I’m always amazed how many of the people who realize and say, “You can’t convince a conservative/a Trump supporter/etc with facts” are the same people who, confronted with such rhetoric, start compulsively spewing facts instead of exposing a larger conspiracy that will actually appeal to their audience. I have seen this in person and I have seen it in trained members of the media

Like, I get it, the facts sure seem compelling and compassion feels motivating

But you already know? They won’t? Work?

Yet the same talking points get hit over and over again like they’re trying to win an award for “knowing what’s going on” and “being decent” instead of making progress in what they’re supposedly trying to do in that moment.
