in autumn you can smell the fields, burning far away
Candle Flames and how to read them in your spell work🕯
A lot know about Candle magic as far as candle colors, but some may not entirely understand the meanings behind the candle flame itself. And the flame has a significant meaning when doing any spell work, Divination, channeling, even just speaking to spirits or guides. But not just the flame, the smoke as well, and how it burns.
I also see passed around that you must pinch out or snuff out the flame. Not blow. However, my guides and Angels have told me it doesn’t matter how you extinguish the flame. It’s how you create the spell and the energy you put into it that matters most.
•Clean, good, burn- a quiet, decent flame, without much smoke, movement, and dripping is a good sign. The spell you are working on will go as expected.
•small, steady, low burning- not as much energy is being used to create the spell needed. But this flame isn’t necessarily a bad sign. Try using more energy as you’re working on the spell. It will grow if the energy increases. If not, be patient, it may take a while for the results to manifest.
•small flickering flame- this flame may bend a bit also. Your timing may be off or the spell you are working at may not have an outcome that will workout for you. If it drowns in the wax it’s not meant to be.
•Strong flame- There’s a lot of energy in your spell works and the outcome will be good and happen fast for you.
•Dancing flame- high chaotic energy is behind the spell work. Large=potential complications Small=overwhelming opposing forces. There could be outside forces working consciously or unconsciously against you. Just keep an eye on the flame for further signs.
•Flickering flame- If used in spiritual or religious work with God, Gods, Goddesses, Angels, Guides, then your invocation has worked and was acknowledged. It is also a sign a spirit is near. You may also use it for Divination and scrying.
•A flame that pops- more concentration and energy is needed in the spell work. But outside forces may be working against you if it’s uneven. The popping and noises mean that outside forces are communicating or interfering. If you hear other sounds than pops, listen as it may be outside forces like family or guides communicating.
•candle goes out- This can mean only two things… one: an outside opposing force has ended it and so you should ground yourself and let it alone. It’s not going to happen. Or two: the spell or what you were working for has already been attained.
•quick burn- there’s a lot of passionate energy in your spell work.
•Blue flame- A sign of spiritual presence, usually angels, and divine spirits.
•Red or Yellow flame- smaller but still powerful energy is fueling your spells.
•candle will not light- The spell you desire to work on is unattainable at present. It’s outside of your control or may have already been decided. Not everything can be influenced by spells. Take some time to reflect on yourself on why you were stopped from attaining your spell work. Meditate, ground yourself, do a spiritual cleansing, do Divination and ask questions as to why you weren’t able to. After meditation, cleansing, grounding, you might be in a better mind frame to go forward with it again.
•Flame will not go out- YOU ARE NOT DONE. You are being told to go back. You either missed a step, a message, something along the way and need to do more.
•Dense Black smoke- Typically means negative energy. Meditate, ground yourself, and do a spiritual cleanse before continuing because there may be opposing purposes, forces at work, bad luck, and conflict.
•White smoke- signs of benevolent spirits and blessings. Sometimes it comes as a puff of white at a certain moment.
•Lots of smoke- The air element is at work with your spell. Watch the smoke to see if there are any signs for you.
•Smoke moving towards you- A good sign that you will gain what you seek. The exception is hex, vex, and negative spell work. If this happens or it fills the room, this is a sign that you will pay the consequences for your spell and there is no escape. Threefold/karma is tricky. And truly there is nothing that justifies any type of negative spell work.
•Smoke moving away from you- usually not a good sign in spell work as this means your loosing what you tried to obtain. But in healing and influence spell work, this is a good sign as it means everything is going according to plan. Watch the smokes direction, speed, and shape.
•Candle soot- You can actually read into your spell work by the soot left from your candle and flame. Black soot can be a sign of negative energy or outside interference at work. You want to read the amount and the locations of the soot to tell you the outcome. If the soot covers the entire surface, your workings have been foiled and you’ll more than likely need to redo it. If it’s only on the top, the obstruction has more than likely been overcome. White soot indicates spiritual assistance and communication.
Happy spell work and flame reading🕯💛✨🤘🏻 (post created by me please don’t remove credit)

❄ IMƁOLC ❄~ 31st Jan/1st Feb
Imbolc (pronounced eem-bolgh or eem-bullugh), also called (Saint) Brigid’s Day (Irish: Lá Fhéile Bríde ), is a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of spring.
Most commonly it is held on 1st February (it usually begins on the night of 31st January), about halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man: it is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals.
It is believed that it was originally a pagan festival associated with the goddess Brigid and that it was Christianized as a festival of Saint Brigid, who herself is thought to be a Christianization of the goddess. At Imbolc, Brigid’s crosses were made and a doll-like figure of Brigid, called a Brídeóg, would be paraded from house-to-house. Brigid was said to visit one’s home at Imbolc. To receive her blessings, people would make a bed for Brigid and leave her food and drink, while items of clothing would be left outside for her to bless.
Brigid was also invoked to protect homes and livestock. Special feasts were had and holy wells were visited.
Okay, whatever’s hanging around that keeps flitting through my right eye’s peripheral vision….
Knock that shit off.
I’m going out to buy cinnamon and cayenne pepper and when I get home, your ass is SO getting booted.
Ain’t got time for your ghostie nonsense today. Nope.
Cayenne pepper, huh? I’ll have to try that mix because my salt and sage isn’t working on whatever keeps scratching at my back door while I try to sleep.
Oh honey….here, have a thing.
2 parts Cayenne Pepper 1 part Cinnamon 1 part Black Salt (equal parts salt and powdered charcoal) ½ part Black Pepper ½ part Powdered Eggshell
Shake it up, sprinkle it where you don’t want things coming in, pitch it in the corners to weed things out, toss a little on your doorsteps to keep the nasties from coming back.
Bree’s Banishing Powder. There are those who swear by it, including me.

Effective Tarot Questions
Questions should be focused on yourself and your experience rather than someone else. For example the third question to follow is the most appropriate to ask rather than putting the focus on another person …
What is the reason behind Jamie’s bad grades at school? How can I help Jamie get better grades at school? What role do I play in Jamie getting bad grades at school?
Questions to Avoid
The Tarot cannot provide specific data such as dates or names. It is also unable to answer with a simple yes or no. So…
Avoid questions that ask for a time-related answer.
Avoid questions that require a name as their answer.
Avoid questions that would need a yes or no answer.
Avoid questions that require a choice between one thing and another. (In this instance it is better to gain more information in a reading and then for you to make this decision).
Effective Questions
Effective questions should be of a positive nature in order to attract constructive insight. Ask how to create something in your life rather than focusing on any negatives. They may begin something like this…
What is the energy surrounding …
What is the meaning / lesson of …
What is going on when …
What are the circumstances underlying …
What do I need to know about …
What do I need to know to decide on …
What do I need to understand / know about …
What do I need to know to get along better with …
What can I do to reconnect with …
How might I …
How can I resolve …

Moon Water
Moon water can be used for a variety of things. It can be used to cleanse and purify magical tools and objects (after I cleanse the object with sage or fire, I like to rub some moon water on it for an extra touch). It can be used to heal small wounds; think of it as a kiss from the Moon. It can also be rubbed onto your body for rituals, especially rituals honoring the moon. If you do this, you would just dab some water on your forehead, wrists, chest/abdomen, and your feet. Or you can dip a feather into the water and sprinkle it over your body. All you need to make moon water is the cleanest water you can get (spring water is fine. But if you can’t get clean water, tap water is ok), a container (preferably silver-colored, but not necessary), and the full moon.
Making moon water is very simple. Just pour the water into the container, (my container was a silver bucket. I put aluminum foil on the opening to keep bugs and dust out. And the foil is silver, so it worked). Then set it outside or on a window sill during the full moon. You can do it just on the day of the full moon, or the day before, the day of, and the day after the full moon. It adds extra power since the moon is still pretty much full the day before and after and of course, the significance of the number 3.
When the full moon is over, Store the water in a dark place, as it’s moon water and the moon usually comes out at night. I poured my water into an empty perfume bottle so I can easily spray it on things and myself. I didn’t clean it well enough apparently so the moon water smells like sweet pea flowers XD If you put it in a perfume bottle, I would suggest not using it to clean open wounds or burns (bruises are fine) because you don’t want the perfume residue to get into your cut. I guess I could have bought a cheap spray bottle, but I just had an empty perfume bottle laying around so I used it lol. You can also keep it in the silver container or put it in a jar or bottle.
If you would like, you can say a chant or verse after you have the moon water made or before you use it each time. My own verse that I used after I made it is “Oh Goddess of the moon, I use this water to cleanse and purify under your protection and guidance. So mote it be.” Feel free to use that verse or make up one of your own.

How to Make Your Own Rosewater (the easy way!)
Collect rose petals, enough to fill a large pot.
Place petals in pot, fill water just over petals, simmer on LOW, do not let the water boil. When the water turns redish and the petals wither and float to the top it’s done.
Strain water into jar. If necessary, place a bowl under jar to save water.
There you are! Homemade rosewater. Add oil or anything you desire, I added vanilla to my rosewater. Refrigerate until cool, then you can pour rosewater into smaller bottles for spritzers :)
(Optional) I saved the petals to grind in my motar, and poured the water into my jar as well as squeezing out any excess water in the petals.

Witches Ladders
So, today we’re going to talk about a slightly more obscure tool: the witch’s ladder. There’s some debate as to whether or not this was a commonly used tool in older European traditions of witchcraft. In the late 1870’s a witch’s ladder, along with a collection of brooms, was found in the attic of a recently deceased woman in Somerset, sparking suspicions of witchcraft. Unfortunately, it’s not actually known whether or not this object was really used in witchcraft or how widespread the use may have been if it was. More on the history of these tools can be found here.
Now, what is a witch’s ladder? It’s a type of knot talisman made by inserting small objects into a length of cord, traditionally rooster feathers and sometimes small bones were used but you can use locks of hair, teeth, beads, sticks, leaves, seashells or pretty much anything that works for your practice.
Originally, it’s thought that they were used to curse but their uses in modern practices are endless. I’ll be making one to protect my house and create easier communication with the Other Realms.
How to Make a Witches Ladder
Ok, to start us off we need a few supplies. There are three main things that I’m using.
First is the cord, feel free to use whatever material you like. When I’m doing work like this I prefer to use regular old kitchen twine. It’s sturdy and not overly processed. You could use yarn, thread, rope, sinew or ribbon as well though.
The second thing that I’ll be using is a couple of small bones, I’m using six because I like working with multiples of three.
Finally, the feathers. These are brown mourning dove feathers; I’m using these as opposed to another type of feather because they’re good for communicating with Spirit and for fostering awareness.
I would like to mention here that while handy in the craft, collecting bones and feathers that you find can be illegal. Most birds are protected species and regardless of whether you found the feathers or ripped them off of the bird yourself, possessing them is illegal. Be sure to check the laws in your area. This problem can usually be solved by writing a letter to the appropriate wildlife officials asking for permission to pick up specific types of bird feathers for a collection. Once written permission is obtained it only has to be kept with the feathers to avoid any ramifications. Of course, if you’re not going to be waving about rare bird feathers in the town square this is probably unnecessary.
As I said, you can replace bones or feathers with whatever you like. Use Barbie arms if that’s what floats your boat. I usually use nine items in mine and the traditional number would be thirteen but feel free to adjust this to fit your needs.
Another optional material would be a metal ring, you can tie the ladder to this and use that to hang it from a hook on the ceiling or something if you like. I’ll just be using a thumbtack.
As always prep yourself and your workspace however you prefer. Cast a circle, take a ritual bath, light some incense, maybe put on some music. Consecrate your supplies and get to work.
The creation of a witch’s ladder is surprisingly simple and quick. Take your cord and cut three equal lengths. How long you make it is up to you, for example, I like each length to be from the fingertips of my left hand to my heart in length. Tie the ends together, if you are using a metal ring, tie it to the ring; otherwise just an overhand knot on the end does the trick.
Start braiding, for this one I used your typical three-strand braid but you could add and subtract cords and use rope braids, fishtail braids or five strand braids as well. As you braid begin adding in your objects. I don’t do anything special, I just keep braiding as usual while adding my feathers and stuff in between two strands. Here’s a close-up of my ladder partially finished.
I spread mine out semi-evenly along the length of the cord, if you’re a stickler about getting things even then make sure you remember that you’ll lose about a third of the cord length in the process of braiding.
As you add each item to the ladder spend a few moments to state your intention or meditate on the purpose of your spell. I kind of just spend the entire time I’m making the ladder talking to it and telling it what I would like of it. You could also use the traditional nine knot spell if incantations are your thing. I find them too constricting for my practice but for those of you who prefer more ritualized working here it is
“By knot of one, the spell is begun
By knot of two, it cometh true
By knot of three, so mote it be
By knot of four, the open door
By knot of five, it comes alive
By knot of six, the spell is fixed
By knot of seven, it has the power of heaven
By knot of eight, the open gate
By knot of nine, it is mine”
After all of your items are in place you need to finish your cord. You can just tie a knot in it and either trim the excess cord or let it hang there, or you can add something to the end as a sort of weight, bells are a common choice. Feel free to let it charge in the light of the moon or sun if you like.
Once it’s completely done take it and hang it somewhere, I like to have them on my porch but hanging it in your room or kitchen works as well. If the spell is more malicious I’d suggest hiding it away somewhere close to your target instead of hanging it.
Here’s my finished ladder, hanging out on my porch.
A few ideas for uses of these lovely tools:
Warding magic - Use to create a “Do Not Enter” sign for unfriendly energies. The ladder conveys the meaning that those who would harm are unwelcome.
Attraction magic - Use it to attract people, familiars, ideas, mindsets, jobs, circumstances, luck, etc. into your life
Binding the thirteen moons of the year - This is a method used to harness the power of the thirteen full moons of the year, allowing you to perform weather magic and nature magic more easily and opening the doorway to the Other Realms.
Traveling - Ladders can be used as a gate into the Other Realms. An actual “ladder” for your spirit to climb up into various planes
Natural magic - You can use items related to the branch of nature that you work with. For me it’s trees but perhaps you work with the ocean, mountains, forests, animals, insects, and so on.
Wish magic - You can use rolled up slips of paper or pressed leaves and make a ladder with them, writing your wish on each one. As the ladder is slowly destroyed by the elements, your wish comes true.
Divination - I’ll need to make a full post about this if anyone is interested, it’s a tad complicated
Worship - You could use a witches ladder as an offering to a deity, perhaps as a nine day devotional where you tie in an offering every day and ending with hanging it on the last day
Curses - and of course, witches ladders can be used to curse.
As usual, if anyone has any questions or would like me to make a follow up post on anything I’ve mentioned here, let me know!

SAFE DRIVING CHARM Alright anyone who lives in a home with a kitchen could make this in roughly 5 minutes 1. Burn the sigil and mix the ashes with salt (to make a sort of black salt but it will be more gray) 2. Fill your jar (or sachet I guess) in this order: salt mix, rosemary, cloves Thanks to @witchphreak for giving me me a sigil to use
