hey remember like two months ago when i mentioned i was probably going to do a postmortem on all of the gposes i did for The Fool's Errand? my fanfic about Melin's relationship with being the warrior of light? no? well, me neither until tonight. here we go!
this picture goes with the very beginning of the story, and coincidentally it's also the very first time i seriously tried to do a Real Scene in gpose. that is probably why is isn't great. it's kinda busy and hard to read, the colors aren't very vibrant, and the framing is weird. to be fair, it's hard to fit this many people in a frame, but perhaps i should've taken that as a sign to try something else.
this is the second image for chapter 1. pictured here are Melin's birth mom, Caelia (left) and her birth dad, Konu (right). this is probably the worst one in the entire story, lol. to be fair it's explicitly stated that it's really dark in the scene, but why did i think i needed to make the actual picture really dark!? they're also supposed to be terrified, which doesn't really come across.
this one's at the start of chapter 2. i finally figured out that filters can make things look better here, but i hadn't quite figured out how to frame a scene in any but the most obvious way yet. also i was way too obsessed with getting the tower in the background in shot, which i think hurts the overall composition. also gaius is kinda lost in the darkness of that tree, when his showing up is meant to be the focal point of the scene.
(yeah i know i've just been critical so far but i swear there are ones i like later)
i like this one! it's a simple idea to capture — Lyse dashes into the story, Melin is shocked — but i think it's reasonably well-executed. Lyse could've been on a lighter background, but the fact that Melin is next to the aetheryte is an explicit element of the scene.
sorry for the weird border thing, for some reason i haven't got an unedited version of this one so i had to use the edited version that went into the fic. this is a better version of the the first and third pictures, in that there are several people, but the framing is a bit more interesting and there's a stronger vibe to every individual character. melin is making an inside joke that lyse is laughing at and jullus doesn't get, and alisaie is pointedly refusing to explain it.
I like this one... it's one of my faves... the lighting is super strong and i like how it captures the dynamic of the scene. melin prepares to smash the hells out of something, while lyse and alisaie watch on with amusement. they have to keep this group apart because when they're together they're total menaces
this is caelia but slightly younger, preparing to leave Garlemald behind forever. she's fondly looking after the one family member whose guts she doesn't hate. it's really hard trying to find places in garlemald which don't look utterly demolished. this place still looks a bit worn, but that's the best i could do. the lalafell scoff expression is so versatile.
melin gets annoyed at a mammet in Noumenon, and she hasn't had a chance to change clothes since getting back from Garlemald. this goes with one of my most favorite and silliest scenes, in which Melin essentially navigates an automated helpline in the process of trying to figure out where G'raha is. it's as dumb as it sounds.
ahh! she's so gallant and brave!! she saved tataru from the mean guy with a sword!! unfortunately the scene has a punchline where the man wasn't actually threatening her, and melin ends up having just attacked this man unprovoked, but i still love this one. i feel like the framing and lighting are both really solid here, and i think it's cutes when melin is protective.
random sharlayan lalafell scientist my beloved. in the story she's a one-scene character whose entire existence is in service of a joke that isn't even really relevant, but i find the joke so unreasonably funny that i kept the scene in. just... please read chapter 6. it's so dumb. i love it. i remember this scene was a total pain to pose. i moved where it was taking place like three times to get the lighting and background right, and i think it's pretty good. melin isn't the focal point of the screenshot, so her fading into the background more makes more sense.
alright, that's 10 images. i'll do more later. there's 42 in total, so i guess i'll do 4 posts and the last one will just have two extra. see you on the next post!
