"How do I know you’re telling the truth?" Asked Neal softly, his eyes studying the other boy for any hint of a lie. He couldn’t find one though and…honestly..he was kind of starting to consider that he was right.
Phoenix looked him in the eyes and said sincerely, "Because I have never lied to you before. Why would I start now?" he asked him. He then stood up and held down his hand to help Neal up. "Let's go home, please? It's cold down here." he chuckled slightly.
"Then explain something to me…explain why every birthday, every milestone I ever hit, every year I always saw sadness in my parent’s eyes…explain why everyone compares me to her….to them….I’m a replacement. I’m just the son of Snow White and Prince Charming, and the brother of the savior. That’s all I’ll ever be….there’s nothing else. It would be better if I never went back home again. " Said Neal, as his brown eyes looked on at Nix.
"Of course they're sad that they didn't get to see Emma grow up. But they're happy that they have you. You are not a replacement. And you think you're the only one that has problems with not being anyone else? I'm the son of Captain Hook, the Grandson of Davy Jones. The only person that has never made that distinction is you, just like I have never made it for you. To me, you're Neal. To you, I'm Nix, we've been together through thick and thin. If we never have anyone else, we still have each other because that's what brothers are for."
"No you’re not….you just did it because you’re my parent’s errand boy..you don’t really care about me. Because there’s nothing to care about…I’ve always hated myself, all they did was confirm that everything I thought but denied was true. My sister hates me, she can’t even say my name when she talks to me….my parents…they love Emma…I’m just the replacement. Thats all I ever was." Said Neal as he broke out of Nix’s grasp.
"I am not just your parents errand boy. They gave me a choice to look after you and I chose to protect you because I care about you. Yes your parents love Emma, but they love you too just as much. You never have been nor will you ever be a replacement. Now come on, let's get you out of here. We'll go home and get you something to eat and into a warm bed."
Neal just stood there with his arms hanging limp as Nix hugged him tightly. The snakes’ words were in his mind, repeating themselves over and over. What if they were right…what if his family didn’t love him? He’d always thought his father considered him a failure…that Emma hated him…but..he’d always told himself it was wrong.
"I’m sorry..you shouldn’t have come for me." Said Neal softly. " You shouldn’t have gone through all that trouble just for me."
"What?" Phoenix asked as he pulled out of the hug. He kept his hands on Neal's arms and looked him in the eyes. "Why would you say that? You're my little brother, I'm not going to just sit by while no one knew if you were dead or alive. Your parents and sister are worried sick about you. They are so scared that something happened to you."
Nix then realized what the snakes had been doing to him, they had been feeding him lies about how his family didn't love him. He'd been hearing that for days.
Phoenix placed his hands on either side of Neal's face so he couldn't look away. "I would go to the ends of the Earth to protect you, there is nothing that I wouldn't do to keep you safe." Phoenix leaned in and kissed Neal's forehead and then hugged him again. "I'm just glad I found you."
"So this is the grandson of the great Pirate Davey Jones, and the son of Captain Hook." Said Flotsam, as he and Jetsam circled around Nix. Jetsam chuckled, and hissed as well.
“Yes this is….the bastard son of a pirate, who was unwanted by his father. He barely pays you any mind does he, no he only cares for the savior. She cares for you little as well doesn’t she, deep down you know if given the chance she would abandon you.” Said Jetsam, Neal looked up and glared at the two snakes.
" No, thats not true, Killian and Emma love Nix, with all of their hearts." Said Neal defensively when one of them turned to face him.
“Yes, just as your parents supposedly love you. Your sister despises you….she can barely even say your name without thinking of the man who had wronged her..isn’t that right?” Said Jetsam, Neal looked down at the ground. Recalling what they’d said earlier.
Seeing Neal the way he was, cold, starving, and completely defeated made Phoenix's blood boil. Hearing what these snakes had to say was completely mad. He new that Snow and Charming loved Neal, they were going insane with worry over their only son's disappearance. He also knew that Killian loved him, he had almost died to save him once.
"Alright, this has gone on long enough." Phoenix stated, he gripped his sword tighter and when the first snake turned towards him to address him, he swung, cutting off the giant snake's head in one blow. The other snake screeched and snapped at him, but Phoenix jumped out of the way and landed a blow on the other snake. The blow sliced half way through the snake so Nix swung again and chopped the head off.
He stood there for a few seconds trying to catch his breath, but then he quickly sheathed his sword and ran over to Neal, embracing him tightly. "Oh thank God I found you."
Neal looked around at the dark cave he was trapped in, he sighed as his brown eyes searched for a way out. The nineteen year old concentrated, and a fireball formed in his hand. He smiled, and looked up, for a way out when he saw a way deeper into the cave. There was a feeling in his gut telling him this was a bad idea…still what other choice did he have.
"Poor child….poor..poor child"
He looked around, for whatever was causing the voices but saw nothing but darkness….even with the fireball in his hand.
"Yes..poor..poor child.."
Said another much higher pitched voice, that sounded like a child’s whisper.
"Who are you?"
“I am Flotsam, and this is my brother Jetsam” Said one of the voices and Neal’s eyes widened as two giant snakes appeared from the blackness of the cave. Their eyes were big and milky white, while their teeth looked like they couldn’t fit in their mouths. Immediately Neal through fireball after fireball at them and when that didn’t work, he found he was out of breath. He wished he’d brought his sword or his bows and arrows.
"What are you?" Asked Neal, looking up at the creatures.
" We are the voices that speak the truth..and we know all about you Prince Neal, the brother of the saviour and the product of true love. The son, who was only a replacement for the daughter they did not get to raise." Said Flotsam,
"No…my family loves me." He replied, and glared at them.
"Then why did you pause….haven’t you always known that they have always loved Emma more than you. She is their firstborn, she is the savior, she is the powerful one, the stronger one…the one they regretted sending away." Said Jetsam
They love both of us the same…yeah, Emma is stronger, Emma’s..Emma’s better than me all around. But you don’t know me..not at all.” Said Neal, trying hard not to listen..still they were right, said a tiny voice in his head.
" All you are is a replacement for the child they wanted, every time you had a milestone..you would see it in their eyes wouldn’t you..you would see how much they wished they were seeing Emma’s first moment..not you." Said Jetsam
Neal shook his head, as memories resurfaced, everytime he brought home good grades, every time, he lost a tooth, or had a bad dream, every time, he saw that look…it was a look like they were thinking…maybe..no his parents loved him..they did…really.
"Emma will always be the child they really wanted, you will always be second best…just the replacement…the spare"
Neal bit his lip, as he remembered all the times he’d failed his parents, in something that Emma excelled at. Like magic or swords…he would never compare to his sister, never. He wasn’t powerful…he wasn’t strong..he was weak..he didn’t deserve to be the son of Snow White and Prince Charming…didn’t deserve to be Emma’s brother…
He was a nothing….
Days... Neal had been missing for days. Phoenix was going out of his mind with worry, Snow couldn't stop crying, David was getting angrier by the day that someone would take his boy, Emma and Killian were trying everything they knew to find out where her brother was.
Nothing was working.
Phoenix was pacing back and forth trying to think of anything they could do to locate Neal, then it hit him. A locator spell. He remembered Neal making some just in case someone disappeared. Which happened a little too often in their family's case.
He quickly ran up to Neal's room and opened the box that he kept his potions in, he dug a little and found one. He grabbed one of Neal's shirts, his sword and daggers, then snuck out the back way so no one would see him.
He poured the potion onto the search and then began his quest to find the boy who was like a little brother to him.
After hours of walking, he finally ended up at the water, he brought along Neal's potions just in case and he knew that there was one for breathing underwater. He grabbed it, drank it and then dove in.
He ended up swimming for a long ways before coming to the mouth of a cave, the shirt was still going, so he continued to follow it. He followed it into the cave and up until he ended up on dry land. He heard talking and he recognized part of it as Neal's voice. He slowly drew his sword so he didn't create a sound and then continued into the cave.
As he was walking though, he accidentally kicked a rock which cause it to echo throughout the entire cave. The voices stopped and then he heard slithering, and hissing... coming straight towards him. Phoenix held onto his sword tightly when two giant snakes approached him.

"Of course, lad," he said with a grin, knowing that his son would want his favorite fruits. "I’m sure that you will find plenty for you to eat. Along with some oats if you want it."
"Really?" he smiled wide. They didn't get a lot of fruit, or oats for that matter, on the ship so this was really special for him.

"I suppose," Liam said uncomfortably. He didn’t like pirates to begin with, and the fact that Killian had become one bothered him more than he showed. He followed after Phoenix with a slight nod.
Phoenix lead him to the inn and up to his room. He opened the door and left it open for Liam, then he went and sat down on his bed and laid back against the headboard. He adjusted the sword on his hip to get more comfortable. "I still can't wrap my head around the fact that my uncle is alive."

"The inn. Right," Liam sighed. "Weren’t you looking for work, though?" he questioned. "The day’s still young, I’m sure you’ll find plenty of opportunity here. Never enough dockhands," he added, then sighed again. "If we’re going to the inn, though…lead the way," he gestured.
"I was, but who are we kidding. A pirate and honest work? Doesn't really mix that well." he chuckled. "Let's go to the inn." He began his walk down the road towards the place he had been staying.
"Thanks, it goes both ways too…I’ll be there for you. Although I think we’ll both need each other, once we get back to the palace. Don’t think our parents are going to be happy about…this." He replied, though he knew that Killian would probably go lighter on Nix than his own parents would on him.
"I'm not going to be the one in trouble. Your parents sent me after you so you wouldn't get yourself killed." He replied. His dad had agreed with the King and Queen and who better to protect the prince than the son of Captain Hook.

"Hey, if I’d had my magic I could’ve taken them down." Said Neal, slightly flustered. " Still..thanks for coming and bailing me out. I don’t know what I’d do without you. "
"You'd crash and burn epically." Phoenix joked. "You're welcome. You know that I won't let anything happen to you." he smiled and ruffled Neal's hair. "I'll always be there when you need me."

"I….but I was there the whole time, I…" Liam gulped and shook his head, crossing his arms, almost huddling against himself. "I need to see Killian. As soon as he comes back," he said in a more determined voice. At this point, a couple of days shouldn’t make much of a difference. but now that he knew where his brother was, he wanted to see him immediately.
Phoenix sighed. He knew how much his father missed Liam, but he had no idea how he would react to this. "How about we go back to the inn that I am staying at. When my father shows up, that is where he will come. He told me that it was going to be today or tomorrow, so he could show up any minute."
A letter to the captain: "Why hello there captain It's been a long time. Let's play a game, shall we? Let's have a race. Let's have a race to see what will happen first. Your son's death, or your surrender. Interesting ultimatum, don't you think? Perhaps we should talk about this more in person. Meet me at the tavern where you first met her tomorrow at sundown. And you know exactly who I'm talking about. Then we'll talk. See you soon Killian."
Killian looked over the note in his hand his heart suddenly dropping as he read it. He hadn’t seen Phoenix all day. He did give him the space he needed from time to time, but he only just realized that something was wrong. Then the note. It didn’t take long for the anger to start bubbling up. He remembered where this person meant, but he had no idea who they were. The crew seemed rather frightened when he barked that he had somewhere to be. Partly because they hadn’t seen him that angry for a long time. Living without his heart for a while and then having his son back in his life had done that.
When he arrived to the place, he glanced over the note again, sure that he would make sure that whoever this was, payed for threatening him and especially his son.
There was a man sitting with his feet on the table with a mug of ale in his hand and grin on his face. "Hello, Killian." he said with a cheerful voice. He could finally get his revenge on the man who stole the love of his life and caused her death.
"It's been a while hasn't it." he chuckled. He of course had Phoenix at a different location with an accomplice of his holding a sword to his throat. And if he wasn't back within two hours, the boy would have his throat slit.
