SURF’N SAFARI My annual beach pic! I enjoyed doing last year’s KP pic so much I decided I wanted to do a sequel. I’d love to take full cred for the pose but it was inspired by both Julian Jordan’s exceptional KP work as well as this familiar S4 new mission outfit promo art. This follow-up takes place on the same beach day as my previous work, Changes in Latitude. The title is yet another beach themed song nod, the Beach Boy’s "Surfin’ Safari". I also managed to squeak in two easter eggs! The first is a nod to a very miraculously gifted designer from another favorite show of mine. The second is an extremely appropriate nod to one of my favorite Disney parks that also happened to be featured in another rendition of Surfin’ Safari during the Mickey’s Fun Songs beach special I had on VHS when I was a kid. A ‘90s Kind of Kim Without a doubt, I’m a “‘90s baby”, and the decade certainly culminated in some of 2D animation’s most beautiful art stylings made from a wellspring of top notch animators who had perfected the craft. So imagine my nostalgia nerd-out when I recently came across Kim Possible’s familiar face but in a uniquely different design that took me back to some of my favorite films (Balto, Mulan, We’re Back, FernGully, All Dogs, to name just a few). Then imagine the extra mind explosion when I realize that sketch work I came across was done by Jeffrey James Varab who had a major hand in animating those beloved movies. Long story short, I had to bring this adorable ‘90s version of Kim to full life so I did some line art polishing, make some minor additions, inked, and colored a full rendering of his sketch. As I did the coloring/shading and background work, I made a point to rewatch some of my favorite scenes from those movies recently so that I could make an overall composition that reflected a little bit of a modern KP styling infused with that familiar style I grew up with. I also reached out to James for permission to run with the final piece and to put his signature on the final print. Thankfully, he gave full approval and was delighted with the rendition, and even complimented the coloring technique. Karaoke Cosplay: Space Unicorn If you’re a major fan of Star vs. the Forces of Evil, you’re probably pretty familiar with the show’s reoccurring jingle, “Space Unicorn.” The first time I heard it on the show I immediately recognized the hilarious vibes of the song’s artist, Perry Grip. After watching the official music video for “Space Unicorn”, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the idea of Star Butterfly and Princess Pony Head cosplaying as the titular characters so I decided to make it happen. Admittedly, the background was a bit painstaking to do but I’m really excited about the way the colors and lighting turned out. Hardcore fans will recognize Mewni’s low mewman language script on the display screen for the karaoke machine which translates back to the opening lyrics of the song: Space Unicorn Soaring through the stars Delivering the rainbows All around the world Anywho, I hope you enjoy!

Changes in Latitudes My once a year go at a summer beach themed pic!  Kim’s pose is my own take on a sketch I came across by Spanish Disney artist Julian Jordan. Building out the background almost drove me insane but I think the final was worth it. The title is a nod to a popular Jimmy Buffett song/album by the same name. If you’re a hardcore Miraculer, you might recognize Marinette’s paper mache dress from her sketchbook in webisode 102. I’m personally not a fan of the webisodes but I really liked the concept of this dress.

Rather than do something traditionally made out of newspaper print, I thought it would be fun to think like Marinette and do something vibrant while making a referential nod to Paris’ days of fashion past. Le Petit Écho de la Mode was a weekly fashion magazine that was published for more than 100 years but sadly ended in 1983. As an tribute, Marinette has taken more than 50 covers from the magazine and fashioned them together as her dress with a light blue staining.

A fun request on behalf of @sharperthewriter for the 12th Annual Fannies Awards. This year’s theme centered around Southern style attire and cuisine so Sharp’s Kim Possible wardrobe called for a fun overalls look. I think KP’s look turned out pretty spank’n! As an added touch, I gave Kim a magnolia (the flower of mine and Sharp’s home state) to accent her outfit.
