Most people will be against this, but hear me out because it’s only an idea. Instead of moving to Twitter or hanging out in the ruins of Tumblr, why doesn’t someone just create a website that combines some of the better aspects of Tumblr and Twitter, but also add features that differ it from other platforms? I’m not saying copy Tumblr, but even before Facebook there was Myspace and before that there was Friendster. Tumblr has remained the tie between the old and new era of the internet. So maybe give this suggested website a “less public” and maybe an “old internet” vibe to it that has kept everyone from leaving. Seriously though, I would love to see something new pop up that isn’t so… public, restrained. The next site should have better communication between the users and staff. The new site should have a better and effective system to keep pedophiles, under age porn, viruses, neo-nazis, and bots/spam off the site while allowing freedom and creativity of their users. The “log off” protest is a great idea, but I don’t believe Tumblr will care and from here, it’ll only get worse. I think it might be time for something creatively new. I’m still participating in the protest and encourage everyone else to do so as well, but I’m so ready for something else and Twitter just isn’t quite it… at least for me.
