As I prepare to attend the third and final day of The Fest For Beatles Fans in Chicago, I’m feeling grateful and nostalgic for how much this event has changed my life since I started going in 2010. In case you’re not familiar with this Beatles Fest, it’s an annual three day convention held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel near Chicago that’s dedicated to all things Beatles. Each year (and this is its 42nd anniversary!!), they host tons of special guests who worked with or were relatives of The Beatles and they have dozens of other activities like concerts, art exhibits, author signings, contests, battle of the bands, panel discussions, workshops, dance parties, trivia gameshows, yoga/meditation classes, Beatles zumba, poetry slams, late night jams and so so so much more.
I remember my reaction the first time I stepped into the fest; it was just around the time when I “discovered” 60s music and spent all my time researching 60s pop culture and listening to the music and spending all my lawn-mowing money on dresses from 1964. While the 60s were a politically and socially tumultuous time and while I believe a lot of people romanticize the era, the pop culture remains a true passion of mine. My over-emotional, almost cathartic reaction to my first Beatles fest is something I look back on fondly with an amused sort of nostalgia. I was, and still am, so blessed and happy to be able to attend such an event where I’ve met such incredible people with a commonality that is so important to me (I’m not just talking about The Beatles, but about an infatuation with music in general). These conventions are the best memories I’ve had in my life and I’ll attend as long as they continue.
Here’s a pic of me ready to attend the third and final day of the convention this year! Definitely check it out if you're in the Midwest. They also have an east coast fest in NYC in the spring! Happy Beatles-ing
“August 11, 1964: The High Numbers, (later to become The Who), played at The Railway Hotel in Harrow, England. Just before the band were due on stage, Roger Daltry's father-in law came into the venue and dragged the singer outside and hit him. The band started their set and Daltry appeared back on stage after the fight.”

Three rare images from A Hard Day’s Night: A Private Archive (to be published September 2016). The images are from A Hard Day’s Night producer Walter Shenson’s collection and author Mark Lewisohn added an engaging introduction and epilogue as well as image captions. Richard Lester, the film's Director, wrote the foreword.

Hi, all! Sorry for my prolonged absence. School got the best of me during finals. If there’s any content (whether it be photos of musicians or models from the 60s or more music posts or more fashion or history posts etc) that you’d like to see on my blog, feel free to drop me a line!

Hi, all! A short interruption here so that I can ask you all to take several minutes and fill out this quick survey about your record-buying habits. A friend of mine is launching a startup that presses live concerts to vinyl and he would really appreciate your input.
Thank ya and now back to the show :-)

“A Leo and a Scorpio on stage at Balboa Stadium (San Diego, CA) in 1969. CSNY did an early concert there in the afternoon which made it perfect to take a lot of pictures. Here's David Crosby and Neil Young from behind the stage. David's doing the two finger salute, instead of the usual one finger salute. My friend Steve Ross says the one finger salute means ‘Unity. We are all one!’” -Henry Diltz, photographer
