Broken

Match Day was today.

Background - So this application cycle was tough for me. Despite having spectacular grades and board scores, an institution I rotated at wrote me a recommendation letter that absolutely destroyed my application. I had no idea, and sent it out to all my top choices. I struggled to get residency interviews, and got very few in the location I wanted...essentially areas closer to family and friends. 

I matched at the bottom of my list today; far from family and friends. I was on the edge of breaking down at the ceremony. I’m happy for all my friends who got their top or close to top choices, I don’t want to be a downer on their celebrations -- Right now I feel more alone than I have ever in my life. 

I guess ultimately I’m employed, right?

The saddest thing

The saddest thing that anyone has ever told me was when my grandma looked at me and said "don't forget me, okay?"

I'll never forget you and your smile grandma. Thanks for helping raise me and being my grandma.

When it takes me a bit of time to figure out a patient’s diagnosis on practice questions I can only think of Dr. House speaking.

Currently thinking: “What causes a macular rash, lymphadenopathy, cyclic fevers, hepatosplenomegaly and anemia in a 12 y.o?”
