“There was this explosion at the end and holy shit it was literally the best movie I’ve ever seen.”
beautybutabibliophile:
In exchange for feeling so anxious, she had been drinking tea like it was about to go out of style. It had become such a common occurrence for Belle to have a mug of tea in her hands that earlier in the week a nurse had stopped to check on her because she was seen without one. After her morning walk out in the gardens, Belle made her way into the kitchen where she put a kettle of water on the stove for a cup, and leaned against the counter as the water began to boil, reading a worn out copy of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.
“Bellerina!” Keiton shouted from just outside the kitchen, “Long time, no talk.” He added, turning towards her with a smile as he headed into the small room. “You look awful.”
beautybutabibliophile:
Hearing the honesty and pain in his voice made Belle want to retract her rejection of his joke about crawling into bed with her after a nightmare. Sometimes human contact was just that necessary. “Well..” she started, not really knowing where she was going it it, “just know that I’ll be there for you, then.”
“I appreciate it. But don’t feel burdened to hold my hand if I’m freaking out. That’s just apart of me now. I can be a big boy and handle it on my own.”
beautybutabibliophile:
“You know, tea may actually help calm your nerves much better than alcohol. Night caps are nice, but a cup of chamomile tea is much better. You should try it.”
“Belle, baby, please. I wish tea could soothe the tremens, but nothing works. The doctors have it proven. Unless I detox and stay sober for months--possibly years, I won’t be cured. And it’s painful. It’s so fucking painful.”
marybethmuerte:
She laughs at that, ruffling his hair now that’s she can actually reach, “If you’re still interested when you’re no longer intoxicated to the high heavens then sure, sweetheart, we’ll give it a go.”
She traced a line down his nose with a finger, giving him a little boop on the tip, “You might’ve seen my sister. She’s a nice girl but very naive, go easy on her.”
“There’s two of you--Oh yeah. I did meet her. She’s pretty. You’re pretty. Your parents must be pretty.” Keiton stared up at the girl in disbelief. “Are you new? Is she new?”
marybethmuerte:
“Clean up after yourself, or use disposable dishes. Got it.” Mary Beth a little checkmark in the air with her finger, then immediately felt like a giant dork for doing it, “I looked up all kinds of legislation and stuff before checking in here but I didn’t bother to check anything about fraternisation. I didn’t think it would matter. I mean, for me it won’t, obviously, but… I don’t know, it’s good to know things?
“I don’t think anyone does.” Keiton said, stifling a laugh at her cute little check mark. “If you want to know if you can fuck someone around here, then I’d suggest just asking for consent and age. Maybe not in that order. Definitely see how old they are before putting any moves on them.”
beautybutabibliophile:
She laughed, “Okay we’ll have to see about that one. They’ll be case by case situations.”
“Uh, but in all reality. If it seems like I’m freaking the fuck out in the middle of the night, uh, just wake me up and I’ll take a few shots and go back to bed.”
beautybutabibliophile:
“No, it’s fine. I’m okay with it. But we are living together now, so I’ll definitely let you know if a line is crossed. Promise.” She told him. Her face fell a little at the end of his story. “I’m sorry.. That’s.. crushing to a kid. I guess you’ve just got to start making some new stories and maybe we’ll have to venture off to the zoo sometime.”
“So, I’m assuming that means if I have a bad dream, I can’t crawl into bed with you?” Keiton gave her his signature puppy dog eyes.
beautybutabibliophile:
“I tell you I think you have a kind heart and good intentions and you’re worried about me having a problem with you flirting?” She shook her head at him. “Yeah, knowledge of fairytale stories of princesses in far off kingdoms and swashbuckling sword fights and things of a child’s dream bedtime story. and of course some Oscar Wild and oh, The Importance of Being Earnest is always a good one.” she rambled, “Oops.. I’m doing the thing again, sorry.. but you’ve got to know some stories that don’t involve a night out with the guys.”
“Well, yeah. I mean I know I’m a little over the top, but I consider us to be close and I’d honestly hate for anything I say or do to make you uncomfortable. If you aren’t interested in my flirting then I can stop--I just always found it fun to flirt with pretty girls.” He let out a small wink before running his hands through his hair. “I think you’re smart, Belle--really smart and I wish I could be that kind of smart.” Keiton hesitated, trying to think of a good story to tell that didn’t involve drinking, drugs, sex or anything of the sort. “Once... Once I went to a zoo. My parents rented out the place for me and my pals. I was about six--no, seven. I had about 100 friends come. And by friends they were mostly just people in the social circle. Anyways, we went to the zoo and I was so excited because at the end of the day I was going to get to pet a monkey. It’s all I talked about; through the lions and tigers and elephants and hippos--all I cared about was petting that monkey.” Keiton stopped. “My dad got a business call and we had to leave early--my friends all took pictures with the monkey and told me all about him though.”
marybethmuerte:
“What? Oh! I meant if we could eat in the kitchen or our rooms instead of communally, sorry,” Mary Beth became a little flustered, gesturing with her hands as she spoke, “I wasn’t really- and aren’t patient-staff liaisons illegal?”
“Oh, fuck. Yeah, dude. You can totally eat wherever you want, but they hate seeing the dishes everywhere, so people usually just use the paper plates.” Keiton laughed, nodding. “Yeah, they’re like looked down on. I don’t know if they’re illegal, but I know it’s fucked up.”
beautybutabibliophile:
“None of the stories are mine, though. They’re all someone else’s work.” she said quietly, glancing down as he went on. She wasn’t sure how to respond for a moment, “thanks,” was all she could manage. “You know,” she looked back up at him. “whether or not your dad likes you doesn’t have to define who you are. And for what it’s worth, I don’t think that’s all you are. You’re my friend, you’re my roommate now! You’re kind, and while you’ve been a little outwardly flirtatious, I don’t believe you have bad intentions. You’ve got a good heart, Keiton.”
“Are you implying you have a problem with my flirtatiousness?” Keiton asked, momentarily changing the subject before rocking on the balls of his feet. “I just think it’s cool that you have knowledge of all the stories and the only stories I have end with me passed out at a bar. Grass is always greener type thing, I suppose.”
beautybutabibliophile:
“Well I can use a flashlight or a lamp, or even read by a fire,” she replied, “though reading by a fire can be tricky sometimes depending on where you’re sitting and the light is inconsistent.” A typical Belle explaining something having to do with reading answer. “And just some days are good and you fear that the next might not be as good so you don’t want the night to come. Sometimes nights bring change.” she shrugged, “But you shouldn’t envy me. I’m not that special.”
“Oh look at me, I’m Belle and I’m not special, but my mind is literally bursting with stories, my face is one thousand percent the most beautiful thing in the world and my heart is the sweetest.” Keiton joked, turning to face away--his heart sinking. “I’m just a stoner drunk with a rich daddy who hates me.”
nursexsnow:
“Well I am a nurse. But everyone here tells me I’m not. They say I hurt my patients accidentally, but between you and me I think it’s all a hoax, a test if you will. They try and tell me I’m delusional, but I know their wrong. What about you? You seem kind of crazy, but your wasted so I guess it’s not a good time to judge.”
“I would be crazy to get wasted on the job, so yes I’m a crazy person.” Keiton smiled, “Keiton Majick, substance abuse due to Delirum Tremens otherwise known as The Horrors or The Shakes.” He walked around the girl, eyeing her suspiciously. “Are you sure you aren’t crazy. Maybe delusions of grandeur.”
marybethmuerte:
“Most people do,” La Muerte leans back on her stool, raising her eyebrows, “That’s sweet of you, sugar, but I’m pretty sure you can’t consent in your state. And that’s not my style.”
“How about we wait until I sober up then?” Keiton smirked, falling to his knees in front of her. “What about that, yeah?” Letting his eyes wander, the very very high man couldn’t help, but smile. “I haven’t seen you before, have I?”
beautybutabibliophile:
“Hmm.” Belle thought for a moment as she listened to his reasoning. “I like that.. Yeah, I think I like them both, too, for different reasons. The start of a new day is typically rejuvenating, and with sunsets they bring about a closure to the day, which is nice. And they’re both pretty. Sometimes you don’t want a day to end, though.. so sunsets can be a little bittersweet.”
“What kind of days don’t you want to end?” Keiton had turned to watch the girl instead of the sunset. “It’s different for me. You need the light to read and I want the dark to drink. I envy you sometimes. A lot of the time.”
marybethmuerte:
That startled a laugh out of Mary Beth, sudden enough that she snorted through her nose - and immediately went bright red with shame. She covered her face with her hands, looked up again, gave him a sheepishly embarrassed smile, and linked her arm through his.
“I heard there’s a cafeteria? Do you know if we’re required to eat there, and at certain times, or if we can pick and choose?”
“We have to stay here. Unless there’s like a doctor willing to take you out. Not in a datey way. That would be weird, but I do hear rumors. Anyways, yeah it’s mostly just here. Self-sufficient.”
nursexsnow:
Snows eyes widened slightly as he spoke. “I would definitely say you are wasted. I didn’t know the staff allowed that.” She said looking over. “Nice to meet you Keiton. I’m Mary Margaret, but many people just call me snow. It’s pleasure to meet you. ”
“They don’t allow us to drink. Are you staff? Are you a patient? I don’t see your badge, but you don’t look too crazy.”
