He had agreed with her and nodded his head. “It is! But he has given up on a lot because of me already and he’s still young. “ Dakota had tried to explain to her. He had always felt guilty about the sacrifices his dad had to make for him. “I don’t see how it would help him at his work. “ He had admitted, sighing. “I’m not very good at convincing him.” 

“Yeah, I have heard that is a big part of parenting in general. Parents want what is best for their kids.” Kathryn replied knowing her parents had given up a lot for her and her sister’s over the years.  “Well, if you can’t convince him it’s good for his job convince him that it is good for you.”

She had nodded at her, sighing. “Or seen something. They should put cameras up everywhere. It’s expensive but they have to get from one place to the next somehow and if there would be cameras it would be seen on the tapes.” Emma had suggested. “I would never choose a man over my family but that’s just me.” 

“Yeah, that is an option and I am sure that they have looked into it, or they will.” Kathryn replied figuring it was a pretty solid idea. “It’s not about picking one over the other. My family is still part of my life.  I can’t expect you to understand because you don’t know my history.”

“Noone likes living where people go missing but my family is here and I can’t just leave them behind. “ Emma had tried to explain because her family had always been the most important to her. “Me too! I hope they find out what happened soon. People can’t just disappear like that without any leads.” Shrugging at her, she had been surprised. “You came a long way. Don’t you miss them? 

“No, I get it. You don’t need to explain it to me.” Kathryn replied knowing that the hardest part of living in America was being so far away from her family. “Yeah, that is true. Someone must know something. It’s just a matter of the police figuring out who.” She added knowing that she was going to continue to worry about her friends even after she was gone. “Yeah, being away from them is always hard. But the love of my life was here and missing him was harder.”

Dakota had never been someone to go on a lot of dates in general. He had one girlfriend and loved her a lot but after she had left him for someone with more money, he had given up on dating and focused on his career instead. “Me neither. I think it’s a very strange thing.” Dakota had admitted. “Sounds like my dad. How do you get a workaholic to go on a date? “ 

“Honestly, getting a workaholic to do anything is hard.” Kathryn replied with a small shrug. “The key is to try to make it seem more exciting than just doing work for hours on end. But if you can somehow convince them that going will help them for work than you are golden. It’s all about claiming that it is a form of networking.”

Emma had never been the most social girl and usually had tried to avoid big events. “So you really like it here?” She had asked curiously as the towns image had not been the best anymore since the kids went missing. The only reason she had been staying was her family. “I’m just here to be with my family, otherwise I’d be studying in LA or Vegas or NYC. “

“I mean I like some of the people here. But I don’t like living somewhere that people go missing all of the time. It’s worrisome and I hate having to worry about everyone I care about.” Kathryn replied, knowing she’d be fine with never returning at this point. She wanted something normal. “That is fair. My family is back in London.”

“Oh, that’s interesting. You’re a photographer, I guess? It might be fun to have an excuse to have a bunch of people dressed to the nine’s like this to play model for you.” he said, imagining that that kind of chance didn’t come along all that often.

“Yeah, that would be correct.” Kathryn replied with a small nod. “That is also very true. People seem to like getting their photos taken even more when they are fancy and looking their best.”

“Thank god. I hope they pass fast because I really don’t feel comfortable here. “ He had told her, shrugging. “My dad would and I don’t want to miss the opportunity to talk him into bidding for a date. Not that he needs an auction to get one but he’s just always so busy with work stuff he forgets he still has a private life.” Dakota had tried to set up a blind date for his dad before and the auction had seemed like an easier option to him. 

“That is fair. This sort of thing isn’t for everyone. I’ve never even been a date auction before.” Kathryn replied, not even knowing they were a real thing.  “That is fair. The older people get the more they sort of forget about that sort of stuff. Work tends to take over.” Kathryn replied, shrugging at the younger boy. She was probably in the minority for not being a workaholic.

Emma had nodded at her, it had made sense. “I see. That’s at least a good reason if you get paid for it.” She had smiled at her and asked curiously. “ It is. Sometimes I wish I could just leave and if it wasn’t for my family I probably would.” 

“Yeah, that is what I thought too.” Kathryn replied feeling she wouldn’t have come otherwise. It was far from her idea of fun, especially since she was flying solo. “See, nothing is keeping me here. I was supposed to go to London to visit, but now it looks like I am just staying there.”

“It’s been years since I’ve been to something like this.” Casey commented as he looked around the room, “Under normal circumstances I probably wouldn’t have come, but thought it was an important cause. I’m just glad that my parents were able to take Gracie for the weekend.” he added.

“Yeah this isn’t really my sort of thing either.” Kathryn admitted knowing it actually stressed her out of it. “But I got asked if I could take photos so I figured that I should probably accept.” She added, not that it really mattered. As it turned out she wouldn’t be in Ashton much longer.

“How long until the gala is over? I don’t really mind the event but this suit is uncomfortable. And besides I have a score to reach before the day refresh.” Dakota had been trying to reach the next level for a couple of days now and he would have preferred to be at home on the couch in his sweaters, scoring in his game. But this had been the first social event since he had moved here and he had figured it had been only fair to at least show up. 

“There is just a couple more hours now.” Kathryn replied with a small shrug. She knew that the night was going by pretty slow for her as well as this point. She just hoped that it would be an uneventful night because that was honestly what Ashton needed. “But honestly most people probably wouldn’t notice if you just left early. There are a lot of people here.” Kathryn was glad this was her last Ashton event for the near future.

Emma shook her head as she had noticed someone had been talking to her. “No, not really. What about you? Do you really enjoy this event?” She had asked out of curiosity. “I haven’t decided yet. Are you participating? “ Emma had not been sure whether or not she should go up. 

“No, I am just here because the town is paying me to take pictures.” Kathryn replied, gesturing to the camera in her hand. She just needed a little bit of extra money to help pay for her prolonged trip.  “Oh definitely not. The entire situation is nerve wreaking.”

“I can barely breath in this dress and I didn’t even have dinner yet.” Emma had whispered to herself and hadn’t noticed someone had been standing behind her. Once she had, she turned around and smiled awkwardly. “Sorry, I haven’t noticed you there. I just feel a bit out of place here to be honest.” 

“So this isn’t really your thing I take it?” Kathryn asked raising an eyebrow. She herself was only there because she was being paid to take pictures, but even she was enjoying herself a little bit. Granted, people were not drunk and rowdy. “Are you taking place in the auction?”

💑 What are my muse’s requirements for a potential partner?

Someone who can handle her even on the dates her mental illness is at it’s worse.

💲Would my muse ever date/marry/sleep with someone because they were rich? 

Kathryn comes from a pretty well off family, so she had money of her own. Even if she didn’t she’d never do something like that. 

🎆 Is my muse into monogamy?

Very much so.

Charles nodded his head at her. “I will.” He confirmed, not that he thought it would be necessary as he felt like things had been going pretty smooth so far. The organization they were using had been very helpful as well. “Oh yeah, I can’t wait for the amounts of hours we are going to spend packing everything down.” He laughed. 

“But it will all be worth it when we are in our beautiful house surrounded by things that are ours.” Kathryn added, excited to start their life together. She couldn’t wait to officially be his wife. “It won’t be that bad anyway. Because neither of us owns that much.”

“Yeah, and don’t worry, I will take care of the paper work and such.” He reassured her. “I will probably just need your signature on a few pages, but other than that, we are good.” He smiled. “I just want this to be as pleasant for us both as possible.” He added. The last thing he wanted was any of the things they were going through at the moment to be stressful. 

“Okay, that works. Just let me know if there is anything that I need to do and I will do it.” Kathryn replied, glad Charles was handling most of the complicated stuff. “Yeah, I get that entirely. And I am glad that you are getting everything so organized. I’d be a mess trying to figure things out honestly.” She added feeling that Charles was doing an amazing job. “Thankfully most of the hard stuff is over now. Mostly we just have the time consuming stuff left.”
