Bredon wants her to stay over but she's sacred to 'cause she afraid that she'll kick him or slap him in her sleep bc she's moves a lot when she sleeps? If not, totally okay!
You and Brendon had been dating for several months now and in all of that time you had never stayed the night at his place.
Sometimes you fall asleep for a bit on the couch during a movie night. But sleep in his bed? With him?
No.
You had been hesitant because you were a very restless sleeper.
On more than one occasion friends or family members had jokingly and not jokingly commented on how much you move in your sleep. Whether it was some kicking, sleep talking, or simply tossing and turning.
Due to that information you typically opted to sleep alone or keep a distance from others when sleeping over or sharing a sleeping space.
When it came to sleeping at Brendon’s, you didn’t want to scare him off with your restless movement.
He would ask often if you wanted to stay the night and you would avoid the invitation with an excuse of working early the next morning, early morning plans, not having any stuff with you, etc.
Brendon respected your answers but at the same time he just really wanted to fall asleep with you in his arms and wake up to you the next morning.
—--
Today you were having a pool day with Brendon. Both of you had the day off and what better way to beat the heat then take advantage of his apartment’s very expensive pool.
You guys had just gotten out and you go to lay out on your chair when Brendon pulls your arm gently.
He sits on his chair and lays back, maneuvering you to lay on top of him. Your face is squished against his warm chest as he runs his hands up and down your back in a soothing motion.
“I’m so sleepy” you mumble against his chest
You feel his chest vibrate from him chuckling.
“That so, baby?”
“Mhm” you hum as you play with the necklace he’s wearing.
“Well,” he starts “How about I order dinner, you pick some movies, and thennn” he drags out the last word “you spend the night with me tonight?”
You stay silent as your heart races.
Of course you want to do all of that but you’re hesitant of staying the night, as always.
“C’mon sweetheart,” he hugs you closely to his body “just wanna have you wrapped around me in my bed. Then after I wake up with you in my arms I’ll make you the best pancakes you’ve ever had.”
Tucking your face into his neck you mumble something incoherently.
“Hmm? What was that baby?” he tries turning his head closer
“I’m just scared.” you mumble again but a little louder
Brendon’s eyebrows furrow at your words.
“Why are you scared? Did I do someth–”
“No!” you cut him off abruptly “It’s nothing you’ve done Bren, I promise.”
You sit up and settle on his thighs, bracing your arms on his chest.
“I uh, I move around a lot when I sleep.”
You look up, avoiding eye contact with him.
“That's it? Is that why you’ve not stayed over before?” he probes gently
A tear rolls down your face “I know, I know, it probably seems fucking stupid of me t–”
“Hey, hey. Sweetheart, you’re not stupid. Don’t ever say that about yourself.” he rubs your arms soothingly.
“It’s okay to feel how you do about it but you do know that some moving around in your sleep isn’t gonna scare me away, right?”
“I hope not” you laugh a little as you wipe your tears.
He smiles up at you “You could have ten extra toes and I’d love you anyways.”
You gasp dramatically
“Ten?! Bren I promise I d-don’t” you laugh uncontrollably
He joins in with your laughter
“So… will you stay tonight?”
Letting out a deep breath you nod.
“Yeah, I guess I’ll steal your covers tonight.”
His fingers meet your sides “You little shit”
The giggles are uncontrollable as you wrestle with his hands.
He finally relents “Alright sweetheart, lets get a shower and some dinner.”
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Brendon had ordered dinner from an Italian restaurant that was devoured quickly during a small movie marathon.
The final credits were rolling and your eyes were barely open.
Brendon looks down at your head against his shoulder.
He gently runs his thumb across your cheek “ready for bed, baby?”
You nod against his shoulder, too exhausted for words.
“Alright pretty girl,” he stands slowly and picks you up in his arms “Let’s go.”
He walks to his bedroom and sets you down on the edge of the bed.
Brendon finds a t-shirt of his and stands in front of you.
Still a little awake you lift your arms up.
He helps you get your shirt and shorts off, putting his shirt on you.
Once you’re dressed you slowly get under the covers and get comfortable.
“I’m gonna turn everything off and get us some water and I’ll be back” he says from the doorway.
“Okay,” you mumble sleepily.
You try to stay awake for him to get back but quickly you’re nodding off until you’re dead asleep.
—--
Brendon’s gone for maybe ten minutes and then he’s back with bottled waters for you both.
The first thing he notices is your restlessness.
It’s almost as if you’re in a dream state or something’s plaguing your mind. You hadn’t mentioned nightmares or things troubling you so it’s not something he needs to wake you up from.
He flicks the lights off and gets in bed with you, immediately pulling you into his chest. When he said he didn’t mind the restless movement, he meant it.
Then he notices it.
As soon as he pulls you into his embrace and cuddles you close, you go still.
And you don’t seem to move a muscle the whole night.
Huh.
Maybe all of this time you just needed someone to hold you at night.
I just need to tell someone: I am a Jack girlie right I like a man in uniform. Never really saw the appeal for Park the Shark.
Until last night when I had a dream. I was in severe pain, literally thought it was real. I had fallen down a cliff at a park, it was a whole thing. I remembered ALL of this. Getting picked up by EMS etc. Getting transported to the hospital and being like lmao this sucks. Getting there and Robby being there and I lowkey thought "well this is a dream cause he ain't real" and then the thought disappeared and I didnt remember thinking that until I awoke. Anyways, the dream continued with them like getting x-rays and they were like "we're gonna call your emergency contact" and I immediately was like "oh no dont". So they agreed, all I had it listed as was a first name Brendan and some cell number.
So imagine my utter guilt when they call Ortho down for a consult for my broken arm and Park walks in and stops at the entryway once he sees me. Cue protectiveness and anger that the staff didnt call him. I dont even know what we were, dating married who knows but he kissed my head and then was like I'm doing your surgery and when someone tried to interject he shouldn't cause he knew me he snapped that I deserved the best and he was the best and I was just lowkey high from pain meds and agreed. Anyways I had to tell someone and im just like floored. Now im a Park girlie too who knew. From less then 5 minutes of screen time I am SAT
hey! i was wondering if you could please do a jack x wife!reader where they have a toddler daughter and while jack is alone with her in the park or the beach someone mistakes her for his grandchild and then he gets really insecure, reader finds out through the daughter and comforts him
Today you and Jack decided to take your four year old daughter, Aria, to the park for a family day.
Jack had worked more than normal this week and you felt he just needed a day to get out of the house and enjoy a good day outside.
“Who’s excited for the park?” you ask, looking in the rear view mirror at your daughter.
Small eyes identical to Jack’s look at you with excitement.
“Meeee! I want to go to the slide with daddy! And then the swings!” she rambles on with a smile.
“Don’t worry baby,” you smile back at her “you’ll get to do all of that.”
Jack enterwines your hands and brings it up to place a gentle kiss as his eyes stay focused on the road.
“I’m glad to have you both to myself for the day.”
You squeeze his hand briefly “We’re glad to have you too J. You deserve a break.”
He smiles as he thinks of the relaxing day ahead of him with his girls.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
The walk from the parking lot to one of the open field areas is a good twenty minute walk.
Jack has a cooler bag of drinks and snacks while you carry Aria and a bag of her things she may need and some toys.
Once you guys find a decently shaded spot with a few people, Jack lays down a light blanket and sets everyone’s stuff down.
You set Aria down and look through your bag.
“Shit” you mutter quietly, still rummaging in the bag.
Jack looks up from his seated position on the blanket as he grabs some water from the cooler.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart?”
“I forgot the sunscreen in the car.”
He nods “Well, we’ll just play mostly in the shade. It’s okay.”
You look at your husband with the classic ‘are you serious’ face.
Jack Abbot,” you start “you and your daughter are the most sunburn prone duo on the planet. If you want to risk it with never ending teasing from Robby, go for it. But our daughter is not leaving here looking like a tomato and in pain.”
He chuckles at the tomato reference “Okay sweetheart, be safe and hurry back.”
You run your hand through his grey curls as you pass him.
“Will do, J.”
—---
As Jack waits for you to get back, he has his full attention on Aria as she tells him about the Bluey episode she watched that morning.
“You know I was sitting there with you silly” he laughs as he tickles her side gently.
She erupts in giggles as he continues and attacks her face with kisses.
“You and your granddaughter are adorable” a voice says from the walking path a little bit in front of him.
His eyes furrow a bit as he looks up at the older woman walking her dog.
“I’m sorry?”
Did he hear her right?
She points at Aria with a smile “Your granddaughter,” she says again “she’s just a cute little thing.”
Jack forces a smile at the words.
“She’s actually my daughter.” he corrects politely
He sees the exact moment when the woman realizes.
“Oh my! I am so sorry hun, I-I didn’t mean anything by it. I just assumed th– I’m so sorry. You and your daughter have a great day.”
She waves briefly before continuing on her way down the path. Once she’s out of sight, the smile Jack had been faking falls immediately.
Granddaughter? Did he really look that old?
He was nearing fifty in a few years and you were a good eighteen years younger than him.
Did people think you were his daughter?
Did people make comments like that to you?
Were you upset about things like that? That he was so much older?
Would you prefer someone younger?
“Daddy!”
A small body falls into his lap, pulling him from his downward spiral of thoughts. He plasters a convincing smile as he goes back to playing with Aria.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
You hurried to the car as quickly as you could and hurried back. You see Jack tossing a foam ball back and forth with Ari. She giggles as it bounces out of her hands and to the side.
She sees you first.
“Mama!” she squeals as she runs towards your legs.
You pick her up and kiss her cheek “Hey baby. Were you playing with daddy while I was gone?”
“Yes yes yes!” she cheers while clapping her hands.
You laugh as you set her down on the blanket.
“Okay sunscreen time for you both.”
You look towards Jack and see him looking ahead with a slight frown.
“Babe, everything okay?” you ask softly
You see him immediately give a half smile that’s not convincing.
“Yeah honey, I’m good.”
He’s definitely acting weird.
You raise an eyebrow “You sure, J?”
He nods as he sits Ari in his lap.
“Alright” he says “lets get some sunscreen on our little monster” he attacks her with tickles.
You can’t help but smile at them but you’re still not convinced Jack’s okay.
You let it go for now but you’ll get him to tell you what’s wrong in a little while.
—---
You guys have had a great time spending the day entertaining one another with Aria.
After finishing the lunch you had packed for everyone, Jack wipes his hands off.
“M’gonna find the bathroom. I’ll be back sweetheart.”
“Kay, be careful” you say as he walks past you.
While he’s gone you talk to Ari.
“Are you having a good day with mama and daddy today?” You smile
Ari grins big, looking more and more like her dad every day.
“Yes!”
“Good, baby.”
You go to grab your drink when her little voice speaks up.
“Daddy sad.”
You face her quickly with furrowed brows.
Huh?
“What baby? Why’s daddy sad?”
Maybe she saw what had happened.
You pick her up and hold her in your lap.
Ari leans the side of her head against your chest and gets comfortable.
“What happened baby?”
She looks around and then points at something.
You look and see an older lady with a dog walking.
“Who’s that?” You ask gently
Ari snuggles closer to you.
“Her and doggy said hi.”
“They talked to you and daddy?”
Aria nods against your chest.
Bingo.
What the hell happened when you left earlier?
Jack comes back a few minutes later.
“Alright Abbot girls, do we want to make our way home soon? Maybe get someeee ice cream on the way?” He says in a silly voice to Aria.
“Ice cream daddy!” she claps in excitement.
“Okay baby, we will soon.” he grins at her
You set her down in front of you where some of her toys are.
“J,” you say quietly
“Yeah, sweetheart?”
You grab his hand “Are you gonna tell me what happened earlier?”
He noticeably stiffens at your question and shakes his head briefly.
“Nothing happened?” you press.
“So,” you turn to look for the lady “that woman over there didn’t come over and talk to you and Ari?”
He follows where your finger points and you see his fists clench and unclench.
“Baby, please… tell me what happened?” you plea.
He takes a deep breath.
“When you went to the car, she was walking by and said… something.”
You look at him silently waiting for him to continue.
“She uh, thought I was Ari’s grandfather.”
You tilt your head in confusion.
“She thought Ari was your granddaughter?”
He nods not making eye contact with you.
“Well J, we know that’s not true. So what’s the matter baby?”
“It… it just made me think. Does everyone see it that way?” he shrugs “Do I look that old? Do you think I look too old? Would you want someon—“
“Jack Abbot don’t you dare finish that question.”
His face looks defeated.
“But would you?”
With wide eyes you reassure him “Jack, I would never.”
Your heart breaks at how the interaction upset him.
“Jack listen, I understand where those insecurities can come about but babe…” you pause briefly
“there is no one else on this earth I want more than you. I chose you because you’re funny, you’re considerate, a gentleman, mature, passionate, and talented. You’re also so fucking handsome. Incredibly hot.” you wink
“But most importantly, I chose someone who would make not only the most amazing husband but also the most amazing father to our kids. And I'm not always the best at choosing things, we know this” you laugh softly
“but I couldn’t have chosen someone better for those roles than you. You’re it babe and you’re stuck with me and Aria forever. Ari also doesn’t care about your age, she just loves her dad.”
“Isnt that right, Ari?” you look at your daughter whose attention is being held by the toys in front of her.
You gently pick her up and set her in your lap.
“Where’s daddy?” you ask as you hold her.
She points at Jack with a smile.
“Tell me something you love about daddy.”
She giggles as you blow raspberries against her cheek.
Jack can’t help but grin at his two favorite girls.
“He plays with me and he, he kisses my boo boos and and he’s nice to you. I love daddy.” she rambles.
You look at Jack with a raised eyebrow as if to say ‘see, I told you’.
His eyes water at his daughter’s words.
“I love you too, sweet girl.”
Ari starts to move in your lap and reaches her arms out to Jack.
“Daddy! Hold meee!”
Jack reaches over and takes her from you.
She immediately wraps her arms around his neck, squishing her cheek against his. The action grounds him, melting away the remaining insecurities from earlier.
The sight melts your heart.
You grab your phone and snap a quick picture.
“Anytime you feel down about this again,” you show him the picture you had just taken
Early on in life you had been thrown a curveball when you were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
It had caused issues the first few years but with the help of family, doctors and medications, you had been able to manage it.
The only time it seemed to pose a setback was when you started medical school.
You’d think it would be more assuring to work in a hospital, especially if something went wrong. But while that might seem to be a good thing, you were worried others would view it as a weakness.
Being a nurse requires you to be careful, attentive, and meticulous in everything you do.
You weren’t ashamed of the fact you had diabetes, but you didn’t want to give people a reason to doubt your abilities.
The only people at PTMC that knew of your condition was Gloria (for disclosure purposes) and your boyfriend, Brendon Park.
He was truly a blessing and beyond understanding of things. Brendon always had a sugary drink or snack on hand for low blood sugar, and extra medication for when it got too high. He was always prepared.
You appreciated him so much more for it.
He always tried to watch out for you since at times you would get overwhelmed with work or other things and not stay on top of things.
Unfortunately today was an extremely busy day for him and unfortunately it was for you too.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Budget cuts.
That was the biggest talk around the hospital. Word had it that it was happening in all departments and the pitt was the first to get hit.
This meant that everyone was on their A-game and working ten times harder to not be part of the cut.
You were one of the people who was working their ass off to not be cut. This meant showing up early, staying late, taking extra shifts, no sitting, and no breaks.
This posed an issue for you since you had to be a tad more vigilant with yourself and your diabetes.
Normally you would check your phone several times a day to make sure your blood sugar was in range and make sure your dexcom was letting you know if something was too high or too low.
But with the talk of cutting staff, you had neglected checking your phone so that you wouldn’t have anyone second guessing you.
—--
It’s late afternoon when it happens.
You’re at a slight jog all day moving from patient to patient, filling out chart after chart. The sweat is sticking to you and it feels like the a/c isn’t even working.
It starts when you take a short five minutes to catch your breath.
You had felt fatigued all day but it was now really starting to set in, more than usual. Your heart is also beating a bit too fast but you chalk it up to being on the move all day.
An hour later you feel the shaking begin. It’s barely noticeable to anyone else but you clock it immediately.
It’s not too bad, I’ll be fine for a bit longer.
That's the thought process you convince yourself to keep going.
You can’t afford to stop again.
You can’t get cut.
So you continue working.
Not even thirty minutes later you’re getting ready to discharge a patient when your sight gets a bit blurry.
You shake your head a bit hoping to clear things. When it doesn’t help you dismiss yourself from the room briefly.
Walking to the nurses station feels like you’re completing a race drunk.
The dizziness is getting worse and making you sluggish in movement.
“Sweetpea, you okay?”
Dana? Who’s talking to me?
Your vision still swims as you look up and see blurry figures not too far from you.
“Kid? You’re not lookin too good. What’s wrong?”
Robby?
I don’t feel good.
“Kid what’s wrong? Can you hear me?”
Yes I can hear you. I just told you I don’t feel good.
It feels like everything is in slow motion as you reach for the desk counter but you can’t feel it.
All you feel is how your world tilts.
Everything going black before you hit the floor.
—--
“Shit!” Robby hisses out before lunging towards your crumbling form.
He manages to catch your upper body before your head hits the floor.
“I need a gurney now!” he yells as he checks the pulse in your neck.
Dana falls to her knees with you and Robby.
“Sweetpea, hey! Can you hear me?”
She checks your eyes but they’re rolled to the back of your head.
“Her pulse is racing D. I don’t know what’s going on.”
A gurney is rolled over and they both get you lifted and rolled into an empty room.
“Does she have any medical issues? Did something happen recently?”
Dana looks over you checking for injuries. She lifts your left sleeve and then your right one.
“Robby, get over here!”
He rushes over and looks at what she’s found.
Your dexcom.
“She’s diabetic?” He questions in disbelief
Dana tears up as she shakes her head “I had no idea.”
“I need glucagon now!” he shouts to a resident in the room.
He then looks back to Dana “Get Park down here.”
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Brendon is finishing scrubbing out from a surgery. He’s exhausted as he dries off his hands but is pulled from his tired state from the door hitting the wall.
“Park” Garcia says as she catches her breath “get to the pitt now.”
His eyebrows furrow as he fully faces her “What’s wrong?”
“Dana called up saying your girl collapsed and to get down there quick.”
Brendon’s moving before she can even finish.
His heart races as his mind files through the possibilities at hand. He runs as fast as he can to get to you.
—--
He makes it to the pitt in record time and finds your room as its crowded by your pitt family trying to check on you.
“Park,” Robby gets his attention and he quickly pushes through everyone to get in, finding your side immediately.
He cups your face gently, thumbs rubbing over your cheeks.
“What fucking happened, Robinavitch?”
Robby turns to him “Why didn’t you or her tell us she was fucking diabetic?” he says with a clipped tone.
Brendon is taken aback by the question, anger slowly building.
“Excuse me? That’s something you guys should already know. Why would I have to tell you?” he grits out
Robby furrows his eyebrows “What? We never knew. We just found out when she collapsed from a fucking hypoglycemic episode. Her blood sugar tanked bad, Park.”
Brendon looks at Robby in shock “She didn’t tell you?”
He shakes his head.
Brendon looks at your resting form.
Why didn’t you tell them?
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Your eyes feel heavy as you try to open them.
What the hell?
Shift must’ve been crazy if I can barely wake up.
As you open your eyes and things come into focus, you’re met with the frown of an upset boyfriend and concerned faces of your friends.
Wait what?
“B-Bren?”
“Welcome back sweetpea.” Dana smiles in your direction.
You look from her, to Robby, and then to Brendon.
“What happened?”
Brendon approaches you and cups your face as he kisses your forehead.
“Your blood sugar dropped, sweetheart. Why didn’t you take something when your phone went off?”
Your eyebrows furrow as you feel around your pockets and pull out your phone.
You tap the screen and it doesn’t turn on.
Shit.
“I never heard it go off. I guess my phone was dead. Shit, I’m sorry Bren.”
He rubs your cheek gently “It’s okay baby. You’re okay now. But do you want to tell me why your friends and coworkers had no idea you were diabetic?”
You look back over at Dana and Robby who give off worried mom and dad energy.
Tears start to fill your eyes.
“I-I’m sorry,” you whisper out “I just– I never wanted anyone to doubt me or my abilities if they knew or saw me handling it. Then with the budget cuts I really didn’t want anyone doubting me. I usually look at my phone to check my levels but I didn’t want to risk any bad feedback that could get me in trouble.”
Robby walks to your other side and grabs your hand.
“Kid,” he starts “no one would doubt your abilities and if they did, me and anyone who really know you would squash that immediately.”
He looks up at the ceiling and you see his eyes wet with unshed tears.
“My stomach dropped when you collapsed. I didn’t know if you were hurt or if I was watching you die.” he sniffs as he puts his hands on his hips.
“Sweet girl, your health is more important than anything. You can’t do your best if you don’t feel your best. You have to tell us when you have conditions like this.” Dana tells you
“We’re not here to judge you and we would never tell anyone but we need to know these things so we can care for you better in case things like this happen.”
Tears roll down your face as you nod silently.
Brendon wipes the tears away.
“Sweetheart, as soon as your phone is charged, you’re adding me on your app to keep me notified of your levels. I can’t see you like this again. I can’t, baby.”
