‘Marianne had the sense that her real life was happening somewhere very far away, and she didn’t know if she would ever find out where it was and become part of it’
- normal people by sally rooney
currently thinking about how Harry Styles wrote ‘Matilda’ about Marianne Sheridan from Normal People.
As we head into Acosf, I would like to remind everyone that Feyre and Nesta are 21 and 24, respectively. Feyre would be a senior in college, and Nesta could be in grad school. They’re more or less old college kids.
Keep that in mind while criticizing their actions because, yes, it’s perfectly fine to acknowledge questionable or problematic things they do, but please do not crucify them.
Feyre has a LOT of responsibility and power for her age. She’s more or less Rhys’s equal and he’s had 500+ years of experience.
Nesta has experienced a LOT of trauma for her age. Y’all seem to dislike her actions, but that’s how 24 year olds who are emotionally unequipped to deal with trauma, and have has absolutely ZERO professional aid, cope with things.
So just let them be. Please.
unpopular opinion: if rhys couldnt forgive the sisters for leaving feyre to defend herself he should be angriest at elain, not nesta. freye and nesta will tear themselves apart for her and elain just cries about not getting married and being part of the socialite scene.
nesta pulled her weight all through ACOMAF and ACOWAR and at the end of ACOTAR. she was the only one who went after feyre even tho she doesnt understand anything other than to get her sister back (ugh can u imagine how fucken amazing the story would have been if nesta did get pass the wall?!?), she was the one who asked and listened to feyre and her story, asked her to teach her to paint (aka trying to connect with her, whereas elain never tried to learn/understand feyre and her story. elain was just nice to feyre), fought with the queens directly when they refused to give the book, she was the only one noticing the little things after freye changed into a fae, and then she was the only one who noticed why she drew stars on her dresser! she is protective of elain even as she herself went under and as soon as she got out of the cauldron, she actually came out of her room in the house of wind only when feyre came back from spring court (probs her way of trying to see if her sis is really ok w the IC, feel out who these ppl were, etc), spoke her truth at the meeting w the high lords even tho it was super hard for her, seek out her sister when she felt the wall go down, didn’t want to abandon feyre at the library (and the first thing she does when she sees cassian is to tell him to go to feyre and help her first!), she learned to aid and treat the wounded at the war camp, she literally tries so fucken hard to be there, to understand and to care.
what did fucken elain do? she was a seer and nobody bothered to help her learn things (this is the fault of feyre and IC but still she wasn’t curious about what she could do?) she got her moment when she stabbed the king but everything else? she literally just lets people coddle her. she just sits in her own world, says cryptic shit and thinks about gardening??? like she too was starving back then and her thoughts weren’t on figuring out how to help out?? she has never been described as protective, only agreeable. shes just nice to everyone and she gets a pass??
im actually frustrated by the fact that at no point was feyre mad at elain for being so indulgent. her character is all about being lovely and prob speaks to the theme of despite the hardships she can still find beauty in everything or shes the symbol of beauty that drives the character to protect. but literally every fucken character had to battle their hardships and traumas to protect their own sense of beauty in the world. feyre had to become a huntress to fight for the peace to paint. rhys loves velaris, so he sacrificed himself to amarantha, mor found her peace at the court of dreams but she still has to face her families and court of nightmares to ensure balance between the two, cas and az were nobodies and fought to be powerful Illyrians when everyone said they weren’t shit and to protect their peace they go to these camps, face the taunts and disgust and defend every single day. so ur saying elain just runs to her garden when shes feeling sad???
i cant believe the audacity of elain to down a drink before interacting with nesta at the solstice party! nesta fought for her and made sure elain was ok at every single point in the books and yet elain couldnt fucken handle her in ACOFAS??? nesta was going to sacrifice herself so feyre can get to the cauldron, saw her father die in front of her eyes, she saw cassian almost die and was prob pissed that she was the only defense between the king and cassian, she was on the front lines of the war, esp to help the wounded, and she was involved as much as possible prepping for the war effort! she was obviously dealing w so much shit and nobody gave a rats ass that she’s handling her trauma terribly. elain should have pulled her weight then. she should have been the one who fought for nesta to be ok.
anyways i dont like elain. nesta deserves so much better.
The one thing I hate about SJM’s POVs in ACOTAR
is that the narrator always seems to be completely biased to their own perspectives in a way that they seem to not understand at all what another character might be going through. Which is just UNREALISTIC.
Let me point out all the ways and explain:
None of the IC know that Mor seems to be uncomfortable with Azriel’s unrequited love and that she’s gay, though she frequents a gay bar/restaurant and she’s never shown any feelings towards Azriel and she even actively tries to sleep with other people when he seems to act more on his feelings or show them more fully. Like okay??
In Cassian’s POV, he says that he didn’t know Nesta was aware of how much self-hatred she had and that she didn’t want to exist. Like dude, she spent a year drinking her life away, distancing herself from everyone, and sleeping with randos when she previously had spent most of her adult life not sleeping with anyone and Cassian knew that she was a victim of s*xual a*sa*lt.
Rhysand who he himself has gone through what Nesta has gone through, didn’t know the extent of Nesta’s trauma??? And even after didn’t really care all that much?? To the point where he was constantly an ass and he threatened to kill her when she told Feyre she might die, even though he should have told her because well feminist rhys over here “you always have choices” didn’t give one to his equal.
Amren after constantly saying “reach out your hand” didn’t reach out her hand, nor show any empathy to Nesta, going as far as being more aggressive to this person who is literally suffering from PTSD and severe depression, and then sort of blaming her for letting it get that far, and then when Nesta apologized said this well to do speech about living with darkness inside of us but choosing hope, like it was that easy and as if she helped at all or even deserved that apology.
Mor, wasn’t that bad, comparatively to the rest, because she was barely in the book, but when she was you’re telling me that this girl also doesn’t understand what Nesta could be going through??? That she says that she belongs in the Court of Nightmares, for what reason??? For hurting her friends, which they admit they didn’t help all too much for a whole year because they thought giving her time would have been fine and who also show that they care about Nesta. Because I hate to tell y’all this, but offering to decorate a room is not helping out a person with severe depression. And this is a girl who was raised in the same environment as Mor, who suffered many of the same afflictions of unhappy childhoods and loss of autonomy. Mor who is used to helping women and s*xual a*sa*lt survivors and then doesn’t see that in Nesta????
Rhysand doesn’t seem to understand Azriel’s POV, and then he’s like well he never tells us anything. He’s a tough nut to crack. We know he’s a little bit… ehh how you say–messed up, but well we don’t see a major problem as long as he gets his rage out being our spymaster. But oh no, Elain, you can’t have her. You think you deserve her, even though critical thinking skills might have found him thinking oh hey this guy is probably envious of the happiness we have, he’s probably feeling lonely, rejected from the person he’s loved a long time, both of his brothers have mates now, maybe I should talk to him like a BROTHER and less like a high lord.
And then in Nesta’s POV, all of her healing comes at the expense of blaming herself. Like I understand taking accountability and she needed to grow and learn that she has definitely ruined a lot of her relationships and she’ll continue to do so if she keeps up this behavior, but you’re telling me that she doesn’t think anyone did her wrong??? You’re telling me that she feels she deserves all of this?? Even after she starts liking who she is, everyone was not at fault, it was only her fault??? Even after Cassian said what he said–being stuck with her???
You’re telling me that everyone thinks Elain is fine??? That she’s relatively at peace because she’s calm and gardening and pleasant??? Makes me laugh.
Like I just don’t understand. It’s to the point where I feel they characters are willfully ignorant OR that SJM thinks that POVs can’t read emotion in other people or connect dots. All POVs are biased, but NOT that biased. A real person talking to someone else will notice how tired a person looks, if they want to talk or not, by the grimaces, by the way they shorten their sentences, their body language, you can reach conclusions based on context. “It’s been a long day at work, I learned that this person has a new baby, this conversation looks to be weighing on them, I should probably cut this convo short, because I feel for them.” That sort of thing. Which is my biggest problem with this series is that I’m like fuck me, why Whhy WHYYY??? They don’t seem to even see each other, let alone understand each other, and if they can’t understand each other or know who they are, they are not considered family!!! The characters in this series make choices like they are blind to the people around them. That they exist only in their own head. Which again is not realistic, but also causes a lot of problems that I don’t feel would be fixable if you were not aware that they were problems. Like I can easily say, “hey maybe SJM did this on purpose because she’s leading up to something, to heal them in some way.” But all characters are like this–so it’s make me wonder if SJM knows that she’s doing it. Like we thought Feyre was a horribly biased character, but damn. Like I understand this imperfect character arc, but at this point are they imperfect or stupid?
Don’t get me wrong I love this series, but wow… it’s been three years for this next part, she’s written a thousand and one books, it should be better. Every single one of us has pointed out inconsistencies, and they’re not just small things, they’re big overarching writer mechanics and structure and plot and details. So I can hope that eventually it will lead to something, but after four books… I’m losing hope that the issues we’ve pointed out and not just this one are going to be resolved and not just glossed over like they didn’t happen at all.
It’s an adult book, my word. Make narratives more narratively complicated. (Especially if the plot is not the focus)
honestly i think if some fae man hundreds of years older than my baby sister with a wack ass power dynamic willingly and knowingly knocked her up in a dangerous form before she was even in her mid twenties after she said she wanted time up herself before having kids and didn't tell her anything about how the birth would kill her before it was entirely too late to do anything about it (literally like thirty minutes before the baby was born)
i would go to jail for murder
I’m just saying— it seems a little sus to me that Aelin, Amren, and Nesta lost their powers (or some of it), but the men around them or a reason they did so got away almost or completely skate free. Sarah… what’s happening?
Can we talk about what R/hysand did to F/eyre before, during, and after UTM? What that looked like to everyone else, and how just how traumatizing it would have been for F/eyre and even T/amlin?
trigger warning: s*xual assault, physical violence, drugging. handle with care! sorry for typos!
Before UTM:
R/hysand, unprovoked, visits T/amlin to chastise him instead of conspiring with him. He walks in, and realizes that there's somebody else staying with him, and then threatens L/ucien's mother. All of this while being on his own, without any of A/marantha's cronies around him. He realizes that there's somebody in there with both T/amlin and L/ucien, and then it is revealed that the guest is F/eyre -- his mate.
Now, R/hysand is faced with several opportunities.
[1] He can walk away from the manor, say that he found nothing and return back to A/marantha. He can lie -- something he already did on Calanmai. Mind you, R/hysand asked A/marantha to come to the Spring Court, not to help, but to see F/eyre. Not to help, to aid, or to do anything, but to frolic.
[2] He can pull T/amlin aside, curtly -- they don't have to be cordial -- and tell him that it would be in his best interest to get F/eyre out of P/rythian. He can either tell T/amlin or just tell F/eyre that there is vague darkness in the land, and T/amlin is powerless to stop it. He could even be mean if it's a dire situation.
[3] He could just speak to F/eyre directly in her mind, and tell her that there's danger coming -- or he can talk to T/amlin mind to mind. He can show T/amlin A/marantha's plan with his mind daemati abilities, show him information that's pivotal. And seeing as T/amlin is actually a good leader at this point, I don't think there wouldn't be any debate.
But he doesn't do any of those things. None. You know what he does?
He insults F/eyre's mortal status, insults the status of lesser Fae as a whole. He makes T/amlin bow as he infiltrates F/eyre's mind, his mental touch bordering on s*xual assault. He then tells F/eyre's deepest desires to her shame, humiliating her in front of everyone. He leaves F/eyre almost sobbing, he nearly kills her. He does all of this without ever revealing (a) why he does it and (b) that there's a threat coming. Because what if T/amlin hadn't sent F/eyre home??? And if he knew that T/amlin had enough love and common sense in regards to F/eyre -- why could he not just tell F/eyre???
But more important, R/hysand's abuse would have horrible effects, realistically. F/eyre should have been traumatized at her mind being invaded. At her body not being hers to control -- and I say that because that's literally how she feels with T/amlin in MAF. How the hell does she not for R/hysand?? Because they're mAtEs???
But let's look at what that looks like for T/amlin and L/ucien? It looks like R/hysand is abusing her in front of him, controlling her mind, something that actually matters when discussing T/amlin's response to R/hysand during MAF. And I haven't even gotten to his behavior UTM.
During UTM:
R/hysand knows that L/ucien is helping F/eyre heal UTM, but then mocks both L/ucien and T/amlin when A/marantha makes T/am whip L/ucien. He laughs at F/eyre's pain. He does this when no one is around.
Instead of helping F/eyre, he lashes out grabs her bone, and twists her bone until she nearly passes out, he does this to make her agree to his bargain -- which is a self-indulgent one.
He then marks F/eyre's skin, without her permission to locks her into a bargain that is to last her lifetime.
Later, he and his attendants dress F/eyre up -- to the point where she is nearly nude, pains her skin, and parades her in front of the entire seven courts.
R/hysand drugs F/eyre, and gropes her all night. Even when she is sore and aching, she is still forced to dance. And when F/eyre doesn't want to drink, R/hysand forces her to drink the wine. He degrades and humiliates her in front of all of the courts.
And then he puts her in the cell -- while she's still basically naked -- and subjects her to the brutal cold. It's so sad because it takes L/ucien to relate the events of the night to F/eyre. And it's only because L/ucien comes that she gets something to wear. Because of the wine F/eyre drinks, she can even keep the little food she gets down.
He then forces himself on F/eyre, and kisses her, and only apologizes for -- "not making it good for her" not because it was...idk, wrong!!
Not only that, R/hysand's plan keeps A/marantha's eyes on her at all times. He does this, every night, in front of T/amlin and the entire court, and T/amlin should just be...okay with him???
So much of the trauma and pain F/eyre faced UTM was caused and facilitated by Rhysand, yet people say that T/am and L/ucien were horrible UTM??
T/am's silence quite literally saved F/eyre's life. It was the best strategy because A/marantha didn't pay attention to F/eyre until she was made R/hysand's "plaything" -- something the story literally admits (there's an honest to god quote). T/am's indifference saved F/eyre's life! And L/ucien helped F/eyre because T/am asked him to. That's also something that's literally quoted in the text. I love L/ucien, but he admits the main reason he was helping was because he T/am made him swear to protect her (remember, L/ucien was standoffish towards her because he wanted her to stay longer to break the curse).
And I'm just confused on why SJM figured R/hysand's antics were anywhere near helpful. She even states how logical T/am's reasoning was, and then she makes F/eyre angry about it?
Yet, F/eyre is only selectively sad about what happened UTM. Which is purely SJM refusing to hold R/hysand accountable for his actions. She never addresses as she makes F/eyre "fall in love" with R/hysand. F/eyre is ready to accept R/hysand without him ever explaining himself. She's angrier at the Spring Court citizens than she ever is at R/hysand. It takes R/hysand to seek her out before F/eyre ever asks about his behavior. Like, eww.
But everyone saw him treat her like that. It's so unrealistic that Tarquin isn't suspicious of F/eyre being with Rhysand after he did all of that in front of everyone. Everyone should be very wary of that after seeing him do that to her UTM. Everyone saw that. Like how the hell is every just like -- "seems cool to me". Tarquin doesn't think that looks crazy? That R/hysand literally threatening him not to tell T/am that F/eyre is at the Summer Court is super sus? That he may be controlling her mind???
I'll continue this later when I talk about R/hysand's abuse after TAR (because he's still abusive in MAF and WAR -- especially).
The way people talk about R/hysand just makes me so annoyed because I just can't understand how T/am and Even L/ucien are seen as evil when we literally have R/HYSAND.
I absolutely hate amren.
when she compared feyre with tamlin.
the horrendous thing she said to nesta.
how she treated cassian.
i hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate her
Rhysand, every time someone dares to speak ill or treat bad Nesta from now on.

Summary: Nesta tells Feyre what the baby’ll do to her when she gives birth and regrets it as soon as the words leave her mouth. This chapter is a long one and it’s all about being sisters. They would die and kill for each other, we know that, that was never doubted, but where is the scene where they talk like real sisters? Here.

The next part will be Cassian’s pov from this chapter, which was in the book. I’ve said this already, but my intention is that you can simply pick this rewrite and exchange it with the one in the book and still have all the events before and after match, so I think rewriting his pov is necessary for consistency. That’s also why Nesta is still feeling lost by the end of this: that’s how she felt until they went to the lake.
Nesta snarled, but Feyre stepped between them, hands raised. “This conversation ends now. Nesta, go back to the House. Amren, you …” She hesitated, as if considering the wisdom of ordering Amren around. Feyre finished carefully, “You stay here.”
Nesta let out a low laugh. “You are her High Lady. You don’t need to cater to her. Not when she now has less power than any of you.”
Feyre’s eyes blazed. “Amren is my friend, and has been a member of this court for centuries. I offer her respect.”
“Is it respect that she offers you?” Nesta spat. “Is it respect that your mate offers you?”
Feyre went still.
Amren warned, “Don’t you say one more fucking word , Nesta Archeron.”
Feyre asked, “What do you mean?”
And Nesta didn’t care. Couldn’t think around the roaring. “Have any of them told you, their respected High Lady, that the babe in your womb will kill you?”
Amren barked, “Shut your mouth!”
But her order was confirmation enough. Face paling, Feyre whispered again, “What do you mean?”
“The wings,” Nesta seethed. “The boy’s Illyrian wings will get stuck in your Fae body during the labor, and it will kill you both.”
Silence rippled through the room, the world.
Feyre breathed, “Madja just said the labor would be risky. But the Bone Carver … The son he showed me didn’t have wings.” Her voice broke. “Did he only show me what I wanted to see?”
“I don’t know,” Nesta said. “But I do know that your mate ordered everyone not to inform you of the truth.” She turned to Amren. “Did you all vote on that, too? Did you talk about her, judge her, and deem her unworthy of the truth? What was your vote, Amren? To let Feyre die in ignorance? Or maybe he simply gave the order and you all obeyed your High Lord’s command, dismissing the new High Lady” Before Amren could reply, Nesta turned back to her sister. “Didn’t you question why your precious, perfect Rhysand has been a moody bastard for weeks? Because he knows you will die. He knows, and yet he still didn’t tell you.”
Feyre began shaking. “If I die …” Her gaze drifted to one of her tattooed arms. She lifted her head, eyesbright with tears as she asked Amren, “You … all of you knew this?”
Amren threw a withering glare in Nesta’s direction, but said, “We did not wish to alarm you. Fear can be as deadly as any physical threat.”
“Rhys knew?” Tears spilled down Feyre’s cheeks, smearing the paint splattered there. “About the threat to our lives?” She peered down at herself, at the tattooed hand cradling her abdomen.
And Nesta knew then that she had not once in her life been loved by her mother as much as Feyre already loved the boy growing within her. It broke something in Nesta—broke that rage, that roaring—seeing those tears begin to fall, the fear crumpling Feyre’s paint-smeared face.
She had gone too far. She … Oh, gods.
Amren said, “I think it is best, girl, if you speak to Rhysand about this.”
Nesta couldn’t bear it—the pain and fear and love on Feyre’s face as she caressed her stomach.
Amren growled at Nesta, “I hope you’re content now.”
Nesta didn’t respond. Didn’t know what to say or do with herself. “Don’t talk to my sister like that” Feyre snarled, the sorrow so obvious in her voice that the only thing Nesta could do was turn on her heel and ran from the apartment.
Nesta run down to the street, but she didn’t even know where to go. Feyre’s steps resonated behind her. Nesta could hear her voice calling her, too, but she muted the sound in her head.
She wanted to disappear, to stop existing, that’s what she wanted to do.
Then she heard the pair of wings in the air, aiming towards her in such speed that frightened her a little. Cassian was above her, barely five feet from where she was, but Feyre gripped her arm before he could land, and they vanished.

this was so good omg.. everything about this 🥺🥺
ACOSF SPOILERS
-
It was so fucking hard reading Nesta comparing herself to Tamlin and saying she didn’t deserves Feyre’s love. She doesn’t deserve this.
Idfc but this book made me love Nesta and Feyre even more.
Honestly Feyres reaction to being told the news by Nesta is a huge fuck you to anyone who said Feyre was bland or boring now. She just showed your asses that she’s still a resilient fucking queen- high lady. She’s still an understanding selfless loving and intelligent person that y’all shit on for bandwagon purposes and it’s disgustinnnnng. Where is the pretentiousness and abusive tendencies now? Where is her wanting to buy out her problems or hate her family? Fuck y’all. Just because she found love doesn’t mean she’s a good person to shit on. Your fave Nesta would absolutely claw your eyes out if she saw your disgusting words about her sister. Also Feyre loves Nesta so much. Idk how some of y’all didn’t see this before but it’s so obvious and I’m in my sister feels bcs Nesta loves her so much as well
Archeron sister’s aesthetic.
