There was an episode, one of my favorite moments in Star Trek, when Captain Kirk looks over the cosmos and says, ‘Somewhere out there someone is saying the three most beautiful words in any language.’ Of course your heart sinks and you think it’s going to be, ‘I love you’ or whatever. He says, ‘Please help me.’ What a philosophically fantastic idea, that vulnerability and need is a beautiful thing.

Husband’s friends are like: Oh yeah I’m working 55 hours this week but I’ll grab some pizza and we can hang out for like an hour and a half before I go to bed. You’re working on a roof? I’ll come help you for a little so we can hang out. Oh yeah I have an errand to run at the bookstore, come with me so we can be together. Hey dude, let’s just hang out and have a meal.

Most of my friends: [typing furiously] hmmmm..... [more typing] well...... [type type type].. We’re all booked up through October. You should have made a reservation sooner.

Me: Isn’t there any time at all?

Them: Well, there’s not really any time in my schedule at all. But I suppose I have a small opening next Tuesday at 3. Coffee for 28 minutes?
