Rumor Mill:
Terry Rooney hinted he liked senior walk on Bret Gordon to start this season, but not in the infield where we saw him for much of last year. Gordon caught fire at the end of the season, and made 26 starts in 2013, mostly at second base. He hit .316 in 98 at-bats last year, and also drove in a dozen runs. Gordon is the only player remaining from the 2013 roster who hit above .300. In THIS video, Rooney says there’s still competition at second base and short stop. It’ll be interesting to see which of the newcomers step up to fill one or both of those positions. If Gordon lands the LF spot, assuming Jo Jo Woods is a lock to remain in centerfield, that leaves one vacancy in the outfield. We’ll speculate on the RF starter in a future post.

Welcome to TheLeadoffUCF
Thank you for reading TheLeadoffUCF. We'll be dedicated to giving you the best coverage of the 2014 UCF baseball team. We’ll post anything from daily practice updates, to video of post-game interviews. With three weeks until the start of the season, we’ll spend that time introducing you to some of the new players, as well as breakdown positional battles up and down the lineup. There are 24 new players on the roster. Only three (maybe four) positions have guaranteed starters. The rest are up for grabs.
These final three weeks will be interesting as we all get to know the 2014 baseball team. Look for posts all day long today, and during the season. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @TheLeadoffUCF, as we’ll be posting live updates from practice and games throughout the season from there.
