Haymitch was a poor boy, but he had a gift to give, he could make you see the world could be, in spite of the way that it is. And Lenore Dove was a young girl, but she’d seen how the world was. When she fell, she fell in spite of herself, in love with Haymitch. —————- Hadestown except it’s Haymitch and Lenore Dove. Some lines will be direct from the show. I use a mix of old lyrics and current lyrics.
the parallels between hadestown and sotr make my heart ache.
haymitch wasn't reaped originally but yet still ended up being thrown into the games, becoming an unintentional symbol to the younger folk around him and maybe even a martyr of sorts.
orpheus wasn't sought after by hades originally but yet still ended up in the underworld, becoming an unintentional symbol to the workers trapped there and nearly a martyr.
haymitch has his lenore dove, the girl he'd do anything for. but, at the very end, he loses her after having endured the games. it's almost like the gumdrops are her chips to the underworld.
orpheus has his eurydice, the girl he'd leave behind everything for. but, at the very end, he loses her after having endured the long walk to and from the underworld. her chips are the poisonous gumdrops.
haymitch's win is a cautionary tale for those who dare to rebel but it's also one riddled with love. and we, as readers, having the foresight of the original hunger games trilogy, still read sotr knowing exactly how it would end.
orpheus' journey is a painful story told again and again because, while sad, it, too, is full of love. and we, as watchers, still watch it knowing that he will always turn around because that's the way the greek myth is written.
you KNOW how both stories are going to end.
you KNOW they're going to end in tragedy and pain and that the boy is going to lose all that he's ever known and loved.
you KNOW that he's going to try to undo the status quo and fail.
and, even so, the story gets told again and again, in hopes that it'll turn out different one time around.
rip maysilee donner you would have loved johanna mason
Katniss and Peeta's feast in the cave comes with silverware and plates. I always found this odd- it seemed as if it would have inflated the cost frivolously. I figured it had something to do with standards in the captiol, especially with how Effie remarks about table manners on the train.
no. it was haymitch both honoring Maysilee and continuing her poster.
a thing that i particularly love about the hunger games prequels is how it shows that people have been fighting against the games since their inception
when i was younger and read the original trilogy for the first time i was so bothered how it was 74 years of games, i remember thinking how could it have gone on so long without anyone doing anything
these prequels highlight that people have been fighting from the get-go: lucy gray's defiance, reaper ripping down panem's flags to cover the fallen tributes, haymitch's games and how many others shared his ideologies - the capitol just drowns them out, they rewrite their stories so their efforts are forgotten
liberation takes time and it's built upon the actions of those in the past
Hadestown is just the perfect musical companion to The Hunger Games

Hunger Games Hadestown AU with Katniss and Peeta as Orpheus and Eurydice and Coriolanus and Lucy Gray as Hades and Persephone
Katniss can work as both Orpheus and Eurydice, but she especially fits Eurydice’s tough girl who sees the world for what it is but completely melts around the kindhearted if slightly naive boy who sees it for what it could be. And Lucy Gray really fits Persephone’s showwoman role who despite once deep love for her husband now is disgusted by what he has become. And Coriolanus is the Hades who seems to crave power above all else but deep down just wants his wife to love him again
All I’ve ever known is how to hold my own But now I wanna hold you, too
as a society we need to talk more about the parallels between ‘the hunger games’ franchise and ‘hadestown’
orpheus is covey in thg universe and in sotr specifically i find that lenore dove is more orpheus than she is eurydice because while she is more cynical than haymitch, she is the one who sings about injustice and challenges it when her lover is taken from her sent to what is almostly certainly his death the same way orpheus sings "if its true" in hadestown and i just see her as much more of an orpheus
i know ive made jokes about SOTR in the past but the Hadestown hades and persephone as snowbaird and orpheus and eurydice as haydove parallels go HARD

Inspired in part by beloved Gravity, by @katnissmellarkkk and by Roi, by Videoclub! The song doesn't have the everlark vibes per se but the lyrics are so cute and very snapshot like. The fic is perfect, very natural paced and full of longing, 100% recommend!!! Please do zoom in for hi-res, gave my life and tears for this one 💖
