Hi! I know most witches use altars to worship deities, but do witches ever use altars for nature (in general or a specific aspect)? For example, could I make an altar for the trees?
Absolutely! Altars are a way to connect to and honor something, what that something is is entirely up to you :)
Some ideas specific to trees:
Pictures of trees
Art/objects depicting trees
Poetry about trees/the forest
Incense or essential oil derived from trees
Pressed leaves, needles, bark, branches, dried berries, cones, etc. from trees (could be specific if you have a connection to a certain species or broad).
Art/items you created from branches, wood, etc. Examples: pine needle baskets, wooden beads, painted rounds of wood, lashing sticks together to create a design, etc.
Altars are a highly personal thing, add what feels right to you!
I might end up moving out of the state and if that happens I plan on making sachets for the different trees from my forest/area. So each one would include bits of bark, leaves/needles, cones/berries/catkins, a small bit of root and dirt from beneath it. A way to bring them with me and have their energies for magic even if Iâm in a new place. Iâd actually like to do this anyways, for the times Iâm bedridden.
I donât have an altar for trees, but I do use trees as altars.
Thereâs a certain tree in my forest that Iâll place small dead animals I find near/in the house on a low branch, and itâs always gone by the next morning. Iâve started placing bones around the base of it as well (because I find a LOT and donât need to remove all of them from nature). Itâs a place to honor life and death, and the natural process.
I also have another tree nearby that I put neat rocks and broken crystals under.
You could also plant a tree!
Just to add, that Christmas/Yule trees are essentially tree altars and you can indeed use a tree as an altar. You can take it even further and decorate any tree as an altar. If you wanted something year round and indoors, there are trees that do well as houseplants like orange trees or weeping fig. Also, though technically a succulent, jade plants resemble small trees
Yes! This inspired a few more ideas (and Iâll summarize yours as well):
Trees that do well inside such as orange trees, weeping figs, palms or money trees (Pachira aquatica)
Bonsai trees
Willow twigs will root when placed in a vessel of water
Plants that resemble trees, such as jade plant
Terrariums with tree figures or that resemble forests
Trees decorated for holidays (or throughout the year) indoors and out. You could also have a collection of branches that resemble a tree and decorate those.Â
