📝 Granted, corn dogs are expected to be greasy but there's a certain standard of greasy when it comes to buying food at Stage Door Café 🙃 It's a very rare occasion when something "wows" us here 🦄 but then again this quick service location just appears to exist out of convenience. You don't come to Stage Door Café and expect something out of the ordinary, though pre-park closure you could find some variety here with grilled chicken spinach wraps and chicken fried steak sandwich menu offerings 🥬 Chances are if you're coming here it's because the location is convenient, it's one of the few restaurants open late, or somebody is screaming their head off because they want chicken tenders 🤣 No judgment 🙈 All skepticism aside we decided to give the Halloween Time corn dog a chance because it did sound interesting...and we were hungry, they had mobile ordering and it was conveniently located nearby 😂 This is a hand-dipped corn dog that has a spicy beef frank inside and is topped off with cheese sauce and "crushed spicy chips" 😬 While the signage inside the restaurant doesn't indicate it this item comes with your choice of side: a small bag of chips or mandarin oranges 🍊 However, come to find that French fries are also available as a side 😯 At $8.49 everything about this item seemed to be a winning combination 🔥 and upon further inspection we realized this item was even cheaper than the classic "Little Red Wagon" corn dog 😨 A whole $1.30 cheaper and that's before the Magic Key discounts 🤭 AND it comes with fries?! 😱 But what's really wild here is while writing this up we noticed that the standard menu corn dog available here is the same price as the "Little Red Wagon" corn dog 😐 So, the seasonal offering - which is the same portion size and is even a little more extra than the original item - is cheaper? 🤨 We can't understand why, but right on ✊ One of those "act while you can" deals, we guess 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♀️ But are things really as good as they seem? 🤔 Unfortunately the quality here is just as we remember 😖 While visually impressive this corn dog is much greasier than what we'd get from the Little Red Wagon on Main Street USA 😓 and that's not just from the addition of the cheese sauce and flamin' hot 🙊 sprinkling. The added greasiness makes this a little unappetizing but in our particular case it didn't make the item completely inedible 😅 We ate this with a knife and fork just due to the pure size of the item 🍽 and while the item has "spicy" in the name it's a very mild heat 😙 It mostly comes from the spicy beef frank, which we did enjoy 😋 The unfortunate thing about this item for us was that it didn't distinctly taste like anything in particular ☹️ The cheese sauce and flamin' hot toppings really didn't add much for flavor 😞 On the plus side, they make for a good dipping "sauce" for our side of French fries 🍟 which were also mediocre enough. Do we regret trying this? Not at all 😊 Do we regret that this is the last Disneyland corn dog we'll have until who knows when? Yes 🥲 We should have stuck to the classic. But if you prefer having a side of French fries over a side of chips or mandarin oranges and don't mind saving a couple bucks at the expense of sacrificing quality, this is the value you want to go for 👍
