I had attended both BIEL concerts and I can assure you that the Ataba verses were not retold. The song had a different intro from the studio version and the live performances between 2003 and 2005 (I believe she last performed these verses in Montreal).

A short (and fairly clear) version of Ma Shawart Hali that was broadcasted during a news segment on Fairuz’ appearance at Beiteddine festival in 2003. It includes a verse of Ataba that never made it to the studio version and was replaced by the farm noises at the beginning of the song. This is probably the only verse Ziad Rahbani has ever written to Fairuz that directly mentions Lebanon.

I am amazed by what you have posted on your blog (mostly biet el deen clips). first of all, thank you very very much for posting such videos!! Secondly, I am not gonna ask where and how you got those clips. I just want you to make it longer and post more. we have been suffering ALOT from the bad people surrounding Fairuz. I can tell that you will have a special place in heaven :) Peace :)

A modified version from Beiteddine 2001; another majestic orchestration that puts the original version to shame. I've never liked this song, especially because it's constantly shoved down my throat as a "timeless Rahbani masterpiece", but this version is out of this world. This is exactly why I never listen to the original songs of "Ela Assi" (except for "Yara" which was entirely rearranged but Fairuz insisted on trimming it down), it's because Ziad was able to maintain the feel of these songs while adding a whole lot of magic with the rearrangement. Not to mention that I love the maturity in Fairuz' voice after 1986.

The quote above is by a man of the audience. As much as I hate it when people get chatty during concerts (and they eventually ruin bootlegs), I couldn't agree more with this fellow Fairuz comrade.
