“Telescopes Capture Black Hole Spewing Out Matter Twice”

 Scientists from the University of Colorado at Boulder have spotted a rapidly growing supermassive black hole in the centre of a distant galaxy that appears to have consumed most of its large amounts of gas while blasting an outflow of high-energy particles. This outflow eventually switched off and then turned back on about 100,000 years later.  Although it seems like nothing escapes a black hole, this is not always entirely the case. Sometimes X-rays are produced by gas heated to millions of degrees by the enormous gravitational and magnetic forces near the black hole. While most of the gas will fall into the black hole, a portion will be expelled in the form of high-energy particles.  According to the optical data obtained from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the W.M. Keck Observatory in Mauna Kea, Hawaii, in the past, this black hole appeared to have consumed large amounts of gas while blasting off an outflow of high-energy particles. Yet eventually this outflow ebbed out.  This study presents strong evidence that accreting black holes are capable of switching their power output off and on again over timescales relatively short compared to the age of the universe.

A Pinlight, Bent is truly a fervent and somber attempt to make peace with the deleting, all-consuming essence of the void while asserting that some dimension of selfhood continues to exist, everlasting, in the distinct form of love:

As previously mentioned, when you love someone you let death in. But death makes love possible, and inevitable. We are able to love because we know that we die. So “selfhood” arguably the ontological definition of existence, is the very nature of being which includes the experience of mortality. Again, in being we are dying, and through death we conceive of love. So the selfhood, which is existing, is dying, is love. Amora obscura is a play on words insinuating that love works like a photograph, when you love it exists forever.

Joanna Newsom and Andy Samberg Welcome First Child

Joanna Newsom and Andy Samberg have welcomed their first child, a baby girl. Samberg’s representatives confirmed the news to Us Weekly. The couple have kept Newsom’s pregnancy private, and, as of now,  have not revealed the name of the child or any more information. Pitchfork has reached out to her representatives for comment. Newsom married the “SNL” star and Lonely Island musician in 2013 after dating for five years. In a recent interview, Samberg said, “It’s kind of like a weird music fan dream come true that we have been so in love, because I get to hear her play harp all the time.” Congratulations to the happy couple!
