Biography
Jade has spent her entire life being afraid of what she could do. Unlike many powered individuals who discovered their abilities through moments of heroism or survival, Jade’s powers emerged through emotion: A childhood nightmare that caused every light in her home to explode; A moment of grief that made objects move without being touched; A desperate wish that came true in a way she never intended.
Her abilities were never predictable. They were never simple. They were chaos magic. A force that does not follow traditional rules of physics, logic, or even reality itself. Jade does not create miracles. She alters possibilities, bends probability... She makes the impossible happen, but never without consequence.
Growing up with an ability she could barely understand, Jade learned quickly that fear followed power. People were fascinated by what she could do until they realized they could not control it. Then fascination became suspicion, which became fear. And fear, then, became distance. So Jade became careful. She stopped showing people what she was capable of. She learned to hide behind sarcasm, silence, and the reputation of being strange rather than dangerous. It was easier to let people think she was odd. It was harder to let them think she was powerful.
After the Cinder Incident and the collapse of trust toward powered people, Jade refused to join any faction: The Glass wanted to understand her abilities; The Current wanted to know whether she could be relied upon; The Grid wanted to know whether she could help; Jade wanted none of them.
She had seen what happened when people with power convinced themselves they were doing the right thing. She had watched heroes become criminals, protectors become rulers, and good intentions become excuses. So she chose neutrality. Not because she doesn't care - because she cares too much.
As a mystic, Jade works outside the faction system, studying supernatural phenomena, helping those affected by unstable powers, and dealing with problems most people do not even know exist. Her work is strange with her methods being stranger. Some people seek her out for answers, whilst others seek her out because they believe she can fix things that cannot be fixed. And sometimes she can. Other time, not so much. And sometimes the price of changing something is far worse than accepting it.
Jade's relationship with the other factions is complicated: The Glass sees her as an unpredictable variable; The Current sees her as someone who needs structure; The Grid sees her as someone who belongs with the forgotten. Jade sees all of them as people who have forgotten how dangerous power can be when nobody questions themselves. That does not mean she hates them, it means she understands them. And that might be the most dangerous thing about her.
With the annual faction meeting approaching, Jade has emerged from hiding for the first time in months. Rumors have spread that she knows something is coming; something beyond the usual political conflict between the Glass, Current, and Grid. Whether that is true or not is impossible to know because Jade Rook has always been good at one thing: Making sure nobody knows what she is thinking.
Personality
Jade Rook is contradiction personified. She is gentle but intimidating, quiet but impossible to ignore, guarded but deeply emotional beneath every carefully constructed wall. She also feels everything intensely. Every loss, betrayal, injustice. Her greatest strength and greatest weakness are the same thing: she cares.
Jade is adaptive because she has had to be. She learned early that survival meant changing, adjusting, and becoming whatever version of herself the situation required.
She can be charming when she needs information, but cold when she needs protection. She also hold the ability to be soft when someone earns it. Despite her mysterious reputation, Jade is not cruel. She is actually deeply compassionate, often helping people who have nowhere else to turn. She understands what it feels like to be feared for something you cannot control. But she is also cautious.Trust does not come easily. She has been treated like a weapon too many times to willingly place herself in someone else's hands.
Socially, Jade tends to linger at the edge of rooms, observing before participating. She notices everything: body language, tone shifts, hidden motives. She rarely believes someone is exactly what they appear to be, because she knows better than anyone that appearances can be changed.
At her core, Jade is someone trying to answer one question: If you have the power to change reality, how do you know when you should?
She does not want to rule the world. She does not want to be worshiped. She just wants to prove that having the power to break everything does not mean she has to.
