Sorry about not updating this blog! I've been thinking of combining this blog with my personal blog, since I am no longer a history minor.
But I thought I should let you guys know that I DID get the job at the history museum. Unfortunately, I had to turn it down because it was a temporary position and I was not guaranteed enough work to pay sufficiently for gas (it's a 40 minute commute). I'm looking into academic publishing now!!

This violin would have been made for the Royal Household either late in the reign of Charles II (r. 1660-1685) or during the reign of James II (r. 1685-1688). The ornate carving on the back would have been highly fashionable at about this time, and it includes the Royal Stuart coat of arms before the royal arms were modified at the time of the accession of William III and Queen Mary in 1688. (x)

This pencil drawing was made by Gideon Fairman of Alexander Hamilton. He made it from memory after Hamilton’s death, and sent to to to one of Hamilton’s good friends, Richard Harison.
It’s incredibly beautiful, considering it was done from memory.
