Alastor scoffed at Vox’s denial. “Oh? I assumed you three were all on the same level. Tell me, why wouldn’t they leave you? Because you’re partners? There’s a bond? Maybe trust? All things you were willing and ready to throw away, proudly proclaiming that once you overtook Heaven you wouldn’t “need a squad”.” He reminded. Yeah, perhaps speaking out loud while keeping Alastor close was not a good idea. “You were ready to leave them, abandon ship for something better. Why should they treat you any better or with any more grace?”
Alastor was relieved to hear Vox didn’t want to be redeemed. He had heard from Charlie that the man had asked about it when he had visited the hotel, the rest of his comment though made him laugh. He found it an obvious lie that was humorous, but he also felt a pit of anger that he ignored, instead commenting; “that is far from what you proposed to me in the bar all those years ago before you had your tiff~” Surprisingly, he didn’t comment on Vox’s determination though his eyes lit up.
The fire inside the other Overlord seemed reignited, which was good for Alastor as he’d be bored without it.
The Radio Demon was surprised the other came to sit with him, he actually bowed his head and closed his eyes, enjoying the peace for a moment. He hated how even now… There was a comforting buzz that came from being near Vox. It was their radiowaves interfering with each other, but it felt like a long overdue balm for them.
When Vox speaks, he opens his eyes and looks over without turning his head. “...I don’t recall ever calling you a failure back then. Even recently I called you broken—there is a difference. A failure is sad and pathetic, someone broken has the chance to be rebuild if they try and keep within their limitations. Nearly every Sinner is broken in one way or another, even me. In your case you chase grandeur so quickly you miss the spikes lying at your feet and even when you do “win” it’s not enough, you create another goal until those spikes get you. You had me captive, yet that wasn’t enough, it still wasn’t enough after the parading around, it wasn’t enough having me witness whatever that was with the moth, it wasn’t enough keeping me in the tower, it wasn’t enough to merely have me at your event, and it wasn’t enough to leave me bleeding on the ground. I do not believe even destroying me would be enough.”
“I also never turned my back. You were the one who stopped showing up to our bar. I merely declined a partnership, I will admit, harshly, but I had believed you could take it. That you would know I have my reasons… I believed incorrectly…” He admitted. “I do not apologize though… I did what I had to do for both of us.”
