"-- Seriously Kate. You need to pack up your folders, stuff them in that little leather thing of yours and get the night off work. Like c o m e o n we hadn't had a girls night out in ages."
Fourth night in a row that she tried to get Beckett to hang out with her. She'd be damned if she wouldn't get her friend to come out with her tonight. Even if that meant tying up and drugging the said detective.
i-dont-look-i-hunt
The more she read the file in her hands the more confused she grew. It didn’t make any sense. Scientific sense but perhaps she needed to test out a few more possibilities — do a few more tests, search for other traces of drugs in the victim’s body. As long as she’d get an answer, she’d do it all over again.
“— I don’t know, girl, but this doesn’t make any sense.”
A sigh escaped from between the brunette’s lips. She peered up at the detective next to her and lightly moved her shoulders up and down as she picked up the cappuccino cup from the table and took a sip of it.
“— I could redo the analysis and check for other sort of drugs but I highly doubt I’d find something more than this.”
Kate sighed. Usually autopsy reports answered questions, but this one made her ask more. She leaned against the counter, her coffe cup in her hand. ”No, don’t do it again unless you want to.” She answered. ”Don’t wear yourself out. Castle probably has some wild theory, but eventually we will connect all the dots.”
This was more confusing than it was supposed to be. With her experience in the field she was supposed to find answers during autopsies -- to help the investigators -- not to confuse them even more.
"-- It seems that we have no choice. This person must have died of something."
The cause of death of the victim remained unclear. It was obvious that it was a murder due to the place where the body was found but otherwise there weren't any other leads on that.
"-- Castle? Come on, Kate. He'd probably tell us it was an evil spirit or something."
A small chuckle escaped the brunette's lips. While Castle's theories were dear to her, she could never find any sense in them, and sense was what was needed at the moment. With a sigh, she took another sip from her cappuccino.
"-- It's like the killer never existed. There are no traces of DNA or wounds or -- it's like the heart just stopped." Frustration was visible in the brunette's voice as she rolled her eyes at the papers she held. "Spooky."

“— Wait a minute. Who gave you access here?”
It wasn’t often when the morgue got visitors and when it did it was mostly from someone who gained an internship or someone from the New York Police Station — the homicide section. She recognized most of those, though. There weren’t many that frequented h e r zone of the morgue after all and this face wasn’t familiar. At all.
He didn’t visit the morgue often. He always tried to bring in his target alive. There were times that he wasn’t successful and they died but most of the time it was because they refused to be brought in peacefully. But this morning, he received a report that a man with the same description and identification as his target was found dead in an alley. So here he was, at the local morgue, where he wished the front desk would communicate with the employees inside. He needed to verify that his target was indeed dead before he could start on the paperwork and moved on to the next target.
"Special Agent Cooper, FBI." He showed her his badge then pointed at the body on the table with it. "Here for him."
Most of the visitors that crossed her path at the morgue were familiar. Unless they were relatives of the victims but she tried to avoid those as much as possible. Even then the relatives were accompanied by a familiar face so she knew who was handling the case. This time was different. Whoever the man that entered the autopsy bay wasn't familiar and she didn't waste any time in greeting him. The first thing that she needed to do was to find out who he was and what he was doing here. Maybe he was some relative of some other victim -- one that wasn't classed as a John Doe in her file. Or maybe not.
"-- FBI?" She raised a brow high enough that it almost touched her hairline. "I didn't receive any information that the Feds are involved in this." Her eyes rested on the badge for a few more seconds as a sigh escaped her lips. "For him? Him who? You must have gotten the wrong person because this guy here," She pointed with her chart to the body. "Is not going anywhere. This is NYPD business."
"-- This is such a pain."

“— No one’s been able to tell you no. But no one’s me that’s the thing." Lanie flashed him a grin, her own sarcasm showing through. ”I don’t know, Castle, but the parties you’re into —" The small nod of her head and the raise of her eyebrows was a hint that she knew that Richard Castle was no saint. Then again neither was she. ”Let’s just pretend that I’m in — which I’m not, we’re just pretending — but what’s in on it for me?" Her lips curled into a small grin as she watched the man in front of her.
Castle looked at her, “This isn’t one of those parties, it’s the release party for my first book.” he explained, “And if I don’t have a date I’m gonna look pretty dumb, plus for once and my life I don’t want it to be about my sex life.” He explained, and when she asked what was in it for him he shrugged, “I’ll owe you one?”
"-- Release of your first book?" Lanie couldn't believe that she hadn't known about that before, then again, she never asked. "Well, Writer Boy, you're sort of winning me on this." Despite her wanting to prove that she could deny him she found herself in an unusual situation now. She couldn't let him make a fool of himself by showing up at that party on his own, right? It wouldn't be right. "Here's the deal -- I'll agree to do this because I'm a kind person and your friend, but," Her lips formed a slight grin as she looked up at him. "You'll owe me big time, Castle. I'll hold you on to this." A small laugh elicited from between the brunette's lips. "So that means I need to bring my party dress out, huh?"

“— Adorable? Boy, you have a lot of self-esteem,” Lanie fought against the urge to grin, her lips pressing together into a tight line as she shook her head. ”— I can. I mean, come on, Writer Boy, you aren’t that irresistible.” Teasing Richard Castle was slowly becoming one of her favorite things to do.
Castle raised an eyebrow, “You sure about that Lanie?” he asked, “i mean you’ve never been able to tell me no; really no one has.” he said, ‘Besdies, it’s just a party.” he told her, “What’s the worst that could happen?” he teased, “And what’s wrong with having some self esteem?”
