Familiar with the saying 'it's all smoke and mirrors'? There is real substance to this comment (well maybe leave the smoke out). Strategically placed decorative mirrors can make a small space feel larger. Placing mirrors directly opposite windows will add an instant brightness in any space that with limited lighting.
When it comes to designing living spaces for clients with children, there are a few extra considerations. For example: avoid obvious potential hazards such as glass-topped tables, and furniture with sharp corners. Sofas with removable covers will be invaluable when it comes to inevitable spills and smudges. Added storage will also come in handy when it comes time to tidy up! In general, a kid-friendly space should prioritise practicality, versatility and comfort.
If you have a wardrobe as well-curated as your home, why not put it on display? Using a clothes rack is a great storage option in small rooms, as it leaves more open space, and can be more practical for those who like easy access to their garments. Prepare to go minimal with your clothes though, as most racks are around 100 to 130cm in width.
While we might think of corporate or hospitality spaces as being bland, the tide is changing. With corporate culture becoming more casual, and businesses attempting to attract trendy millennials, interiors that look more like your local hipster coffee spot are becoming more common. Don't be afraid to add in quirky touches to make it unique!

Advise clients to focus on choosing colours they simply love, and suit the space, as these will stand the test of time. Nobody wants to be repainting every year or two!

A simple way to ensure that your Christmas decor matches with your existing interior is to choose a colour that is prominent in you home and incorporate it into your Christmas colour scheme. For example, the yellow gold of this armchair is reflected in the decorations on the tree, easily creating visual harmony.
Wood panelling is an easy update for an all-white kitchen. As current trends are moving towards the hand-crafted and organic, the natural texture of the wood helps to make the environment feel less sterile. Make it a sustainable option by sourcing recycled wood (which can also add to the look).

Digital sample boards are becoming more common, as a convenient option for interior designers to whip up in a pinch. However, to really bring the "mood" to your board, a physical version has the benefit of providing the tactile experience of each sample. You can also add in extra touches to enhance the "vibe" and make reference to your inspiration - this example uses fresh chillies to complement the glossy red tiles of a kitchen/dining area.
A circular rug is always a great way to help make a statement, a little bit like a permanent spotlight. Use the rug to draw the eye to a feature piece, placed in the centre. Just make sure that the rug colour has enough contrast with the floor to truly demand attention!
Kids rooms can be some of the most fun projects to receive as an interior designer. They allow you to use a bit more creativity in attempting to spark their curiosity and imagination. Do you know the secretive history of this common decorative feature? The rose has symbolised secrecy since Roman times, and hanging a rose over a meeting table became a sign of confidentiality and free speech in the Middle Ages. This later led to rose designs being physically carved into the ceilings, and over time the phrase came to refer to this ornate moulding (whether or not a rose actually features in the design!) These days ceiling roses are great for adding a striking focal point, especially for spaces with lovely high ceilings.
Sometimes all it takes is a creative mind to turn trash into treasure!
