“Look at this letter from my wife on February 25. It has been censored again; whole paragraphs cut out. Why can’t they, if she has written too many words, subtract the words from the next letter? Or ask her not to write so much? I understand there are hundreds of letters which come to me. I never see them. They are destroyed. I think they should be saved for me so I can at least write and thank these good people if and when I am ever released. They are addressed to me and should be mine. Last night the Russian warder came in and saw my wife’s [birthday] flowers behind the bars of the windows. He took them away because ‘they were against regulations.’ Why can’t I have my flowers?”

Eva Braun in a baptism;
Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun (center), 1932.
This is one of my favorite photos of these two due to their facial expressions. I don’t know what she said that he seems to be disapproving of, but judging by her face she probably knew exactly what she was doing. Typical dynamics of their relationship.
Eva Braun’s bed in her Berghof bedroom. Anna Plaim, one of the Berghof maids, said: “I remember [Hitler had] a very simple bed. Even back then I wondered why the Fuhrer did not even have a down comforter, but slept with a common quilt. Eva Braun, for example, had a thick comforter… Her bed was large. Moreover, you could redesign her bed into a couch that looked like a proper living room couch.”
Hans Frank and his horrible wife…
The Queen of Poland? So this is Mrs Frank who said she’d rather be a widow than not being the Governor’s wife? Looks very parvenu to me!

In 1943, Maria von Maltzan, a German aristocrat, took Hans Hirschel, her Jewish lover, into her Berlin apartment to hide him from the Nazis.
April 20th is also the birthday of Max Wünsche, who became the ideal of Aryan male beauty, heroism, courage and honor. Throughout his whole life, he remained loyal to the Führer. Wünsche passed away in 1995, just two days before his 81st birthday. Last year I was able to visit his grave and honor the memory of the hero.
