The third, and final, episode in our series featuring excerpts from the 2012 Fork Union Sports Hall of Fame banquet features Coach Fletcher Arritt's acceptance speech. Arritt was chosen for the class of 2012 because of his 46 years of dedication to the Academy as a biology teacher and post-graduate basketball coach. As a coach, Arritt won 889 games and sent over 400 players to the collegiate ranks--a feat that will be hard to match at Fork Union, or any other school for that matter. 2012 was Arritt's last year as a teacher and coach at the Academy.
The other two episodes in this series are Jude LaCava's opening remarks and Shammond Williams' introductionof Coach Arritt. In addition to Coach Arritt, the 2012 class of inductees included longtime NFL All-Pro linebacker, Dexter Coakley; one of the nation's leading research experts on sports injuries, Dr. Frederick Mueller; and the late E.H. "Gus" Lacy, Jr., one of FUMA's legendary coaches and former athletic director. The event was held on June 14, 2012 on the campus of Fork Union Military Academy.
