She left the cloak of levitation in the hotel. From what she had been told. This thing liked to hang out in sewers. And a magical cloak was very hard to get dry cleaned.

Stephanie made her way out onto the street and made sure the coast was clear. Before using a spell to open a manhole.

“Ugh.” She huffed.

Demons were one thing. Sewage was another.

She climbed down the hole and closed it over top of her.

Summoning a light to fill the tunnel. And then closing her eyes to sense the extra dimensional energy.

“What’s up chuckles?”

She refused to do the stereotypical ‘hello’ that everyone did in horror movies.

“I hear you’ve been a naughty boy. And I’m here to teach you a lesson.” She made her way down the tunnel.

“You have three options here. I’ll let you pick. You know. As soon as you slink out of the shadows.” She says impatiently.

They felt the change in energy and awoke early from their nap. Someone was messing around with things they shouldn't and it made them think back to the turtle. The energies were so similar that they gagged and made a face.

Creeping from their little hidey hole they began to stalk the sewers for this little pest needing to stamp it out before things got too complex. Hearing the echoes of the voice they followed.

Deadlights followed in their wake as they turned a corner and stumbled upon the intruder.

Small. It was the first thing they picked up on.

"Well hello there little one~" Saccharine smile and voice to match spilled from them. "Come to play?"

"Lonely is only for those with the capacity for companionship." They sighed as if this had been an argument they'd had in the past at great lengths. "This form is one I use in the time between the hunts. When they think I'm sleeping."

Working their jaw for a moment they wanted to spit at the idea they were handing well hunted food over. The need for bigger prey teased them and kept their fangs in check. "Preferred form? I can become anything."

She squints at it.

“Right… hang on a moment dear.”

She shuffles the kids inside and gestures at them.

“Hello officer. Did your job for you. I’m sure you’re able to take it from here yes?”

The officer sniffs. “They were in the sewers?”

“Okay. Feck off with the attitude. Just… get them home safe to their parents alright? I dealt with the kidnapper already. You’re welcome.” She starts to leave. Before turning back.

“They may be a bit dazed for a bit. But that will wear off. Tell their parents to actually watch their fecking children alright? And to get their tubes tied.” She stalks out of the office. Anger bubbling over her features.

“Some people shouldn’t have children.” She mutters. “I’m this way.” She starts to lead the way back to her hotel room. Waving her hands to clean her clothing. And remove the smell.

“Oh yes. I assumed so. My late husband was a shape shifter. Well my first late husband anyways. Long story.” She reaches into her pocket and pulls out some shades.

“Not sure these suit you. But they should help with the brightness a bit. I’m Stephanie. The name is mine. You can’t have it. Same goes for my face. Don’t think this planet could handle that much sexy.” She teases a bit.

Watching her march the kids into the station they lingered back not liking the stink of the adults within. Leaning against a wall they lit up an old cigarette that was badly crushed from age and just puffed away.

When she returned the dropped what was left of the cig and crushed it under their foot. Pushing away from the wall they began to follow after her. "So you've got a habit of marrying shifters? Must have quite the type."

Taking the shades they slip them on and sighed in relief as the stinging suns rays no longer burned. Sniffing a bit they rubbed at their nose before changing their own clothes into something clean and more modern.

"Don't worry we don't think, I don't think it would suit us." Grimacing a bit they sighed. "We must become I to hide amongst the prey." Muttering it a bit their voice changed a bit to a more human cadance. "So where we going to end up?"

“So does everyone in my house.” She retorts. “You may actually fit in.”

She clenched her jaw as the metal in her hand squished together.

And their joined hands light on fire. The fire is painless but the deal is struck.

“No going back on your word now. Are any of the children still alive?” She asks.

"Oh so there's others?" They didn't like sharing spaces and disliked the thought of a group domicile. But if there was more fear, more flesh, more fun than who were they not to reach for it?

When their hands engulfed in flame they knew old magic was involved. How else could they strike a deal that could bind one such as themselves?

"Alive is a general term. They all float at the moment. I have yet to feed." Leading her away they returned to their nest. Dozen of children were suspended in the air with milky eyes and slack expressions.

"If I must release them I guess I have no choice. But who will heal their mortal little souls?"

“I won’t be long…” Stephanie replies. Before portaling away.

After a while some of the children return to normal- frightened child state. They flatten against one of the walls crying.

The rest soon follow.

Stephanie returns. And sighs.

She gets down on her knees in the muck. Less concerned with the fecal matter. And more concerned about the frightened children.

“Hello.” She says in a soft. Musical. Almost ethereal voice. Their eyes glaze over again.

“I do hope you all know your addresses.” She mutters.

She turns to the creature.

“Are they too old to be left at a fire station?” She muses.

“Whatever. They’re all accounted for. And I may be a doctor. But I’m not a therapist. So they’re their parents problem now… come along children…” she pats her leg like one would call a dog.

It’s clear she doesn’t usually interact with younger kids.

“Okay creature. You lead the way out. I want you where I can see you.”

They watched her work and frowned at the loss of they stock. While in human form the kids didn't recognize them so there was less screaming and panic.

Sneering a bit they decided to play along and make a show of returning them all to safety. Maybe they'll get bonus points for it?

"Shortcut is this way. Leads out to the creek, less sewage." They taunted her a bit about the smell before leading them all away.

Before too long the pipe opened up to the Barrens, the forests just outside of town, and they squinted in the light.

"All free to go home. If a home still remains."

“Okay smartass…” she leads the way into town.

“I’ll drop them off at the police station…Do the lights usually bother you?” She asks as they walk into town.

They follow and keep an eye on the children so none get left behind. It wouldn't do to lose one and be punished for it.

"Where we come from there isn't light like this. We make our own light." They huffed a bit as if they'd just had to drop some common knowledge on her.

“Well I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting any of your species before you.” Stephanie replies. As she leads the herd of children through the empty streets.

“By the way. What should I call you?”

“You heard me right? Three options. One. I kick your ass and remove you from this planet. Two. I cast a spell that effectively starves you. And three. I give you a list.” She crosses her arms over her chest.

“I’m not in the mood to play right now. So you’d best start talking.”

"Bossy, bossy, bossy." They chided and shook their head to make the bells along their collar jingle. Looking the woman over she smelled wrong and made their mouth taste of corroded pennies; quite unpleasant.

"I don't have too much time to play so if you would be ever so kind as to tell us the real reason you're here."

She walks over to it. Looking up. Making direct eye contact.

“You’re leaving town. Whether or not that’s in a body bag. Is up to you…” she opens her third eye.

“Do we have an understanding? Clown?” She cocks her head to the side.

“I don’t feck around with things that eat children. So you’re right. You don’t have much time to play.”

"Oh but the children are fine." They giggled a bit at that. "All they want to do is float and feed us with their delicious fear~. Do you want to see them for yourself?"

“Small game. No wonder you’re always still so hungry. You feel the hunger don’t you. Knowing away at your insides like mice in a wall? I feel it too. You see I eat demons. Smaller ones. Easier to catch. But once I had a larger one. And I was gloriously full for weeks. You could have that. You know. Leave the little ones alone. And I’ll help you catch some big game.” She puts the head on the axe under its chin.

“Unless of course you’re a coward. You’ve been living underground for so long. You’re probably too slow … too stupid to catch anything big.” She taunts.

Watching her with her little toy they knew it may hurt but wouldn't kill them. Very few knew how to drive them away for more than a few lifetimes. Letting her speak one thing caught their attention.

Better food. She was offering a way for them to get their fill without having to suck dry hoards of little children. Perhaps it could do more than just feed and sleep. Perhaps....

Leaning against the axe they grinned as a bit of drool spilled past their crimson lips. "If you offer something tastier than what we've had how could we be so cruel as to say no?"

“How would you like a job? More human than you could eat. You’d probably have to take on a different form. You do shift don’t you? Most entities with your vibrations do.”

She left the cloak of levitation in the hotel. From what she had been told. This thing liked to hang out in sewers. And a magical cloak was very hard to get dry cleaned.

Stephanie made her way out onto the street and made sure the coast was clear. Before using a spell to open a manhole.

“Ugh.” She huffed.

Demons were one thing. Sewage was another.

She climbed down the hole and closed it over top of her.

Summoning a light to fill the tunnel. And then closing her eyes to sense the extra dimensional energy.

“What’s up chuckles?”

She refused to do the stereotypical ‘hello’ that everyone did in horror movies.

“I hear you’ve been a naughty boy. And I’m here to teach you a lesson.” She made her way down the tunnel.

Creeping from their little hidey hole they began to stalk the sewers for this little pest needing to stamp it out before things got too complex. Hearing the echoes of the voice they followed.

Deadlights followed in their wake as they turned a corner and stumbled upon the intruder.

"Well hello there little one~" Saccharine smile and voice to match spilled from them. "Come to play?"
