RuneScape Kingdoms
Time Needed: 60+ minutes
Number of Players: 2-5
Replayability: 7/10
Complexity: 7/10
Click-clacks: 5/10, there are a lot and the minis are neat
Explore the world of Geilinor and go on four epic quests to save the realm from certain destruction. The base game comes with the Vampyre Slayer, Demon Slayer, Flame Slayer, and Dragon Slayer quests in the box. Create your adventurer and level up your skills as you complete the main quest along with side quests and prep for the final battle.
This game is played campaign style, where you move through all four main Slayer quests to reach the final battle with Elvarg the Dragon. At the time of writing this review, we've played through the first three main quests and have thoroughly enjoyed the game and the mechanics. Each kingdom of Misthlain has its own encounter deck, so as you move through the regions you experience random events.
The quests stay rather faithful to those of RuneScape, so veterans of the game will be delighted. My husband has not played RuneScape at all and has been extremely immersed in the board game and enjoyed how silly it can be sometimes (I kissed a frog... it was just a frog).
Abducktion
Time Needed: 30-45 minutes
Number of Players: 1-4 (base game)
Replayability: 1000000/10
Complexity: 7/10
Click-clacks: 11/10
It's ducks, do I need to say more?
Each player gets their own pattern board with ten slots in it with which to fill with ducks. What kind of sentence was that? Put ducks on your player board. They "flow" down little ponds as you play the game and make patterns based on prompt cards at the center of the playing area.
Need more ducks? Reach into the UFO and pull some out.
The click-clacks are great, the gameplay is great. I haven't played this one with a group yet who didn't like it.
Wyrmspan
Time Needed: 60+ minutes
Number of Players: 1-5
Replayability: 100/10
Complexity: 6/10
Click-clacks: Like a dragon's hoard 10000/10
Description from Publishers: You are an amateur dracologist in the world of Wyrmspan, a place where dragons of all shapes, sizes, and colors roam the skies. Excavate a hidden labyrinth you recently unearthed on your land and entice these beautiful creatures to roost in the sanctuary of your caves.
If you've played Wingspan and enjoyed it, you'll like Wyrmspan. Fill your three cave habitats with a plethora of amazing dragons from hatchling to ginormous sizes by enticing them with various kinds of food or loot.
This has quickly become a favorite of ours-- I'll probably say that too much because we just love games!-- because we do very much enjoy Wingspan, but we love dragons even more. The game comes with a booklet detailing every single dragon created just for this game.
This is one of those games that will definitely be different every time you play it because not only do you draw different dragons, but the overarching goals for the 4 rounds of the game are different each time you play. Don't get me wrong, I like the old reliable games, but replay value definitely shoots up on the creative ones like this if I'm guaranteed a different experience each time.
So if you're wanting to maximize and build the best dragon enclosures possible or just entice your favorites and raise a lot of eggs, this game has something for anyone wanting to invest the time.
Azul
Time Needed: 30-45 minutes
Number of Players: 2-4
Replayability: Yes/10
Complexity: 5/10
Click-clacks: They're like Starbursts, what's not to like?
This one has been on our list for a while and we finally found it on sale and bit the bullet. I wasn't sure what to really expect, but it's just pure fun for anyone who likes color matching and patterns.
The goal is to fill one horizontal row of your tile map on the right-hand side of your player board. You're pulling tiles from the circular areas in the center of the table and filling the stair-step rows on the left side of your board each round. At the end of a round, any completed rows on the left allow you to move one tile from that row into your tile map on the right. So you could get up to 5 tiles into your map per round if you play things right.
This is one of those games that sounds complex when you hear someone tell you about it or read the instructions, but once you play a round, it's really quite easy.
Highly recommend this one as a calm group game.

Everdell
Time Needed: 45-60 minutes
Number of Players: 1-4 (base game)
Replayability: Yes
Complexity: 9/10
Click-clacks: 10000000/10 (I want to eat them)
To say this game is fun is an understatement. We’ve been playing this game pretty much every evening for the last month or two with no signs of stopping (we even got one of the expansions since I first drafted this post). Welcome to the first of Everdell. The point of the game is to build a city of Constructions and Critters, each having their own unique action and point value. The player with the most points at the end wins.
You collect resources throughout the game: rocks, berries, sticks, and resin. With these resources, you are able to play Constructions and Critters into your city. This is largely a game of players working on their own city independently to be the winner overall, rather than directly impacting each other in a competitive gameplay experience. There are a few ways to get in your opponent’s way, but we’ve found that this game is just plain relaxing.
We highly recommend this game and if you can’t get your hands on the board game itself, we’ve also found that the app version is just as fun (at $10 in the App Store currently, this is a steal).
Everdell is good for all ages and learning the mechanics is easy, even if it looks daunting. Believe us, we taught Megan’s dad and Will’s niece and nephew to play over the weekend.
Age of Civilization
Minimum Time: 30-45 minutes
Number of Players: 1-4
Replayability: 8/10
Complexity: 7/10
Click-clacks: 5/10
We both like Sid Meier’s Civilization series, so this compact game looked like it was right up our alley. We also scored it for less than $20.
The rules are a tad confusing on the first run through, which is why I have it a higher complexity rating. After playing through four times, we’re both comfortable with it. Creative concept, 4.5 stars from me.
The game is played in six rounds, with the first round being slightly different, then the five that follow all being the same. You pick a civilization to be your “main”, which determines how many meeples you’re allowed to use as workers. Your goal is earning the green star points, which can be done via actions, work, specific World Wonders can give points, and your tech tree. The technology tree is what I liked best about this because I haven’t played a game yet with one, plus the click clacks are fun.
The only downside is this game requires quite a bit of space to play, despite the tiny cards. Not an issue if you have a clear table, but it is something to take into account.
There is a solo mode for this game, which we haven’t tried yet. But bonus points for *having* a solo mode.
There are coins, meeples, and technology points click clacks, all wooden. I wouldn’t recommend eating them.
Clearly, a lot of research went into this and it’s a well-made game. I give it an overall rating of 7/10 and immediately found a place for it in our travel case.
Here’s how I’ll be reviewing board games. First one goes up later today!
I’m going to start doing board game reviews on this blog, so look out for those soon!

Do you ever catch yourself staring at a person in public? Maybe they'd be a great drawing reference. Or do you just zone out in the general direction of people around you?
Even better, do you learn new perspectives about life from your friends and need to take notes? My friends and I have this thing we say when that happens and it's: "studying you like a bug"
So we made a shirt.
We have this one available in seven different colors now! Link below the cut!
