yannow not to be a gridania defender or anything but it rubs me the wrong way when people are like "gridania is the only one of the arr city-states which never solved its very obvious social and organizational problems and thus it's the Evil Racist One that it's fine to hate" because like. you understand that that is fully a result of the plot giving literally nothing to gridania ever, right? you understand that gridania's internal politics are never ever given the attention that ul'dah and limsa get? you understand that huge portions of post-arr and post-heavensward and post-stormblood and post-shadowbringers are dedicated to limsa and ul'dah's social issues and npcs and their relationships to each other? you understand how kan-e-senna's second-in-command, who is literally gridania's equivalent of raubahn, does not have a fucking name?

you understand how the two scions you're introduced to in the gridania start are important for at most two expansions, one of which they barely appear in, before disappearing from the story forever aside from cameos? as opposed to the scions you meet in limsa and ul'dah, who remain important for the rest of the game up til today???

yeah, i would fucking love for the main story to start questioning gridania about its institutional racism and trying to fix it, because that would mean that the main story gave a single fuck about gridania. give us some duskwight and seeker main characters please. give us duskwight and seeker lore please. give us SOMETHING. you can't even learn how gridania's government works without reading side stories, which has led to this weird misconception that kan-e-senna is like, a fascist despot who used the calamity to consolidate power!!! Give Gridania ANYTHING!!!!!

XIV Heatwave Festival- Week 2: Water

(Yes I know I'm a day late and yes I see that typo shhhh) For this week's theme, I revamped a very old comic of mine from when I was still very much a baby in the gposing scene that I loved. 🩵

My favorite thing they do in a video game where you can dress up your character is go to a cold region and the NPCs say Better bundle up! And start wearing their winter coats and scarves and so on for that section of the story. Technically as an audience we’d all survive if they just continued to wear the one outfit they were designed with, however impractical for the setting, because that is one of the many oddities that the honed gamer mind is trained to withstand. As the player you are yourself almost never forced to put on a practical glamour for this weather. But it just gets you in the spirit of the thing if everyone is toasty, and it’s really cute besides. The coat alt. And I like when they specifically encourage the player to dress warmly for these sections too, even or especially if it’s a game where there’s no actual Cold mechanic you have to equip against. The game encourages the user to play toys with it

#I HAD TO. I made my bf wait while I slapped together a big cozy warm (AND FUNCTIONAL) cold weather glam before we left for Ilsabard #genuinely one of my favourite sections. Im a little freak for immersive yet pretty yet functional outfits #and the game really said “okay heres where to change glams for cold time!! all the npcs will be in big jackets and weve given you one too!”#and I turned around and said “hold on I need boots and big warm gloves and make it all pearl white and navy blue. give me 15 minutes”

melin c+ edits complete. will hopefully be sticking with these.

if you're saying "hey, she doesn't look different at all" you've fallen for my trick

you see, i tend to give melin fairly serious expressions in gposes, using /furrow as a base, because i have an image of her that clashes with what her totally expressionless face looks like. i want her to be a bit more hardened and serious-looking than the sort of doe-eyed way she looks ordinarily. all i've done with c+ is bake that in to a small degree.

her eyes before (wide, sort of doe-eyed, a bit doofy but very cute)

her eyes now (slightly more angled inward, a bit more lidded, slightly less doofy, still very cute)

if you still can't see the difference... that's also fair. it's very subtle and i'm honestly not certain it matters to anyone except me. who is looking at her face this closely except me.

as a bonus, she no longer looks completely identical to tataru except for her eye, skin, and hair color (and her height)! this meme i made is no longer true.
