With everything Hip-Hop in Kissimmee Fl, its pretty hard to keep tabs on every single artist. We had the opportunity to talk it up and chat with the eagerly ambitious artist CJ Stylez. From building his own studio to posting a freestyle everyday on his growing soundcloud page and dropping mixtapes like they’re going out of style and even making his own covers this young man, has been called a “young jay z” already and we are truly impressed. Lets see what the Dead Presidents artist had to say.
Q: Its about time you sat down and chopped it up with us.
A: Yeah, life has been kinda crazy ya'know? But I’m back on track and starting to make music again. Its a slow process but my manager has been on my ass lately so I’m getting shit done.
Q: I know, it seems like your Soundcloud has been hacked all your music has been deleted what happened?
A: [Laughs] Nah, it was a conscious decision made from my manager and I. We decided to make compilation mixtapes and post them on datpiff so people wont forget them. I have new music coming so we wanted to start fresh .
Q: Speaking about Soundcloud I see that ‘Til I Met Selena Remix’ has gotten pretty popular I bet you’re pretty proud of that?
A: Hell yeah 100 downloads thats crazy! I really didn’t expect for it to go that far, but people really like it. I love the original song from King Louie, shit I love the whole Tony Mixtape I know like every word.
Q: Okay lets talk music, when did you first become interested in making music?
A: Damn, thats a tough question to answer, I didn’t really start recording music until like 10th grade with a homie of mine. He had built his own studio and it really inspired me like “Yo anybody can do this shit” but I started free styling and shit at age 7. Nobody knew I could spit until the end of middle school going to High School
Q: That Homie is the one in the music video on youtube right?
A: Yeah thats my dude right there Rob Racks. A really ambitious dude when it came to music.
Q: So if you’ve been free styling since 7 that means you’ve been rapping for how long?
A: Jeez I’m 20 now so 13 years.
Q: Dang what are your musical influences?
A: Wow, thats a tougher question to answer I listen to a handful of music so naming them all would be impossible I even take in bad music and try to add it to my craft. I can tell you who I’m listening to now. I’ve been jamming Jay’s “Reasonable Doubt” and Ab-Soul “These Days” like crazy.
Q: What else do you do besides make music?
A: If I’m not being a Father to my two boy’s? I’m probably watching Netflix with the wife, or watching Gamesack videos. I just got back into playing sega genesis games again. Right now I’m trying to beat Castle of Illusion, and revenge of shiniobi.
Q: You’re A GameSack fan?
A: Major I love Joe and Dave and their opinions on games I’m a nerd when it comes to shit like that.
Q: Word on the street you got a new mixtape coming out?
A: Yeah everything is on hush right now but 2 of my homies producing the Tape shout-out to BeatMaker Nutty and RayAyy.
Q: Thats the only ones producing the tape?
A: Ahhh I already said too much [Chuckles].
Q: I see you don’t do a lot of photo’s why is that?
A: Same reason I don’t do a lot of interviews, not enough people to work with, my homie from middle school just started her own imaging company called Wanderlust Image Big Ups to Steph I hope I can work with her in the future her photo’s are really dope.
Q: You mentioned your Manager earlier. How instrumental is she towards your work?
A: Very. Without her I wouldn’t get shit done. I’m really lazy as fuck, she keeps me focused, if it wasn’t for her I probably would play the genesis all day [laughs]. I love her even though we bump heads.
Q: Okay last question, when is the Mixtape coming out?
A: A date was set for october 7th, but we decided to go another route so no date is set. Part 2 of the “Soundcloud Freestylez” is being released tomorrow (Sept 30th) on datpiff. After that people just gotta wait and see.
Q: Okay man well take care and we’ll see you another time hopefully we can chew the fat a little more?
A: Yeah, and maybe play some Genesis n shit [Laughs]
