I was invited to a Youth function since I've been an advocate for Mental Health Awareness and I had to speak in front of at least 80 young students and 15 staff.

I hope you all have the time to read my story. I have not mentioned this experience to anyone but now. ⬇️

I still remember that day in high school when I received hurtful comments from my former teacher. He told me that I had a "gay walk" and a "flamboyant quality" and that could limit my options in life. It was devastating to hear those words, especially coming from someone who was supposed to support me and help me grow.

I was shocked and felt like I had just been punched in the gut. Those words echoed in my head for weeks, months, years and a lifetime. I started to question everything about myself. Was there something wrong with me? Was I not living up to other people's expectations? It was a lot to handle, especially at such a young age.

But as time went on, I began to realize that those comments said more about my former teacher's biases and prejudices than they did about me. I learned to embrace my individuality and celebrate the traits that make me who I am. I refused to let anyone's narrow-mindedness hold me back or define me.

Looking back, I am grateful for that experience, as painful as it was. It taught me to be strong, resilient, and true to myself, no matter what anyone else thinks. And I hope that someday my former teacher will come to realize that her words were hurtful and that everyone deserves respect and acceptance, no matter their sexual orientation or gender expression.
