After running this blog for a several months I just now realised I have anon asks disabled.

I should really get back to drawing and respond to asks about VoxPress in my ask box 🙃

The reasons some of them are taking so long to respond are:

1) I don’t want to answer the question at least until I’m 80% sure I won’t retcon/give a “kill your darling’s” treatment to a specific thing being asked about.

2) Some asks are sets of several questions, and sometimes one question is something I’m not confident to give answers to yet, which delays the response. (So just for the future, it’s totally okay to send me multiple messages with different questions, makes it easier to approach them one at the time actually).

3) I want to attach some visual when I’m making the response and some character redesigns are still work in progress

4) Also it’s vacation season and my work gets busier around this time + I’ve been juggling my drawing time with participating in art camp to bump my anatomy skills, so there’s also that.

But I’ll get to them either way, thank you for your patience 🙏

I’ve heard that in one of the interviews Viv described Valentino as “not knowing what boundaries are” and some were not taking that statement well, interpreting it as her “trying to be quirky about the abuser”. But looking at Val and his anger issues, paired with tendencies for violent outbursts I read that as him potentially coming from the environment where boundaries are not respected unless you enforce them with violence.

Whether I’m picking up on that from personal experience or not isn’t relevant 🙃

VoxPress notes: How people in Vee’s (un)lives affected their choice to become Overlords.

*Vox, from the beginning, was curious and fascinated with concept of Overlords and their function as pillars of Hell. He ended up in close proximity to Alastor, due to his role as the Judge of Hell, because, for his investigative work Vox ended up butting heads with Al a lot to inquire him about the ways he tracks down sinners for punishment (I envision it being kind of like Hannibal/Clarice dynamic in Silence of the Lambs). Alastor was seeing Vox at the time as entertaining nuisance/tag-along, and found his restlessness, diligence and observant skills charming, but not threatening. When Vox's capabilities were noticed enough for him to be offered a Covenant, he chose because he had ambition and knew he could do so much more a asset of Hell, but also to get on equal foot with Al, to understand more from the inside, how does he embody his aspect of Law. By understanding Al he hoped they could do a better job of preserving Hell together. However, Al didn't wanted to be understood by Vox.

*Valentino, beneath all of the facade of devil may care mercenary, who embraces the brutal nature of the world, experienced a deep fatigue with the need to preserve his place of comfort through violence and dominance. He saw in Vox's system a structure that could help decrease the amount of violence that needs to be inflicted. But also, he started as Vox's bodyguard, and eventually, the resources he earned through this job, he started channeling into hosting art events, opening his own clubs that started gaining traction. And Valentino realised that this is something he wanted to become more of rather than just another mercenary who fights. Even during the days of Val being his bodyguard Vox would show appreciation for his paintings and say that he should continue doing them. (This is the angle I decided to explore more thanks to @rascalmath and this amazing past!VP! VoxVal comic they drew). That made Valentino realise, that in the never ending one-man fight to be himself, he has very little space left to be…himself. And Vox inadvertently was the first person who subtly encouraged him he to be more of that, which is something Val recognised. So Valentino took Covenant to have the opportunity to be in Vox’s system not just a physical asset, but as a someone with equal power to preserve Hell through its culture. And to ask him out.

*Velvette was actually the one who did not want to take Covenant at first. She was more comfortable with her position as gray eminence manufacturing the myths behind Vox's influence from the shadows while being his contractor. That was until her bandmates were wiped out during one of the exterminations. While Velvette was under contract of Vox, they were contractors of Nifty, who was still active Overlord at the time, they died during a mission when they were relocating sinners into sanctuary but got caught in the crossfire. Not to mention, Nifty, who is an overlord of Hearth, took on the heavy position where she needed to step up and protect the sinners with power and vigilance. However, her aspect is Hearth, and Hearth demands her to be gentle, it doesn't care about the circumstances. So Nifty lost the connection with her aspect, and became a Fallen overlord, which created the role vacuum for Overlord that might overtake community aspect of Hell. Velvette chose to fill it in to make sure what happened to her bandmates will not happen to anyone else.

Vox Week 2026 [2/7] - Shark Vox

(The week is almost over, but I refuse to let it die)

Anyway, in this au all of the shark motives are more in the realm, of ✨symbolic metaphor✨which I wanted to convey in this sketch.

Here, Vox when he was still Vincent, a restless journalist obsessed with new developing broadcast technology and its potential to keep the truth from being hidden. Too bad he didn’t took to the account that there are different ways to keep people silent, and his rival Eugene is took full advantage of that by finding something in Vincent’s past that won’t let his career survive in era of McCarthyism.

(Yeah, the rival guy is based on that redhead dude Vincent smashed to death with equipment in Brighter. I thought it will be interesting to do a turn of the tide and make one of his canon self’s victims be the one to throw him under the bus in the AU)

You mentioned an overhaul of the Overlord system in your au, can you share or does it need some more time?

Ever since the disappearance of Lilith, Hell has been governed by the hierarchy of Overlords that are divided into two groups: Originals born from Lilith and ascended Sinners.

Original Overlords are lesser demons born from Lilith to aid her in governing sinners, they were born with inherent fondness for humans created by Lilith as a reminder to humans that not every force of darkness is against them.

There are three Original Overlords: Zestiel, Rosie and Maestro. All three of them represent aspects of humanity that Lilith appreciates about humans:

Rosie represents the human duality of violence and civility.

Zestiel represents human preservation and endurance across time, the need to be remembered.

Maestro represents human’s love for art and creativity in defiance of precarities of life.

Rules

Sinners become Overlords when one if the Originals chooses them to form a Covenant by sharing a fragment of Lilith’s essence with them. This process changes the structure of their soul permanently.

Sinner is always chosen by Original, not the other way around. Any kind of bribery or manipulation is off the table, Original Overlord must feel resonance in alignment, otherwise passage of powers will fail.

Sinner that becomes an Overlord gets a signature ability based on their Aspect (ex. Vox’s Truth Gaze, Valentino’s Illusory Smoke) and a Demon Form.

Sinner that becomes an Overlord gains a new power, but also loses something in a process (ex.Vox can extract a confession out of anyone, but loses the ability to ever forget it)

Overlords that ascended from Sinners cannot form Covenants and convert other Sinners into Overlordship as their flicker of Lilith’s power is finite.

Overlords can form Deals between each other or Contracts with Sinners under their domain.

Overlords exist to stabilise Hell using Aspect they represent and were chosen for.

Being an Overlord is considered a big responsibility instead of a power-grab and it’s not something just any Sinner could become or strives for. If they fail to perform their duty, they usually become Fallen by losing connection with their Aspect or Fractured if they let it erode their identity.

That’s the basics of the structure.

I’m on a small vacation and just saw the new Hazbin Merch. The Vees pride stand raises some questions.

A have a speculation about Vox’s face, but it’s a bit of a longshot.

It’s the way that background screen behind Vox showing much more intense expression compared to his corporate smile. It also shows his full face on the screen instead of same angle that Valentino and Velvette have, showcasing their outfits. This effect usually happens when Vox possesses the monitor, so my first impression was that that’s where his actual consciousness is present at the moment.

The last scene in s2 finale with Valentino bumping the microphone with suspiciously Vox-colored design made me wonder if Vox will spend next season like a ghost in the machine, hopping different electronics to maintain some control after being forcibly removed from his body (even if for his own good). And this piece of merch feels very reaffirming of said theory. Like, this is one of the instances where Vox just “disappears” into electronic realm and The Vees have to substitute him with prop/double which has that non threatening corporate smile plastered all over its face.

I know the whole lobotomy/drug theories are funny and obvious solutions, but we saw Vox teleport into cameras/monitors all the time and it’s implied that he’s resistant to drugs like love potions. As to why he would choose to do that and what does it say about his mental state and relationship with other Vees in next season is yet to be figured out.

Still can’t fully articulate how it ties up with the narrative of Valentine’s merch, where they want to have Vox involved, but he still doesn’t have a body. Was the whole photo set actually private in-universe? That would explain why Angel is alone and actually enjoying himself. I’ll definitely be thinking more about it, but I needed to get the thoughts I already have about the visual narrative we just got.

I missed drawing VoxPress Charlie (and StaticBelle), so I filled the whole page with these blorbos before work.

I also wanna get more confident with posting my sketchbook stuff . I’m having a lot of fun with traditional media, even if results usually look messy and imperfect.

A thought that came up during conversations on discord:

It would be cool if we saw more of in-universe examples of how Valentino’s movies affect cultural osmosis of Hell.

Like yeah we get the mentions of different movie tittles, but if he’s influential enough to be one of the biggest movie director Overlords, then sinners are absolutely quoting or referencing them in their everyday life. And porn with plot usually has a lot memeability potential.

Let Valentino be responsible for Hell’s equivalent of something that’s the thespian calibre of lemon stealing whores.

I saw someone on ig use these procreate brushes in a cool way and wanted to give them a try

+ first run of subtle tweaks to vpVal redesigns:

Eyes are now black with red iridescence and tear line

Black antennas with red eye-like pattern

Red patterns on fur now look like ink stains that are supposed to be somewhat psychedelic but also a subtle nod to camo patterns used in army uniforms (hm, I wonder why)

(Now I need to finally lock in and design his wings)

I mostly prefer to keep my interpretations of canon to myself. I’m not a fandom meta writer by any stretch and while I do have some opinions, I don’t want to incite arguing on my blog. But sometimes I will stumble upon discussions that makes me want to express my opinion too, at least for some other people who also read same takes and quietly disagreed to feel seen. But I will try to keep it to the minimum though.

Totally! Imagine rejecting a guy, then 70 years later he builds an empire with new friends as you lose to the changing world, so you keep going back to him, picking at the old wounds to retain some control where are all the torches and pitchforks coming from?

Sorry for lack of updates and long waiting for replies to asks.

My health condition hasn’t been great recently, I have hypothyroidism and it’s been making me straight up lethargic for last few months, leaving no energy to do anything after work other than necessarily real life obligations. Gonna take visit to gp this month with new blood test results to see if my medication dosage needs to be adjusted. Hopefully things will improve a little soon and I’ll be able to be more productive.

Been feeling under the weather because of work+health related reasons with no energy for lore related art. At least have these two attempts to gothify Velvette’s fits for her VoxPress Au counterpart.
