“He just wants to have a nice life and be a regular dude. He doesn't really have any higher aspirations particularly. He was fine with being tortured every day if he could just go home to Nasha.” - Robert Pattinson
Mickey 17 (2025) dir. Bong Joon-ho
nasha barridge is the character of all time. she's a firefighter and a security guard and a martial artist. she loves her pathetic ass boyfriend more than anyone. dating two clones at once isn't a dealbreaker for her. she can snap a fascist's neck with her legs while holding onto a rope with her teeth. she breaks down giggling over doodles of stick figures having sex. she starts a riot in the cafeteria to defend her boyfriend from bullies. she's stayed with her boyfriend while he dies more than once. she's compassionate and wise and supportive and also jealous and hotheaded and messy. and she's in space!
I love complex black female characters! I loved her from start to finish. But of course people are already calling her controlling and selfish for wanting both mickey’s despite both 17 & 18 are one soul in 2 different bodies. I think people don’t understand how in every universe/body she is loved by Mickey and in every universe/body/death, she loves Mickey.
When Kai suggested she take Mickey 17 because he almost “double dipped” i wanted Nasha to beat her ass to badlyyyy!! Nasha could have had and kept all 18 Mickeys if she wanted to, that was her man from the MOMENT she laid eyes on him! He even said to himself after he left Kai “Nasha, i’m sorry” like he never intended to kiss Kai! She wanted him to.
Nasha and Mickey are soul mates, she’s loved every version of him and he’s never stopped loving her no matter what number he was. She was the only who truly cared about him and held him when he died!!
She had every right to claim both , that’s her fucking man👏🏼
What do yall know about real lovers
I saw again another post implying that J.K. Rowling "invented" the idea of a "school for wizards/school for witches" in fiction... *sigh*. Again, while Hogwarts definitively marked the cultural landscape and changed our modern vision of what a "school of sorcery/magic school" is supposed to be... Rowling invented nothing, and there were many, MANY, magic schools in fiction long before the first Harry Potter book was released. As much in fiction for adults as fiction for children. Let me recap some big points:
The Invisible College, from Diana Wynne Jones' The Tough Guide to Fantasy Land, one year before Harry Potter - AND which forms a parody/reference to most of the schools listed below.
Wizard's Hall, from the titular Wizard's Hall book by Jane Yolen - six years before Harry Potter.
Groosham Grange, from the novel of the same name by Anthony Horowitz, nine years before Harry Potter.
The Unseen University, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld - 14 years before Harry Potter.
Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches, from Jill Murphy's The Worst Witch, 23 years before Harry Potter
The island of Roke, from the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin - 29 years before Harry Potter.
We can even go back to Dom Daniel, from T.H. White's original version of The Once and Future King, 58 years before Harry Potter.
And I am not even counting the various "magic colleges" and "sorcery academies" that appeared in role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons long before Harry Potter came out...
Conclusion: Hogwarts is interesting and influential... But not inventive.
