Rachel can’t help making a slight face at that; Chad had certainly made noise last year while she was gone, but not the kind that Rachel had been fond of. But she can wait to touch on that topic until Sunny’s more settled back in. And if Rachel’s taken aback by Sunny’s comment about Ginny, she’s only barely had time to show it before Sun’s already correcting herself, and Rachel can let her expression relax in relief. “I mean, yeah, it was a little mean. I’m just glad you’re not as bad as everyone was last year, though. Like I said, it brought out the worst in everyone. Chad and Audrey wouldn’t even give them a chance at first. Ginny just… needs to get settled, she’s not gonna kidnap anyone.”
Once she’s finished wincing at Sun’s shout her hands tighten on the taller girl’s shoulders in playful reassurance before she chuckles a little. “Of course. I may be tiny, but my arms are sturdy enough, I’ve got you. Anyways—Ben totally did that. Right in front of everyone, after the big tourney win against Sherwood Falcons, he just—he got up to make some announcement, and I, like, thought it was gonna be some speech about how the VKs selflessly helped us win against our rivals for the first time in years so we should give them a chance, but then he just—had everyone spell out Mal’s name! Even Audrey did it, because no one knew! It was kind of awful, but it was so fucking wild we didn’t know how to react, so we kind of just… ate it up and had fun with it.”
“But, I mean, Audrey found out after coronation that Mal had love spelled Ben at the time, I guess because she had, like, a crush and didn’t know how to deal? So it wasn’t really our Benjamin. But still. Holy shit, that was a r i d e.”

sunny’s happy to shift her attention from this dilemma to normal adolescent gossip. ( goodness, she practically LIVED for it ! ) it takes a moment to process it all; everything’s just s o out of character for their now-king. “ WILD. ” she probably shouldn’t say anything more, seeing as Audrey was her friend, too. white teeth bite down on her lip as she chokes back a laugh at the thought of Ben doing something so... dastardly ! “ i’m amazed Auds didn’t kill him. or Mal. maybe both. and he just--- didn’t question the whole ‘love spell’ thing ? i want to say that doesn’t make sense, but honestly, that boy is so soft i’m not that surprised. ”
