MBTI Houses

Hufflepuff: SJ’s - Loyal to those they love, doing what needs to be done, no matter how difficult it is or how much work it requires.

Ravenclaw: NF’s - Endlessly creative and innovative, seeing new patterns and life in things previously bland, reworking ideas and frameworks until they fit their vision.

Gryffindor: SP’s - In touch with the world around them, pragmatically responding to the situation at hand in accordance to their code, even when their actions are unexpected or unorthodox.

Slytherin: NT’s - Use reason to their advantage, be that in logically working through a problem/idea or creatively reasoning with other people, thrive on finding unique perspectives on any situation.

Broadly, this is how I see the four mbti ‘categories.’ Each type individually, I could see a couple different ways, though.

The Houses as Lord Huron Albums:

Hufflepuff: Lonesome Dreams - deep love and loyalty to a person, place, or way of life and working tirelessly to keep it; desiring adventure, augmented by the presence and devotion of those one loves and admires; struggling to balance and combine aspects of life one wants to keep when they do not mesh well; finding the way back to where one is meant to be; “There’s a world that was meant for our eyes to see…please don’t say I’m going alone.”

Ravenclaw: Long Lost - freedom to think as one will; the light surety of being at peace with one’s thoughts after such a journey to get there; longing for an intellectual equal to share ideas with forever; hoping loved ones will appreciate one’s found wisdom and truth, even if they are a little out there; “I might stay in my mind for a couple of years, face all my fears.”

Gryffindor: Strange Trails - taking bold actions to go after what one wants, despite the consequences; belief in justice and wanting to see it realized; appreciating a challenge and not backing down when the situation looks impossible, but perhaps not knowing when to let things go and feeling a sense of guilt and defeat if having done so; enjoying the moment and what the present has to offer, be that love, adventure, or novelty, whatever else may lie ahead; “I know I should’ve never looked back, but you ain’t gonna win a woman’s heart like that.”

Slytherin: Vide Noir - Ok yes green and black but beyond that; loyalty to one loved and lost, to the point of obsession; being jaded with the deeper truths of life and trying to make one’s own meaning in a way that matters, sometimes taking drastic measures to do so; having the drive and ambition to do something meaningful but being lost not knowing what that thing is and wondering if it matters anyway; “Tell me, how does a man change the universe?”

Sirius - Guilty as Sin?

“Am I allowed to cry?” Sirius feels like it is his fault James and Lily are dead, debating if he even has the right to feel grief.

“I dream of crackin' locks” He still longs to break out of Azkaban and chase the happiness he once had.

“Throwin' my life to the wolves or the ocean rocks” In the years after Halloween 1981, Remus throws his life to the wolves, and Sirius throws his to the ocean rocks, both gambling to survive and come out better on the other side.

“Crashin' into him tonight, he's a paradox” Sirius refers to Remus as a paradox multiple times throughout their years together. Especially after Azkaban, he is not sure what to expect but crashes back into him all the same.

“I'm seeing visions. Am I bad or mad or wise?” Sirius does not know what to make of life or himself after Azkaban. He still feels guilty about James and Lily and letting Peter get away. He is also angry and feeling crazy, but he has a clear vision on what he thinks needs to happen: catch Peter (wisdom?)

“Oh, what a valiant roar, What a bland goodbye, The coward claimed he was a lion.” This screams Peter’s betrayal. The marauders had such a roaring legacy and so much spirit for fighting the war and protecting one another, but everything ended so blandly, so anticlimactically. They were all just. Gone. They did not get the adulthood or future they expected, and Peter was a major catalyst for this. A coward in Gryffindors’ clothing.

Every time I listen to this song, I find something else about them!

“Mr. ‘Steal your girl,’ then make her cry.” Young Sirius. No further explanation needed.

“Who’s gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames if we know the steps anyway?” After Sirius escapes from Azkaban.

“I thought I was better safe than starry eyed.” So Remus. Could be after The Prank or later on.

“I’ve felt a glow like this never before and ever since.” They were it for each other. No other love ever felt the same, before or after they got together, even after over a decade apart.

“Still alive, killing time at the cemetery. Never quite buried.” Remus could never stop loving Sirius in his mind, even as he was ‘killing time’ in Azkaban. So much of their time was wasted in those years, but their love was never quite buried. I think this line could also apply to how neither of them are able to let James and Lily go, no matter how much time has passed. They keep going back to their golden years, never quite having moved on.

“If you know it in one glimpse, it’s legendary. What we thought was for all time was momentary.” I think this could apply to wolfstar or just the marauders in general. They knew from the beginning that they should all be friends, and they left such a legendary legacy (something they prized). Going into the war, they were young and thought they were invincible in way, going on another adventure. They thought they would last forever. However, they were heartbreakingly momentary, whether you see this as Peter’s betrayal or how they all fell apart in the end.

Wow this got long. I love this song in the context of wolfstar/marauders. So many lines fit in this context, and these are only some of them.

Always second guessing whether your ambition or curiosity is your main driving force, not yet coming to terms that they really go hand in hand and are morphed into a hybrid of the two to fit your unique identity and that you can still be in one house over the other.

Slytherin: too competitive for their own good even in recreational hobbies or games

Why Did The Houses Break The Law?

Hufflepuff: Time will not be wasted on injustice.

Ravenclaw: Curiosity yields to no one.

Gryffindor: Adventure is the only path worth taking.

Slytherin: Determination will not be stopped.

The Houses As Stranger Things Characters

Hufflepuff: Mike Wheeler - "Friends don't lie." Took El in and cared for her when no one else would, continued to believe Will was alive with even the smallest and craziest shreds of hope, actually jumped off a cliff for his friend

Ravenclaw: Dustin Henderson - immensely curious, very creative, level-headed, always the voice of reason, kept a dangerous pet just to learn more about it

Gryffindor: Eleven - always tough, never afraid to do something people tell her not to for a good cause, protective of her friends, searching for adventure to find herself

Slytherin: Lucas Sinclair - won't believe anything without proof, loyal to those he loves, protective of these people, so he is very skeptical, will finish a task once it has been started, thinks with great logic, stubborn with what he believes in

This was between my Slytherin self and my very Hufflepuff mother. Though, this is quite a Ravenclaw thing for me to say, but I am a bit of that too.

The Houses As Planning

Hufflepuff: The Why - the true spirit of the team, they know how to keep everyone going when it gets tough and to be a reminder of what they are trying to accomplish.

Ravenclaw: The How - as a meticulous eye for detail, they know exactly what steps need to be taken in order to achieve the goal.

Gryffindor: The What - with insight into a good cause, they see what needs to be done in a given situation.

Slytherin: The When - a true strategist, they know that one has to carry out the right plan but also that timing is everything.
