The Slumbering Forest

A dark forest, cloaked in ancient moss, slumbers upon the threshold between the waking world and the realm of dreams...

There, beyond the translucent veil of spring foliage, trees grow through ancient stones, while flowers slowly open their eyelids to the timid light.

And only a solitary wanderer, barefoot upon a path strewn with fallen pine needles, pausing at the very edge between light and shadow, is able to witness it: the trees roaming the forest, unsteadily stepping from root to root like forgotten pilgrims who have long since lost their own trails. They gently incline their crowns toward one another and whisper to the wind in the creaking of their branches, reciting weary verses so ancient that not even the birds remember them as they carry them away upon their wings.

Upon the weathered boulders, damp moss lies asleep, preserving the traces of those who once entered this forest and never again learned to tell awakening from dreaming.
