I stood still, staring up at the dilapidated building.
One would think that after 50 years someone would have thought to renovate it, but those would only be the words of ignorance.
Balkov Abbey was a historical reminder of the peak of human cruelty. Disguised as a school for orphans, it was a hub of human experimentation and child abuse. There were even rumours that they were making mutant child soldiers as a bio weapon for the world war 3.
Now, in 2089, it was not more than an abandoned building, but just the history of it would send chills down the spine of anyone faint hearted. Luckily, I was not very afraid. Let's talk about why I am standing in front of such a horrific historical symbol. I am Victor Steele and I'm, well, a journalist. I have to write something about the world war and I thought about bio weapons and what better place to find out about bio weapons than Balkov Abbey?
I entered the building, confidently, but carefully as I looked around. There were broken glass and scrap pieces of metal which were the hi- tech machinery of one time. I searched the entire building, all the rooms until only one was left.
I tried opening the door, and I thought it would open, like all the others but to my surprise, it stayed shut. I tried to open it with all my might but I suppose the door hinges were just to rusted. That's when I heard a voice, a child's voice, singing a merry tune, though I could understand none of it. I followed the voice and I reached a sort of clear space in the middle of the Abbey.
There sat a child, with his back towards me, singing,
"Жил-был человек, я не фанат, Он открыл дверь и теперь он мертв"
It was a soft voice but somehow it sounded eerie. I called the child but he didn't respond and just kept on singing, louder now.
The area seemed to get darker somehow, and then I heard laughter, shrieking laughter. It would be melodies but for some reason it put a fear in my heart that I cannot explain. It was coming from behind me and I turned around, slowly.
There was another kid, with blonde hair and dirty, bloody clothes. He had scars on his bare feet and hands but what really terrified me was that, that, well, that he had no eyes. His eye sockets were empty.
I gasped, I was trembling and then I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and the previously singing kid was now facing me, levitating in mid air, and grinning showing all his teeth, an unnatural smile with inhumanly long canines. The same empty eyes sockets were staring a hole into my soul, and I couldn't move.
He stopped smiling and I feel over backwards. I scrambled away and started running as fast as possible. They were following me, I could feel it.
All I could hear was that damned laughter and that song.
"Жил-был человек, я не фанат ,Он открыл дверь и теперь он мертв"
Everywhere I looked their were eyeless children and I could see the exit, when suddenly the door slammed shut.
I tried opening it but it didn't open. The room was getting darker, they were coming, I couldn't do anything, I was gonna die.
"Last call for the passengers boarding the flight from USA to Russia"
I opened my eyes, I was sweating, I was shivering. I knew, I couldn't go to Russia, not in this lifetime, at least.
I got up and left the lobby, ignoring the calls of the air hostess. I exited the airport, got in my car and went straight home.
A few days later, as I was flipping through the channels, I paused as I heard something about Balkov Abbey. It was a news channel. I turned the volume up.
" A group of archaeological investigators went to scour Balkov Abbey for more information about the World War 3. Behind a locked door, which they had to break, they found files of many students there. Two of the files will now be shown on screen, these were said to be the top 2 students, as per research."
On the screen, I was horrified to see, two handsome teenagers, one with blonde hair and the other with red. They were grinning and one of them had unusually long canines.
" This was a week ago, all the members of that team have now been declared dead due to reasons such as heart failure and vehicle accidents."
I couldn't breathe. It really was a warning.
I had never been more grateful in my life.
