Amberly Changed Everything

After reading The Queen, I now appreciate Amberly more than before. I always loved her from the beginning, but now her character shines a bit brighter in everyone’s minds. When Clarkson trashed that room in Chapter 5, Amberly didn’t scream for help or run away and never wanted to trust Clarkson again. Her first impulse was to calm him down. Make him feel better. She truly was the calm to his storm.

And finally, most importantly, I’ll say something I’ve known for a long time, andThe Queen just adds onto it more.

Amberly changed everything.

Some people might give credit for changing Illéa’s rulers to Maxon and America, but I don’t think so.

Think about it, if Amberly didn’t marry Clarkson, Maxon would have became just like Clarkson. In the extra stuff after the first Selection Stories, Kiera stated in the family tree explanation that the only reason Maxon isn’t completely like his father is because of his mother’s disposition.

Gregory had ultimate control (and, am I the only one who thinks he’s pretty close to being like a dictator??) and it was passed down through his lineage. Complete control, viewing their voice and opinion as the only right one, and so on. But, like any mother-son relationship, Amberly disposition and actions had a HUGE effect and impact on Maxon. Amberly was kind. She was calming. She stood out to Clarkson in her Selection because of that, since he had never known that. Maxon adored his mother, and she effected him greatly. If Amberly wasn’t his mother, he would probably have had the same reactions to Clarkson on how that nation should be ran and by what. Yes, America opened his eyes to see the world he never did, and inspired him to change Illéa, but if Amberly didn’t teach him be open to other’s views and considerate, do you think he would have listened?

If Amberly never existed as queen, as Maxon’s mother, nothing would be the same. Maxon would not have been as loved by us if he wasn’t uncommonly kind and considerate and understanding.

Long story short: Amberly broke the pattern. She changed Illéa’s rulers. I can’t really explain it well, but if Amberly didn’t come in and change everything, Maxon would most likely be going in the steps of his father, probably not as harsh as Clarkson was, but be a ruling king like him.

Amberly is on my top three favorite characters of this series that is not any of the Selected, Maxon, Aspen, or America. In this fictional world that I am completely obsessed with, I know she changed everything.

I do hope Kiera reads this and tells Amberly. And I know, if she hears this, she’ll blush away and say she doesn’t deserve this praise.

But Amberly, you do. You truly do.
