I have a question for the actors- if you guys were one of the 43 children randomly born on on October 1st, 1989, what would you want your powers to be? Would it be the same as the characters you play?

(p.s- I love this show so much and the acting is phenomenal!)

is it just me but it feels like five got dumbed down and nerfed the most in terms of his powers? Five didn’t see Ben steal the marigold, he didn’t figure out the CIA was part of the keepers but Luther did? What? No hate to Luther at all, I love that oaf but it doesn’t feel like FIVE!

Not to mention he was the ONLY one whose powers weren’t working or he couldn’t use to his advantage? Like what? Five? FIVE??? He should’ve figured out the teleporting thing. He should’ve figured out the subway. One opportunity I think the writers didn’t use is as the seasons progress five gains a deeper understanding of time travel and he’s able to figure it out more and more, so it comes full circle from s1 when he got stuck in the apocalypse because he didn’t understand time travel, but they don’t do that!! Like is this the same five who figured out what the sigil was in the s3 finale?

One reason I loved five was his intelligence but it doesn’t feel like it in s4

Ok so i noticed that in the last two seasons they really toned down fives unhinged behavior and wild facial expressions and i am not having it. The first two seasons showed an incredible range of intense emotions from five as well as the range of Aidan's acting, which seasond three and four seem to lack. It really feels like they abandoned his character in those seasons too, which many people have pointed out, but it also feels like they abandoned the wild, erratic energy from his character - and we all know that man is off the rails - in favor of making him more attractive. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but i just KNOW they were waiting for Aidan Gallagher to turn 18 so they could give him some kind of creepy barely legal sex appeal, and throw him into a romantic relationship with whoever was closest to him. It was very clear in seasons one and two that five was simultaneously a tired old man and a feral teenager. He acted both of his ages and didn't care how people saw him besides his stoic facade. In the past seasons he just feels like a slightly over mature twenty year old and not actually like an old man, because the viewers wouldn't find that as attractive. this is honestly the best explanation i could find or come up with that would describe the major shift in characterization for five. The writers clearly don't care about the characters anymore, and are just relying on shock value and sex appeal to keep their viewers hooked, which is also how we got that weird little five and lila pairing. They could have just made them grow closer as friends and family members but that wouldn't have had as much shock to it as a both characters abandoning things that were previously so dear to them with no explanation other than "they were lonely and near each other".

Let me know your opinions because I'm honestly at a loss, even here I'm not quite sure what I'm talking about. All i know is, the whole show would have been better off without season four.

The umbrella academy's final season destroyed every character's personal growth and semi-healed traumas, left huge plot-holes, completely abandoned some of it's most beloved side characters that were crucial in previous seasons and you're laugh-oh. And another thing, why is everything so stupidly inconsistent? Why does Blackman insist on adding nonsensical plot points for the sake of convenience?

Let’s take the marigold for example. How exactly did they get it? I know the timelines were blending together or whatever, but that explanation is too vague and it doesn’t make sense. And why was the marigold wonky? Why didn’t it give them back their original powers? Am I missing something? Why was Allison suddenly able to not only mind control people, but blast them back?? Viktor’s powers have nothing to do with sound and energy anymore. Lila can shoot beams from her eyes but she can still mimic? Like what? And Klaus can float now, but it was used exactly….once. In the finale. And conveniently enough, Five was the only one who didn’t get a power upgrade, or the only one who couldn’t figure out his own powers (even though it’s not different at all and it’s literally still BLINKING) because they needed him to end up in some time travel subway that we don’t know who made or why it was made

There are no rules, no consistencies, no cohesiveness. Plot points are just thrown in for the sake of convenience, not because they actually make sense or work with the overall vision of the story

One defense I’ve seen for the Five Lila thing from Blackman and the few people I’ve seen online ship it is ‘they’ve been together for 7 years. What did you expect? This was a natural outcome’

Aside from the obvious answer that Five has been stuck in an apocalypse for 45 years before, and still did everything in his power to get back to his family, that reasoning makes absolutely no sense because Blackman could’ve just not written that entire plot line altogether. He says it as if his hands are tied, as if HE is not the head writer on the show. If a plot point makes you write another plot point that completely assassinates your characters, then maybe don’t…write that plot point to begin with?
