Morning Thoughts

The first thought that I had this morning was of how it had been such a long time

Since I had woken up feeling as sad as I felt

My second thought was of how it had been even longer

Since you hadn’t been my first

As a nice change, I woke up this morning filled with excitement

My mind was overflowing with a love-filled conversation that needed to be had

Not necessarily about love itself, but with words that I would love to have spoken

I drowned in the hypothetical until I became lost with in it

And on my return to reality, I realised

I had forgotten who it was that I had wanted to listen.

For the rest of the day I wracked my memory trying to recall

Straining to remember who, amongst all others, would share my happiness

And why they should be the only one to hear

No names came forward and no faces were presented

I was fixated the whole day through

And just as I resigned myself to failure, I realised

I had forgotten what it was that I had wanted to say.
