The March 4 Our Lives movement was created to show that we as a society are tired of all the mass shootings and innocent people being shot at for no reason. We have had enough of it and we are demanding a change now before another shooting occurs. Children should not be living in a world like this where you canât go anywhere without worrying about what might happen. We will do anything to make our voices heard and will not allow anyone to silence us from fighting for our lives.
The Marvel movie Black Panther was recently released in February 2018 in honor of Black History Month. African Americans were excited for this movie to come out because they finally got a Marvel movie that was dedicated to their culture. Black Panther portrays that if we as African Americans stick together, we can fight together to make a change. This movie was very inspiring because it shows that black people are in fact powerful and have a purpose.
I watched in disgust as my bestfriend was murdered right in front of me by a man whose job is to protect the lives of innocents. Itâs ironic how the color of his skin subjected him to such treatment. Itâs ironic how African Americans are being killed and their deaths remain ignored. We must band together brothers and sisters to fight the ignorance that lies within this world!
Tupac Shakur was the son of Black Panther Party members Billy Garland and Afeni Shakur. Tupac was an actor and a rap legend. Â His music was replete with references to police brutality, equality, Â ghettos, street violence, sex, gangs and other social problems he faced while growing up.
When Rosa Parks, a civil rights activist, refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Alabama she sparked the civil rights movement in the United States. Leaders within the African American community organized a bus boycott when she was convicted of violating segregation laws, which led the Supreme Court to rule bus segregation unconstitutional.
Malcolm X, a human rights activist expressed his beliefs in the quote: âI am not a racist. I am against every form of racism and segregation, every form of discrimination. I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their color.â
Martin Luther King Jr. an American civil rights activist demonstrated the want of peace, and equality amongst ALL in his âI Have a Dreamâ speech. âI have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.â
The Black Panther Party was founded in 1966 in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. Its original goal was to protect African American neighborhoods from police brutality, however the group developed into a Marxist Revolutionary group.
The Ku Klux Klan was first formed by Confederate soldiers who opposed the outcome of the Civil War. Its aim was to frighten former slaves by forcing them to remain inferior. Their tactics included lynching, burning crossings, and bombing African Americans while wearing long hooded white cloaks.Â
Emmet Till became a victim of segregational violence on August 24, 1955. He was brutally beaten up for allegedly touching a white womenâs hand while buying supplies in a store by her husband and a group of white men.Â
