In the spirit of the evening, we all made some resolutions for the year ahead. Mine is to lose some weight once I’ve had the baby, Geeta aspires to write a book of some description “to preserve my [her] greatness,” and Raj is seeking a promotion at work. All achievable goals? We’ll see about that!

Finally, Raj and Geeta helped me move in to their flat across the hall. It’s lovely and spacious - I’m going to love living here, I think!

When I got home, Raj and I got on with all the legal stuff and general bureaucracy that’s been building up for us - this includes filing for a prenup, marriage certificate, talking to the landlady… all the boring stuff. But at least it’s done now.

This morning I met up with Saya Mori, my boss (I’m her campaign manager) to tell her about my pregnancy. She was actually really supportive - though I suspect that this was partly because it boosts her image to have a “wholesome working mum” on her team. She’s agreed to make arrangements so that I can work from home whenever I need, allowing me to balance family life with my career. How lucky am I?

It’s New Year’s Eve and there’s a lot to get done so I can start this exciting next chapter of my life in the new year. So that means chores, chores, chores!

So I called Raj over to tell him, and despite the initial shock, he was actually quite excited! Especially since it means we can start a family without having to adopt or woohoo ever again. Tomorrow I’m going to move in with him and his mum across the hall, and we can sort out all the legal stuff too. Oh, and I guess I need to speak to work now, huh.

I’m lucky to have a friend like Siobhan. She just comforted me, and let me talk through all my jumbled thoughts until  arrived at the conclusion that I want this baby.

Siobhan: Seems to me like you’ve already made your mind up - you want to keep it. Something in the way you talk whenever you mention having the baby.

Eliza: Is it the right thing to do?

Siobhan: I can’t tell you that. But if it’s what you want, then I think it is the right thing to do. Whatever you decide I’m sure Raj will support you, he’s a good guy. BUT you need to tell him, girl! He IS your husband now. So, uh, you two should be living together anyway. It’s a bit weird that you aren’t.

Eliza: In fairness, it’s all been a bit of a whirlwind. We haven’t had time to make arrangements!

Siobhan: What’s your secret though, girl? I can’t land a first date and you’re wifed up already!

Siobhan was in town for the Spice Festival so she popped round to say hi. Almost immediately after greeting her I blurted out that I was pregnant, and we sat down to have a serious chat.

Feeling none the wiser when I came home from work, I decided to browse some parenting forums to see what I’d be getting myself into if I chose to keep the baby.

I occupied myself as best as I could before work, as I debated whether or not I should keep the baby. What would be worse for my career - being a working mum or having an abortion leak to the press? Should I tell Raj? Well, I mean, obviously it’s not something I could or would keep from him, but I know I’ll get no choice if Geeta were to find out. So that means if I want an abortion it would need to be a secret and very soon, but in this case that’s just an awful thing to do… Plus, I do want to be a mum. Just I didn’t necessarily want to be a mum right now.

I’ve had an in-case-of-emergency pregnancy test in my bathroom for ages, and I’d hoped I’d never have to use it. And yet there I was, sitting in my bathroom, staring at the two lines which confirmed my fear:

I’m pregnant.

We got back home in the early hours of this morning and the first thing I did was throw up. I really wanted to blame it on food poisoning, or a stomach bug, but there was a growing doubt gnawing away in the back of my mind.

Oh, Raj came exploring too today, but he let me do most of the dirty work. Yeah, he’s not quite as adventurous as me. I mean, the man brought an umbrella on a jungle exploration for crying out loud.

I ended up in some secret clearing deep in the jungle, and honestly, journal, no picture could do it justice. It was stunning. Ancient Omiscan ruins reclaimed by nature - what a sight to behold! I was even lucky enough to come across a treasure chest, and I got my hands on this beautiful. bejewelled, golden frog. What a perfect end to a perfect trip!

On today’s jungle adventure, I found an alien egg. When a predator attacked I misted it with some pepper spray, and as a result the weird egg thing… well, I don’t know what it did, but I felt some strange power coursing through me afterwards.

First, we headed over to the market to pick up some souvenirs and more supplies so we could head out into the jungle one more time.

I felt a bit sick after breakfast, I think I may have eaten something a bit dodgy, or maybe I’m just not used to Selvadoradian cuisine. Thankfully it wore off as the morning went on, so we were still able to get out and enjoy our last day in Selvadorada!
