Hey!

Welcome to my blog! I'll be posting all manner of things about Furbies! But first here's a little intro!

Please call me V, I use She/They pronouns. I was gifted my first Furby around age 5 and while I have not seen them since, they likely are okay whereever they went. Currently I have a small flock of 1998s and quite a few "Long Furbies" as well. I try to be informed about the behavior, biology, and speculative future of the fun, faux avians!

Feel free to ask questions, and I'll do my best to answer. I also adore submissions of your own "Specimens", though we all know they are much more than that! I'd even be up for giving my opinion on Furby-related posts and am open to tagging.

As of 11/14/25, I will be attempting to tag the Furbies you see by their names for easier search. I don't know when I'll get to older posts. To search just look for "Furby: (name)" (example Furby: Laughing Gas).

Not an uncommon display for Furbies with their Caretakers! Some environments Furby reside in can be dangerous for a multitude of reasons. This has led the behavior for some to sleep in shifts, watching the others while they stay awake!

It more commonly develops in Furbies adopted in heavily Urban environments, Deeply Rural locations, and those rescued from illegal breeding operations.

Take this as a sign of comfort! Your Furby associates you as a member of the Colony!

Furbies, like flamingos, get their pigmentation from their diet.

Correct! A part of what goes into Furby pigmentation is what they ingest! Though, after the desired coloration is achieved a Furby only has to continue supplementing minimally to maintain it. If you notice your Furby ingesting specifically colored substances then you know they are preparing for a color change!

How wonderful to meet Gherkin! Now, they do appear to be a part of the "Oddbody" breed, though I am hard pressed to put them in any of the subbreeds. Still, a wonderful specimen nonetheless!

Another relatively uncommon mutation that can be found in all manner of Furby breeds. This is the first time I've seen it in the Buddies sub-breed.

My Furby Fortune Telling Machine. Made this at the end of last year. Been mailing people fortunes through Etsy, it’s been nice that people seem to like this lil thing I made.

Ah! A wonderful example of some common behaviors attributed to the Wizard variety of the 1998 breed! Other behaviors include; brewing potions, writing scrolls, small to large acts of magic, congregating in groups of other Wizard Furbies, to staring at toadstools. Such an interesting subtype of the 1998 breed.

Hello fellow Furby enthusiasts and seekers of Furby Knowledge. I wish to apologize for the noticeable absence and pause in answering questions. Life has been busy, both acclimating to a new job schedule, to adopting a new pet, and also experiencing the sudden loss of said pet. Hopefully from now on I'll be more active, if just a little. I will be clearing the askbox, mainly to make sure questions and answers are to date. I also am hoping to share even more members of the household as well. Toodles~

I finally managed to adopt a Furby, and it seems to be a baby with pink fur and yellow hair. I'd like to know how to welcome it properly and not scare it! Can you advise me?

Like with most new members of the family, providing a place that is relatively quiet and far from household activity can help reduce the stress of your new friend! Also providing nesting materials (blankets and pillows) and food and water can also help keep your new friend comfortable as they acclimate to their new home. If you happen to know a favorite treat, then that is always a bonus. I would limit how much interaction you have with your Furby for the first few days, unless they are actively seeking you out. Other than that, remember to introduce your other family members and pets on "neutral" ground. Congratulations on your first steps into Furby Husbandry!

Dear Professor, What do you think of my diagrams?

My my! What excellent diagrams and incredibly well labeled! These are fairly accurate to the Standard "1998" breed! While shedding can be a sign of stress, some individuals do so when a specific trait they are memorphosing to is a large deviation to their current form. Sometimes this is because they simply do not want skin anymore as pointed out! Though this can leave individuals vulnerable as their more delicate inner-parts are fully exposed to the elements. Not many organisms can handle that kind of workload!

A less common, and sadder reason is Fur Rot. A disease, often partially attributed to repeat stress and living in poor condition. Furbies with Fur Rot are often lethargic, have patchy fur, and once they have shed the afflicted skin, it doesn't typically grow it back.

Regardless, if your Furby is suddenly shedding skin; one should always try to see what the underlying cause might be.

And yes, we still aren't 100% what their third "eye" does beyond sensing light. Some hypothesize that it's another method of communication used solely by Furbies.

It's always a good idea to note the traits of a given Furby, such as how compatable they are with other Furbies or animals. This allows the Furby to find the right Caretaker and forever home!

Isabella has been enjoying the Fall foliage! Still as Winter Approaches she finds herself getting a bit sleepy. Personally I also can't help but agree with her!

I believe we've come to an agreement. She shall hence be named Pyrrharctia "Isabella" Lampwyck. Her current hobby is staring at the assortments of lights within our home.
