In the garden, Victor was holding a tiny bundle of something in one arm. It smelled like baby products, it cooed like an infant, and it even reached out with one tiny, chubby brown arm. Yep, he did, indeed, have a newborn in his possession for whatever reason.

"Quick question," he called up to the ratsender's nest on top of his building, "what would you name a little human boy?"

Pokes her head out from the nest, leaning over the side

Oh I don’t really interact with them that small. I try to wait until they have personalities before I decide if I wanna eat them or not. Don’t name it Kyle, I’ve never had a Kyle that tastes good

Victor narrowed his eyes behind his visor.

"No one is going to eat him. I very nearly broke Zeno's wrist for daring to lay a hand upon him..."

He gave it some more thought. No, Kyle was not a name befitting any child, in his opinion. It was the name of a juvenile delinquent, or somebody who was destined to work in a Domino's the rest of their life.

Hmmm. Well I named Zeno Junior after Zeno because they look the same. Maybe name this little human after whoever it looks like?

His sluggish mind and motions betrayed Victor. He was far too late to grab the cup from his owl-creature friend.

"Wonderful... People are going to think that it was a murder-suicide, now. Well, let us hope that it wasn't antifreeze, though what that would be doing in a refrigerator is beyond me."

Licks the cup

What is antifreeze? Eh never mind. That was refreshing. What are you drinking?

"That sounds vile..." Honestly, it didn't sound much worse than the swill he was drinking right now.

"As long as it didn't come from a car engine and it isn't sweet, I suppose I shouldn't worry."

He rested his face on the cool surface of the granite counter, waiting to pass out or go blind.

The good doctor was sipping a "mystery liquid" of his own--denatured alcohol, the only substance on the planet that could well and truly fuck him up anymore. He needed it after that disaster that had been his flower delivery.

To say that Grace was surprised when she opened the door would be the understatement of the century. Dr Gideon showing up at her apartment? Unfortunately not too far out of the realm of possibility, given his habit of kidnapping people. Dr Gideon showing up at her apartment with flowers and without his stupid little helmet-thingy-whateverthefuck? Yeah, that's weird. She feels like the fairy vs walrus poll, and he's the walrus. "W-wh-what are you doing h-here?" She asks, immediately cringing at herself for how she sounds. She could've just shut the door in his face- why didn't she shut the door in his face? Why isn't she shutting the door in his face? Are her arms working? Is she having a stroke? About to pass out? Hello, brain to body, please respond.

Victor was having a miniature meltdown of his own, meanwhile. He was utterly exposed, and suddenly felt extremely foolish for coming here when he knew that Grace would be home.

His legs felt weak, almost alien to him, as he unsteadily lurched forward--slowly, so as not to startle the poor dear--and laid the flowers at her feet as if she was some kind of idol. He realized that he was staring, and he wondered how pathetic his expression must have been. He probably looked like a kicked dog... Averting his eyes, he backed away, reaching out to one side and casting about for @theratsender.

"We..." he swallowed thickly. "We should go..."

Hi Grace! The Doctor got you flowers! Apparently the different colors mean things! Also I learned about colors today!

Hops onto the doctor’s shoulder

Pulls a rat out of her feathers and gently hands it to the shopkeeper Color…? Oh is that when some things look different? Points at blue forget me nots Like the way those look strange. Is that a color?

Victor ignores the screams of the two florists as they find themselves unexpectedly face to face with a rat, and he walks towards the exit.

"Yes, that color is blue. Are you able to distinguish colors at all?"

Puff up her feathers proudly hearing what are no doubt screams of joy and walk along with Victor

I don’t think so? Some things look a little weird, I guess this “blue” stuff. But mostly everything is kinda the same looking. Not very interesting. Smells are way better

Follow up question Walks over slowly so she doesn’t slip on the smooth floor, smiling at the workers in a way that probably does nothing to soothe them What is purple? I’ve heard it mentioned before but I don’t actually know what it is. Is that also a type of flower?

"No, it's a color--one that I assume you're incapable of seeing."

The florists quickly delivered a bouquet to him from over the counter, the older woman eyeing the owl-creature with a growing sense of dread.

"Do you see this flower?" Victor pointed to the violet hyacinth. "This one is purple." He then turned and payed for the bouquet, ignoring the florists' discomfort.

"Remember the term 'floriography?' The one that you dismissed as made-up?" He ignored the young clerk as he dashed into the back of the store to consult with his manager, the both of them visibly staring at the talking owl-creature and the seven-foot-tall reptilian menace.

"Floriography is also known as the language of flowers, you see. Each flower expresses what can't always be put into words. Oh--" he raised his voice slightly, addressing the two hapless florists. "I'd prefer purple hyacinths, if you have them," he snarled.

Soon, they arrived at the florist's. Victor unfolded himself from inside the driver's side of the car and emerged, grumbling about how he wished that he'd taken his motorcycle instead.

Once the winged creature was back on his shoulder, he entered the florist's. The bell above the door chimed, and the clerk looked up, and immediately his face went pale at the sight of them.

"I don't have time for your lack of nerves, boy," Victor growled as he approached the counter. "I require a bouquet of white roses and blue hyacinths."

Victor rolled his eyes. Without his visor on, anyone could see it, though he didn't seem to realize that he wasn't wearing it quite yet.

"Most things are 'made up,' if you want to be a reductionist. Anyway, suit yourself. I'll meet you there..."

He climbed into the driver's seat and started the engine.

Victor gave her a deadpan look as they descended the staircase. "I'm not bringing her some wretched weeds, you--" He inhaled sharply, composing himself.

"What I require do not grow in the wild. Are you familiar at all with floriography?"

He took her down into the subterranean garage, where his car awaited him. He opened the passenger door and attempted to deposit the ratsender into the passenger seat.

Victor offered the creature his arm, allowing her to climb up onto his shoulder.

"We're going to find a flower shop, and I very much doubt that you could carry someone of my height and weight without straining yourself. Besides, the matter will require some finesse and subtlety."

Preens her feathers while thinking I don’t think I can help with Chloe, but if Zeno is giving you issues I could always fly him over to my nest while you spend some time with Grace. And I can just eat anyone else that gives you problems

"No, no one can help where Chloe is concerned..." He looked away, not bothering to hide the remorse in his voice. Victor sighed deeply, and he fell into a spell of silence as he thought. Then, he lifted his head once more and looked at her.

"Will you come with me while I run an errand?"
