Acolyte Thoughts.
So I am calling this right now. Spoiler under the cut for those who don't want to see.
I made you guys a present.
Rest in peace my friend.
Question for the Bellarke fandom. Bellamy would totally dress as a 300 Spartan at Comic Convention but he would still bitch about how historically inaccurate it was wouldn’t he? I am at a Convention right now and I had a plot bunny with this. I just can’t figure out what Clarke might dress as at a Con.
Librarians must resist trumpism
Radical librarian Jason Griffey (previously) wants librarians to continue their 21st century leadership in the resistance to surveillance and persecution – a proud record that includes the most effective stands against GW Bush’s Patriot Act – by pledging to make libraries safe havens from trumpism and its evils: electronic surveillance; racial and gender-based discrimination; and the assertion that ideology trumps empirical reality.
Neutrality favors the powerful, and further marginalizes the marginalized. In the face of the current political climate, with the use of opinions as bludgeons and disinformation as the weapon of choice for manipulation and intellectual coercion, it is up to those who value fact and believe in the care of those in need to stand up and positively affirm that to do otherwise is evil.
For libraries and librarians, that means:
1. Making the physical space of the library safe for those that need it by publicly stating your stance on the targeting of marginalized communities and then following up with actions and policies that back up those statements
2. Protecting your patrons from targeting and oppression, even in the face of possible governmental pressures, by resisting calls for information about your patrons at every level
3. Making your digital spaces safe for you patrons by limiting the data you collect, eliminating the data that you store, encrypting your communications at all levels and importantly insisting that your vendors do the same
4. Running programs that actively provide support for your at-risk patrons, whatever that looks like in your community
5. By being the voice of reason and compassion when dealing with your city or county government, and by modeling the same by advocating for those at risk
These things are vital and necessary. Especially now.

ok but that sign is SO COOL. It is illegal - fucking fuck - for a library to say it has been approached by the FBI. The workaround is that a library can say they have not been approached until, ya know, that’s a lie and they take down the sign. That is also actually why a lot of libraries no longer keep records of what a person checks out. Like they take broad stats but a lot of computer programs don’t even have the capacity to log what a person has checked out. You can’t disclose what you don’t have. tldr, librarians can be awesome when we stop doing this neutrality lie.
Why in the hell is that illegal? That’s sketch af guys. Someone in the law making business is shade. Shaaaaaade.
the FBI used to maintain watch lists of books people took out, and librarians didn’t like it, so they told their patrons to work from a book in the library so they didn’t go on the watch list, or took the books out themselves, so the FBI got really pissed at them and got the lawmakers to make it illegal to warn them
but librarians are smart wily fuckers - the FBI didn’t stand a chance
The signs were originally made by librarian and all around good egg Jessamyn “not the author” West, who writes about it at librarian.net.
Librarians are quiet front-line fighters when it comes to authoritarianism. When I worked as a librarian, I had to take an oath to protect and to serve the public’s access to knowledge and right to privacy.
These guys are serious.
Librarians have always been quiet, steadfast heroes.
As an Academic Librarian I wanted to add that College and University Libraries also fight to make sure that your information is protected. A lot of times people think that Public Libraries are the only ones fighting. We Academics are there too. We do have a slight advantage in our fight because of all of the Academic research that goes through us. We don’t keep track of who checks out what. Just how many times an item is checked out so that we know if an item is popular we can buy extra copies for our Patrons wither it be in physical or digital form. So all you College students know that the Librarians in your College or University Library have your back too.
Does your state say Soda, Pop, Coke, or a combination?
Source: Speaking American by Josh Katz, Google
I have lived in Georgia for 24 years, and I don’t recall a single instance where people generalized all carbonated beverages as “coke”. I don’t know who started this rumor, but I’ve heard about this for a while. All native Georgians I know call it soda. We revere Coke as too sacred to label all sodas as such. I will no longer stand idly by as others besmirch our name with these atrocious claims.
I don’t know what part of Georgia you live in but I am a Native Georgian who has grown up in Metro Atlanta and I have always called it Coke. It doesn’t matter if it’s Cheerwine, Dr, Pepper or some store brand soda, it’s Coke.

Verizon is leaving the engine of internet culture to sputter and die, and its communities to scramble for a new home.
The Vox article that I was interviewed for is up and running, and it contains some serious fuckign information about this whole fiasco.
Information that tumblr just straight up refused to provide to its userbase at all.
Unsurprisingly to those of us watching this website deteriorate over the last year, this full content purge and ban has been in progress for a solid 6 months. The date got moved up because of the child porn thing, but it was always coming for us.
Equally unsurprising: Tumblr’s management and ownership are absolutely destroying the actual staff working on it. The company has been hemoragghing senior staff without so much as a token attempt to keep them in place. So the drops in site quality are real, and wil probably only be getting worse.
Truly astonishing is the fact that apparently this crap was supposed to “double” the userbase by the end of next year. Boy, howdy, that’s not gonna work out well for them.

how can ppl say cats dont have feelings like.
when my cat got deadly sick she refused to eat a single thing and it had been days but when i started crying she ate just a little bit, and upon seeing how happy it made me, kept doing it whenever she could.
now whenever im sad or crying she finds wherever i am with a mouthful of food and eats the pieces one by one, every time looking up at me making sure i was watching her eat it all because she knew it made me happy. and it DOES make me happy
i love cats!!!
